Default Got my first SVT Today! 1941 Tula Refurb

Hey guys, Little white truck brought me a present today! My first SVT-40, its a 1941 Tula, in an AVT-40 stock. Stock has been sanded and stripped by a previous owner, so I will refinish it using a Minwax stain. Mostly matching, bolt and dust cover are electro pencilled, and the stock and trigger housing are both stamped, and matching. Magazine is a mismatch, to be expected. Bore is really nice still, and has a nice shine to it. Discreet 1990's import mark which is also nice. I was able to get this from a friend of mine for a really good price. will need a new takedown screw bushing in the stock, as mine sheared off during disassembly of the rifle, but found a new one on Numrich which is nice. What do you guys think of my new SVT? Was able to snag this beauty for $900 shipped. I'm pretty happy with it! Right to my door, ah the perks of an FFL03 and COE!

Great score for $900!!!! You'll enjoy shooting it for sure, they're loud, fun and attract a lot of attention. Get yourself a gas tool.

They multiply. I bought my first SVT then my second shortly after. Enjoy it

Thanks! Took all the metal bits out of the stock to refinish, and my friend ended up snapping my takedown lug holder. Here's hoping the one I ordered from numrich isn't a pain to install!

Very nice looking rifle. I too got my first SVT40 yesterday, a '41 Tula. Looks close to yours except mine has the narrow TG, and the sling is attached at the butt with a dog collar. Mag doesn't match, but the original finished stock, receiver and TG do, everything else is forced. The bore on mine is dark, but after a few quick hasty reams with the brush and Butches, looks like it'll be OK. I too am over joyed. PAX

Agreed. Should look better after a coat or two of minwax. Found a nice Mahogany Red that should look nice on it!

Very nice, congrats! Someone posted recently about a guy who sells USSR red stain on another forum. You might check that out and see if it's what you're looking for.

Edit: found the post

Thanks Trap! I think this one will look much nicer, with the stock redone and not so light.
