Reloading Components in Santa Clara area?
I am new to reloading and would like to know what local alternatives there are to Midway for components (looking to avoid the $25 hazmat fee as I am experimenting with sm. quantities of various. powders).
I know Reeds Indoor Range has some selection, but they don't have the powders I was looking for, so what are the alternatives?

I'm not in your area, but if you do decide to order online don't order from midway. They will actually charge you two hazmats fees for primers and powder, when other sites only charge one.
If you can't find anywhere local I'd just place an online order. Just get 10k primers and a couple different types of popular powder like Unique, etc. What are you loading for? |

Hey Chris, Thanks for the tip on Midway's double haz-mat fees.
Powder is where I am having trouble: specifically wanted to try TiteGroup and Unique. I'm also interested in trying Power Pistol and W231, but the one local shop I know of (and one I visited in Sacramento area over the weekend) seem to be having trouble getting any of these.

Irvington Arms?
Irvington Arms had a nice selection of powders last time I was there (Summer, 2010).

Check out the Bay Area Gun Vault in mountain view. They have a neon reloading sign in the window, figured I couldn't go wrong. They told me I was premature, the sign came up before the product came in. They are supposedly picking up whole lines of reloading gear and consumables, and are supposed to be up and ready for the new year. If not by now, then surely (one would think, as a business plan) they will be up and running for Feb 1st.
But call them. They'll either have stock, or tell you when it is coming. |

I saw reloading materials at Kerley's in Cupertino recently. I don't reload so I can't comment about the scope of their selection, etc., but it might be worth giving them a call.

Sportsmen's Supply in Campbell usually has a decent powder selection.
Imbert and Smithers in San Carlos does too - but call first. www.powdervalleyinc.com is hard to beat in most cases.

Bullseye in Castro Valley has powders. Irvington Arms has Bear Creek moly and Montana Gold jacketed bullets. For a little more money, GetBulletsandBrass has PRI moly bullets that you can arrange to pick up in Gilroy.
If you mail order, or happen to be close to Waterford, Bear Creek has moly bullets. |

I started reloading too about 4000 rounds ago. It is slim pickins in the Bay. I have used Sportsman Supply. Irvingtion is ok, but they sort of randomly select powders. What i did was stop by Sportsman Warehouse in Rocklin when i make trips thru that area. They usually have all types of powders and primers, and some plated bullets as well. I just found Discount shooters in Roseville, but have not been in there yet. If you are just starting out then you can get small quantities. Just call to make sure what they have in stock. After the setup and first 200 rounds you'll need to order online. The best places for that would be: www.powdervalleyinc.com www.natchezss.com www.montanagoldbullet.com Good luck! Shoot me a pm if you have more questions! Maybe we can put a order in together and save the hazmat fee. I reload 9, 40, 45, and starting 223. I will be needing to make an order for 40 in a month or two. art Last edited by Artsville; 01-04-2011 at 7:19 AM.. |

+1 on Artsville post above.
Graf and Sons occasionally has a no haz mat fee for certain order levels, etc. I just watch for the specials.

I have HP-38 which is the same as W231 and I also have Titegroup. I can bring them with me on Thursday when I go to Santa Clara and let you pour out some powder to test out. Send me a PM if you'd like to try them out

Thanks for all the info everyone.
I'm placing an order with Powder Valley for an assortment of stuff. Perhaps I'll try to get in on some group buys in the future. That seems like a good idea. Quote:
That's a very generous offer, but I think I am set for now. I really do appreciate the offer though.
