Smile Think I have decided on what to start with!

I'm going to be loading 115g 9mm to start out with. I've narrowed down the powder to either Titegroup or 231. Any suggestions? Primers i'm going to start with CCI and for the bullets i'm going to get them from Berrysfmg.com

Good components to start with?

I would start with a better quality bullet, like Zero. They are actually cheaper than Berrys.

Buy the Berry's bullets from powdervalleyinc.com. The same box of 1000 is $20 cheaper.
This is the best site for components.

Either powder is fine for jacketed or plated bullets, but if you ever switch over to cast lead bullets I would use the Win 231. I have found that Titegroup is very smoky with lead bullets because it burns the wax lubricant.

WW231 is the best choice IMHO, BUT other powders will work well too. WW231 is probably the easiest to find and will also most likely be the cheapest too. It works well for many, many different pistol calibers. I highly recommend it as a good starting powder, lots of folks never go any further

Sounds like a good place to start. +1 on PVI for a better price on the bullets.

Berry's are fine. People slam them, but just like anything else it's probably more user error than the product's fault. I have used Titegroup and I have a buddy that likes 231. Also, Unique is a good option too, just in case you cant find the TG or 231.

I am not sure about tightgroup but as far as 9mm goes there may be better choices 'Slower burn rates. just because 9MM is a high pressure load and the slower powders are more forgiving when working up a load . Just my opinion on 9MM. Not that 231 is bad!

Is this for a Glock? or can you use lead bullets which could be quite a bit cheaper if that matters. I have been buying from Missouri bullets they have a web site and so far have been very good.

I was using plated bullets until the cost of 1K went though the roof a few years ago.
Now I use hard cast lead bullets from www.bulletworks.com

I really like Berry's plated bullets and CCI primers.

Titegroup is garbage IMO, yes I said it.

W231 is a better choice for a newbie. Once you get comfortable with reloading try WST. It's a lot like 231, but cleaner, easier to find, and more accurate.

I'm using WST in 38spl, 45, and 9mm with great results.

They are not fine for noobs. They need the gentle touch of someone who knows what he's doing. A standard jacketed bullet is better to start with. Zeros cost $80/K delivered.

Yes! You won't be disappointed. Its only down side is there isn't a lot of published 9mm data.

Currently, I am loading Berry's 115 DSRN plated. I like the bullets, been sorting with weight and size and they are remarkably uniform so far (about 500 down the pipe out of my first 1K).

I shot some Accurate #7 and VV-3N37 today. The Accurate load was waaaay to light, should have used the Accurate load data for lead, about a grain bigger than what I loaded. Had lots of cycling problems, even with the benchmark USP.

I tried the plated as I shoot a lot out of my H&K's and they don't like lead.

I have started using a Lee Auto Disk powder dispenser with the belling die. The Accurate #7 sucks with this device. The powder leaks out between the dish and the container holding the powder and jams its smooth operation. The VV-3N37 meters like a dream with the Lee Auto Disk. Figures, one of the most expensive powders works good in my dispenser.

I also REALLY liked the groups I was getting with the VV, seemed to be the best I have had in 9 for a really long time. The accuracy of the #7 seemed pretty average, but I will try again when I get the load closer to where it belongs.

On the observation of the Berry's plated being really soft, I would have to agree.

Can you provide a link to the Zeros?

[Edit] Just realized they're at PVI - This may answer my other question below...do the prices listed at PVI include shipping then?

Thanks

That PVI price is without shipping though right? Roughly, what do they charge for shipping the Berrys? Direct from MFG is ~$80 shipped...

Thanks

I use Berrys and Unique. I load mid level power for plinking and practice. Win231 is a good start and a good powder. I mainly use Unique since I like my load with more velocity but still keep a couple of pounds of Win231.
