Should have bought a Dillon
I am new to reloading and heard a lot of good things about Dillon and RCBS so I figured CS would be a toss up between the two. I spent some time checking out both the pro2000 and the 550b. I decide on the pro2000 and buy it off the net.
I get it mounted go through the assembly and get to the powder measure and find the measuring cylinder is so tight in the powder measure casting it wont turn. I thought I will call RCBS and get this squared away post haste...... not even close RCBS CS was nice, knowledgeable and said they were sending a new measure body with the hopper. After waiting a week and no replacement I call and they tell me it has not even shipped yet. WTF!!!!! if I did not like the the setup I would return it now. I can't imagine how long it would take if I needed a part that is pro 2000 specific. Should have bought a Dillon, newbie mistake I will not make again. |

Lee vs Dillon is like Glock vs 1911. Nobody is right, what works for you is the right choice.

RCBS CS has always been top notch for me. I had a problem with my 20+ year old Piggyback progressive conversion and broke a major part. When I emailed RCBS they replied within a couple of days and said to send them part numbers and they would send them to me. Over the past 20 years I had broken, lost or wore out other parts on the loader so I asked if they could replace the parts and I would pay for them. RCBS said just send them the list and they would get back to me with a price. Two days later I received a unexpected package from RCBS with all the parts (atleast 20 small and large parts). I called them to see what I owed and they said it was on the house. I have since had to contact RCBS CS several times over the past few years, not because of poor quality but because my loader had about outlived it usefulness. I finally broke down and bought a Dillon and I couldn't be happier. It's a whole different beast but in a good way.
But you are right, you should have bought the Dillon. As much as I like my RCBS I like my Dillon 650 more. If you still can I would return the 2000 and buy a Dillon 550 or 650 which are superior. Last edited by Mac Attack; 11-22-2010 at 6:31 PM.. |

The last time I contact RCBS CS was in September when I needed to replace my tumbler under warranty. Actually I purchased my tumbler several years back and they said the warranty was only valid for 1 year from the date of purchase. But since I was upfront with when I purchased it and I have been a loyal customer they replaced it. Unfortunately the one I had was no longer being made (it was the extra large Mega tumbler). They said they would give me credit for the MSRP on the tumbler and I could upgrade to their high end tumbler or buy the one which replaced my model and they would give me a $30 credit. I would have liked to upgrade to the ultra tumbler but it would have been $200 more so I went with the standard version and used the $30 credit to get the swagger kit.
All in all, I like my RCBS equipment and still use my Rockchucker without the Piggyback II. I do however like how modern and reliable my Dillon is. |

Wow, RCBS customer service has always been good to me. I've called them a few times and they've always sent me parts for free, even though i've offered to pay and that the broken stuff was clearly my fault.
Maybe ya got a fluke of an experience... If you're goin progressive, Dillon is probably the best way to go though....

I have to decide between Camdex, Mark X, or a butt load of Dillons in the near future. If money was no object, which would you pick?

well camdex has a good rep for helping you out if you have a problem. tech support is pretty good! some parts if they break can be made on a mill, so if you are a little bit of a machinist, you should do well. camdex, from the factory comes with everythig you need to load.
a ammo load (dont have much experience with them) is th cheaper of the two. they (from what i understand) will nickel and dime you for any extra peices to make the machine run. i dont know the tech support...i havent called. both machines WILL drop powder if no case is present, so it can make a mess. the ammo load does not have the cycle time like the camdex. the ammo load has stations for 3 powder drops (rifle) which makes the ammo very, very precise. camdex does not. a camdex has an automated primer flipper (feeds automatic) the ammo load runs froma tube like a dillion. all in all they are both great machines. each is great in its own area. camdex for pistol, ammoload for rifle. thats what i would do.... as for the dillions, I LOVE THEM!!! only problem is that they dont run well automated. even with a possness ( i have 5 of them) they jam up. they run well with new brass but not used.... i would use dillions for small runs (1-10k max at a time before cleaning)... with unlimited funds....get all 3 and a CASE PROCESSOR from Sharch. Well think of it this way, once your replacement part shows up, you'll be cranking out cartridges on your RCBA and be happy. Then at some point you'll forget about this CS hiccup and not look back. So I don't think you should have bought a Dillon just for that. If that press ends up being a headache to use, THEN you should have bought an XXX press ... but give it a chance!

When I bought my first Dillon is was largely due to the input here plus the expert tutelage of Randall.

I can say that I have never bought a dillon press.... My wife bought me my 650.. she saw how long it took to make a few hundred rounds on my old Rock Chucker (which I still own to this day) and said that if she was going to marry me, she wanted to actually SEE me some time.. I am still happily married (some 13+ years later) to that smart lady

Buy a Hornady. Best customer service. I broke a retaining spring that holds the cases in the turret until the last stage. I call them the next day. And they say no problem. Where do you want it shipped. And no charge. I ask if at late at nite I break the new one, could I order a second. And how much. He told me he had already included a second one. Dillon look out. Hornady is not far behind.

RCB CS usually over reacts in my own experainces. Tell them you have a die issue and the ups guy is knocking at the door with a new die.. I broke a pin on some berden primers, I called to order new pins as I didn't know what size, and they sent me the whole decapper part with 20 pins....
I don't see how you can go wrong with them, Hornandy, or Dillon. Disclaimer....I own 3 - 550b's.

Take the cyclinder out. Rub it with some fine steel wool to remove the micro bits of rust (or major) and then give it a bit of CLP lube on the outer part of it where it rubs, then wipe it as dry as you can with a paper towel. Let it sit a while to dry further, then re-install.
Did this for my RCBS powder measure's large cyclinder (had only been reloading pistol for a bit) because it didn't want to drop in. After the brush down it went in smooth and operates flawlessly. You'll get the cyclinder replacement from RCBS, and you'll eventually forget about everything except the fact that you didn't have to pay for it. I've had no problems getting them to replace broken bits before, but then i haven't broken much so my experience is limited.

Always nice to hear from other about how RCBS, Dillon, or Lee has great CS.
I've only had to deal with RCBS 3 times. The first time, I sent them my RockChucker to be overhauled and they replaced my broken priming arm (which I don't use anyway) along with the overhaul and sent it back to me in about 3 weeks, no charge (didn't feel any different than before I sent it to them, tho). The other 2 times were for a broken primer cup and once for a broken decapping pin and rod. Both times I asked them how much they would charge and both times I was told to buy it from Midway cuz it would be cheaper than they would sell it to me for. Had a similar experience with Lee and their Auto-Disk powder measure Double Disk kit. Needed the screws(misplaced), spacer(scratched), and new powder hopper(cracked). I was promptly sent the order numbers and price to purchase the parts from them online. The motor was making noise on my Dillon CV-2000 case cleaner. Dillon said warranty was for 1 year after purchase and the motor was no longer available. They did give me a $30 credit towards the purchase of a new CV-2001 vibrator, however. Haven't broken or had any problems with my Hornady Pro-7 loader, dies, or their scale, so I can't say anything about their CS. Guess I just don't have the luck of others when it comes to Customer Service. Then again with +20 years in reloading, I can't expect too much. |

My 2-RL1050's, XL650 and the old man's 550 have all been running. Heck...my 1050 in 38 Super has reloaded well over 200k. No issues although I probably should clean it as it's been 6 years since doing so.
