Probably the best quality/lowish priced (+/- $100) scopes out there.

My Simmons 22MAG scope works. My UTG 5th Gen scope works. My Bushnell Rimfire scope works. All were between $40 and $80. The UTG is currently on my XT-22R.
If I went to the $100-$200 range, I'd be looking at some of these: Mueller Optics 4.5-14x40 AO - $130 Nikon Prostaff Rimfire 3-9x40 - $170 Vortex Crossfire II 6-18x44 AO - $210 Vortex Diamondback Rimfire 2-7x35 - $179

I have a Nikon Rimfire BDC & it's been great. I do like it, but I'd recommend you look at both the Mueller & Nikon. My scope was about 140 otd & I got a deal, Turners lists them for 179+ Muellers are well liked, my next build will likely have a Mueller 4x16x40.

I was wondering what price range you were in. Weaver makes some good choices like the 2-7 power. I like my Redfield Revolution 2-7. I also have several of the Simmons 22 MAG 3-9's that work good. BSA makes a reasonable 4-14 power. So a little of this depends on your budget. I know guys who wouldn't want anything less than Leupold, but they know quality and want every rifle to be dependable. After all, you can plink all you want, but if you need to defend yourself or you need to feed your family, then why would you risk inexpensive optics that might break? In a dire situation if you have a scope mounted and it does not zero or otherwise breaks etc, then you have a useless rifle.

If you are shooting within 75 yards, I really like my Simmons 22 MAG Scope. It is rimfire specific, so you don't need AO when shooting your typical .22LR distances. Simmons 22 MAG 3-9x32mm - $50

Before you decide take a look at the Mueller Scope line. Pretty good reviews and a even better price range.
I just ordered this one, some people say it's over kill for a rimfire but I never listen to "some people". I chose this one becauuse of the 50mm objective lens, it will definately allow more light. I need the light for my old eyes more then I need to magnification. http://www.amazon.com/Mueller-Sport-...=mueller+scope

Mueller is a nice scope for the money. I have http://www.amazon.com/Mueller-Rifle-...ef=pd_sbs_sg_1 on my 10/22. Clear glass and lifetime warranty.

OP,
There has been some great advice and some not so great advice and the first thing to do is stop and figure out what you're going to use it for. If you're just going to use it for hunting and plinking then in my opinion speed on target trumps fine accuracy and I'd go with a fixed focus scope like a Weaver RV4 4x28 rimfire (~$125), RV7 2.5-7x28 rimfire (~$140), Nikon Prostaff 3-9x40 rimfire with BDC (~$150) or a Sightron S3 3-9x32 rimfire (~$120). Not all rimfire scopes are created equal and these are all good solid scopes with very good optics for rimfire scopes. If the goal is target shooting then an adjustable objective is a must and the cheapest solution that I can recommend is a Mueller APC 4.5-14x40 w/AO (~$130). It's not in the same league and a Weaver V16 or V24 but it's $100 or more cheaper. Not all scope are made equal and quality counts so buy the best quality scope that you can afford.

Go with the Simmons 22 MAG then, IMO. Good little scope for $50. My 8 y/o daughter can hit the small 2-3" steel rimfire targets 50 yards out every shot with it at Sac Valley. Can't be that bad...
