Could you describe a little more as to the symptoms? Won't reset? Does the charging handle "cock" or set the hammer?

What's the history on the gun? Is it being offered by a shop or a friend? If there's no resistance when the handle is pulled back then it may be "missin'" parts. Like the bolt. Here's a Peek

They are simple and parts are easy to get. Best case, needs cleaned and oiled. Worst case needs some small parts. What price? Might be the deciding factor.

70? Take it, should be easy to find parts and fix it.
Hell even if you replace the whole trigger group with an aftermarket one to get it to work you'd still have a 10/22 cheaper then retail.

Default Take It

Buy the rifle and clean it , I had one that I did not clean the trigger to well , We got to the range ,It was 35 degrees , The oil on my action got stiff and the gun wought not fire. You can also take the whole housing to a smith and have a action job on it.

Probably just dirty, gritty and clogged up with dried up gunk from sitting in a closet for years. Well worth buying. Strip it, clean it and it will fire!

It's probably just gummed up, maybe the disconnector spring is weak or gunky. A cheap fix. Unless she's a friend and pretty much knowingly "giving it away" to you as a nice deal I'd pay her $125.00.

If you are in CA you do know that technically to buy this you both need to go to an FFL to do the transfer right? You'll pay a fee and have to wait 10 days to pick it up .

Ok its your life, but the law makes no exemption for it being "just a 22".

Her selling you this gun without an FFL is a misdemeanor offense.

Do what you want but I would not openly post about breaking the law.

You should go about it legally. A $70 gun is not worth a misdemeanor offense. You are free to do as you wish, but please inform the widow as she could get in trouble as well. It's the least you could do since she gave you a killer deal.

3 day wait? What happened to the other 7 days ?

With an extraction issue I would start with a new VQ extractor.

When someone States there is no need for a legal transfer. Then says the whent to an FFL and then talks about shooting and cleaning it three days later it sends up a few red flags

But it seems like you did the right thing, congrats on the new Ruger. Can't help you with magazines, haven't had to buy any in many years.
