I'm curious: how does one get a steady grip on the foreend with such a tiny lower hand guard and no way to wrap the thumb over the top without burning one's hand on the gas tube?

BTW, to those who want one of these, AK Builder has a slightly longer 9" version in kit form with populated barrel that can accept a full-length lower hand guard. 5 left as of this posting at $545 each. That price may have been why the OP couldn't sell...

BTW, I was referred to American Gunsmithing in La Habra/Brea/vicinity for parkerizing by Raddlock. You might try them as a last, last, last resort, if you can't find anyone near Santa Clarita...
