Default 9mm carbines....what's available to us in Ca?

I've got a hankering for a 9mm carbine, wondering what might be readily available to us. (i'm in San Diego). would prefer to keep pricing lower than the 1k generally quoted for the AR's. thanks

I LOVE my Uzi. It's a classic, simple, rugged, a blast to shoot, accurate. The only downside is weight, it is a beast, about 9.5 lbs. But that weight makes it really great for beginners, kids and ladies to shoot, basically no recoil, super easy to control.

You can get one for around $700.00 to $800.00, parts and accessories are all over the place.

My absolute favorite as well, but under 1K will not get you into an HK (even a clone) Hell the mags alone for my HK Mp5-40 run $85.00 per.

Of the factory built ones, pretty much anything except those listed on the Roberti-Roos list, including the Calico M-900, Colt AR-15, Colt Sporter, HK 94, J&R ENG M-68, RPB Industries Inc. or SWD sM10 or sM11, Sterling MK-6, Weaver Arms Nighthawk and IMI Uzi. Also, Olympic may have a 9mm carbine on the Kesler list.

Peter is a good guy, I bought my Uzi from him. Great kitchen table FFL with excellent customer service. He is in the Bay area but just find a local dealer to accept the transfer.

Beretta will be hard to find because not too many places import them. There is a bullet button out there or you can go featureless.

You can build a 9mm AR if you would like. You can use magblocks to take colt, Uzi or sten mags or you can buy a dedicated lower that takes colt or uzi mags. DDLES also make a lower that takes Glock mags.

I would check with your LGS to see if any of them carry hipoint. It will probably be your cheapest option, but it will also be your roughest around the edges.

If on a budget the hi point is ugly and weird but reliable and accurate

If you want featureless hunt for a use marlin camp or ruger pc9

Lone wolf and just right make AR style as does thureon defense among others.

Build your own. DD glock lower. Homemade upper. I gotta either wait for the raddlock for this lower or slap on a kydex grip

I'm extremely interested in the same weapon, esp. since I'm all 9mm in my pistol setup. I'm confused, though; does the Thureon have to be bastardized in some way to be Calif. legal? Does it have to have a bullet button, or is it featureless enough to avoid that fate?

Please let us know how it shoots and post a picture or two! Thanks.

Try Parallax tactical. They had a CX-4 on the wall a few weeks ago.

Kel Tec Sub2000 In Glock 9mm.
Add bullet buttons and your choice of extensions to gain the required 30 inches over all length, either butt stock or muzzle brake. You will not be disappointed. These are an absolute blast at the range. Especially shooting steel.

TNW just released a new carbine that takes Glock mags. you can change calibers too. It comes in 40cal 45cal and 9mm. It also breaks down for hiking.

I called the distributor today and they do not offer a California version and doubt they will. Too bad considering the decent price of $575 for a 9mm.

I went with a 9mm upper and magwell adapter:

I have a Thureon 9mm carbine and it has been fantastic. Mine has a factory installed bullet button as it is not featureless. Highly recommended! I use my G26 mags in state, and G18 mags out of state

Some of these 9mm carbines are aesthetically ugly. I hope it makes the antis cringe.

Thanks, jdogg: is that bullet button removable by the user when out of state? Also, what gizmo do you prefer to release an empty mag when using the bullet button?

Uzi will run you about 1k when all is said and done. AR in 9 will run you a tad more. I personally would get a Keltec sub2k for a cheap 9mm carbine. I can then use my glock mags that I already have saving more money. And it freaking folds!!!

It has a pistol grip and a detachable magazine, so yes, absent a bullet button or grip wrap it is a CA AW.

Another vote for a sub2k. Love those things. Still looking to get one.

From the factory they are not CA legal, they do not meet the 30" OAL specification and as they come with a detachable magazine and pistol grip they are "assault weapons"

To make them legal you need either the 1" buttplate extension or a 1"+ muzzle device (to increase OAL from 29" to 30") and either a bullet button(not sure if any are available) or something like the solar tactical grip wrap to make it featureless (assuming you didn't throw on a flash hider).
