I don’t have any pics at the moment, but I used a commercial Hogue buttstock on mine that slide right on with no filing/special fitting, then used a Strike Industries stock lock for fixing the stock. Also put a Hogue rubber grip w/ beavertail and it fits perfect with no gaps(also used existing grip screw). I went all FDE for the color.

On a side note, has anyone found any M-lok handguard heatshields that don’t interfere with the piston gas system? Neither magpul type 1 or 2 really work, and that thing gets hot!

Default Rock Island VR80

Thinking about a Rock Island VR80, depending on where you got it and where they got it from, either the Juggernaut or Hogue fixed mag kits are installed.
Any others ??
So who has what and where did you get it ???

It seems like the cali legal vr80 has the full rail, whereas the regular vr80 available in free states has it separated into two, which is the slimmed down portion you were talking about. Haven't seen anything explaining why that is though

I like mine, but it really needed some breaking in. It wouldn't cycle any birdshot or 2 3/4 buckshot loads at first even with the light load piston. So I ran a few mags worth of 3" turkey and duck loads I had left over, and now it's doing better, though my shoulder didn't appreciate it too much lol. My only issue is like the poster above, I was burning my hand after just a few mags, the handguard is too close to the piston. I know slim is in but it wasn't well planned out IMO. You can feel gas hit your hand and all the mlok slots actually let you touch the gas system. I'm searching for super low-pro mlok covers now but haven't found anything yet.

Yeah I have to wear gloves to shoot the thing or I get burned. If you find any mlok covers that work let us know.

Note to self if I get one-wear gloves.

Will be watching this thread for rail cover options.

Please let us know if yours still gives reliability problems after broken in or starts running 100%.

I havenít had time to read it all yet(itís 45 pages on my phone!)but I think I found the mother of all VR 80 threads.

Tons of info on accessories like brakes, modifying nine round magazines to 10 round, different mag options ,etc.

Mines been reliable pretty much from the get go, it definitely needs a thorough cleaning though when new before shooting. I even take mine out hunting now it’s so reliable, both coyote & jackrabbit. It’s a fun hunting gun...

My reliability is improving still. I'm at 100% for buckshot, and almost there with #7.5 birdshot. Using 1290fps loads it's cycling fully about 80% of the time. I'm still under 100 rds total so looking promising. As far as the handguard heat issue, I'll likely be going with this:

http://www.kearms.com/shtf-wrap

I was going to go with the thermal tape from the post above, but I think this looks better and it's also easily removable.

I didn’t realize that break and was such a thing on these.

I was under the impression that others ran close to 100% if not 100% out of the box.

There is a break in period for sure, manufacturer states it is during approximately the first 75 rounds in the manual. Some take a little less, some take a little more.

Almost all guns require a break-in period. Even Glocks and AK's.

Rarely do you come across a gun that is flawless out of the box.

Well, I would agree that you should always expect a break in period.

On any firearm.

For the parts to wear in together.

So I don’t get too excited if I have a few malfs early on out of the box.

And if the gun is used for defense, I make sure it is Vetted with several hundred rounds of whatever carry load I’m using.

But to say, rarely do you come across a gun that is(runs)flawless out of the box?

That certainly has not been my experience since I started buying firearms in approximately 1982.

A few of mine have needed a definite break in period before they started running well but by far most did not.

I wish I still had every firearm I bought since then-not even close now. I would need a bunch more safes though!

But here’s just a few.

The aforementioned Glock’s(5 different models)Ran 100% out of the box.
Two different Ak’s ran 100% out of the box.
About 10 different ARs of various brands all ran 100% out of the box.
Two Beretta 92 FS ran 100% out of the box.
Two out of the five 1911’s I bought needed a break in. The other two ran like Glock’s and I flipped the other one before firing.
Both my G3 clones ran 100% out of the box.
Both my Cetme L rifles needed break-ins. But we’re talking like a 2 mag per gun break in.
Group Uzi ran 100% out of the box.

Spas-12 I bought used-so don’t know, but perhaps it was still in break in when I sold it prior to ban, as ejection in semiauto was still iffy.

Rem 1187 police ran 100% out of the box.
Benelli M1 super 90 ran 100% out of the box.
USAS-12 (Ca RAW/NFA papered DD)needed a break in as expected.

There are a lot more -but to say that 9 out of 10 of the new firearms I have bought have run flawlessly out of the box would not really be an exaggeration.

Perhaps I have just been lucky.

Also still waiting on the final iteration of the IWI TS-12

It's got some quirks, but it's super fun and is getting a good amount of market support since it's taking off with the 3gun crowd. Only thing I did was swap the stock out to a Magpul with limbsaver pad (already had the stock laying around), and ordered that heat wrap I linked to. I think a red dot with a circle reticle like the holosuns would be pretty slick on it, maybe down the road
