Default 10 RD mags for M1 carbine

I have several 15 rounders that work well including a few from ebay advertised as 10 rounds but actally 15. I bought a promag 10 round but it won't stay in . The main difference seems to be it does not have the tabs on the sides like the GI ones do. So far nobody at the range has gotten nosey but I can't count on this forever.

The keepshooting mags are the best 10 rounders, but still not perfect.

The best are the GI mags. You can get blocks for them at magblocks.com if you are skittish.

The Promags are just about pure garbage. I have 2 of them, and both came from the factory with the springs in backwards

+1 on the magblocks for GI issued m1 magazines

Cheap; easy to install; they work and so will your mags

Promag sucks. Never seen one that works right.

We all know that the GI magazines work the best. The Keep Shooting magazines work well.

I have purchased several magazines many years ago and have found some are just plain crap.

Here's the scoop on what to look for when buying magazines.

The feed lips need to be full length from front to back. I have some five round mags that the feed lips are beveled at the back.

The feed lips being beveled prevents contact with the case head. This causes the last round to bounce out of the mag and/or misfeeds.

Also check to see if the mag lips have full contact with the cartridge front to back. They can be bent down if there is any space is left between the cartridge and the lips.

A while back I modified a fifteen round magazine to ten rounds by cutting the mag body down to the length of a ten round mag. It worked perfectly as I found the ten round and fifteen round mags springs to be exactly same length.

Wasn't there a court order a few months back basically saying the mag ban was unenforcable?

Colt 9mm AR ProMag magazines are very good. I do not know about M1 ProMags.

None of my 15rnd GI mags have tabs on the sides. I do have some triple k 10rnd mags that have tabs on sides and followers that hold bolt open like the GI 30rnd mags

I picked up a 10/30 no name aftermarket mag at the OC gun show last time. It works fine in my M1 and since it's a "banana" mag it looks cool!
