Not that I am acting as a proponent of Brown especially in light of these interviews, but how many anti-gun bills did Arnie veto and how many anti-gun policies were enacted during Meg's time at eBay?
Until CA can offer up something better than a RINO, we're stuck with moderates like Brown or worse super liberals like Newsome or Harris.

I will be leaving in a few years for Free America ARIZONA I will make it plain and simple, California is a lost cause the demographics for the Democratics to stay in power can not be over come, Tony Villaraigosa or Newsom, Kamala Harris will be the next Governor they are rabid anti Second Amendment. The courts are our only hope but that will take years and money to unravel they know it. I want my remaining years to have less aggravation but will be sadden at what the state of California has become. I'm going to take a dump on the California side then raise my middle finger towards the capital. Let the Liberals bankrupt and destroy CA. |

Yeah, those videos in the Original Post are pretty much promises to sign "Assault Weapon" bills. Whole lot of suck coming down on us.
As far as the "Jerry Brown is Pro-Gun" opinions here, I agree it's a matter of degree. I believe he is less anti-gun than just about any Democratic Politician and certainly less than his gubernatorial opponent Queen Meg. This does not mean he is "Pro Gun." He has however shown that he will not automatically sign any anti-gun bill set before him. I think he gives some thoughtful consideration and picks out the ones with the worst potential future legal problems to veto. I think he will veto two or three of the current rabid pack of anti-gun bills that will pass the Legislature in September. Here's a few of his vetoes from the end of last years legislative session. http://www.nraila.org/legislation/st...gun-bills.aspx Seems like he vetoed a couple more the year before that as well as signing a bunch into law. So all I'm saying is that we'll get dumped on with 150 Tons of Suck instead of 200 Tons of Suck because of Jerry Brown. Might be tough to notice the difference when it's all pouring down on us. I think that's worth about 8 ounces of comfort in these Sucky Times we live in. I predict that future Governors and Legislatures will make us long for Jerry and the Good Old Days as we get the chance to compare "Slightly Less Anti-Gun" with "F*ck of a Lot More Anti-Gun." And yes, I voted for him. He was the best of a bunch of bad choices, as so often in US Politics. And he used to sleep with Linda Ronstadt.

Steinberg's and yee's arent on Brown's desk YET. dIdn't appropriations committee shoot down Yee last year? we need to make it clear to the appropriations committe that these WILL be tied up in court. California is going to have to spend a lot of money defending stupid laws. they will most likely lose the court battles. so why waste money you dont have? Just my $.02

But look who he was up against, Meg Whitman's the local version of a female Romney. Nobody rich and white who bought the nomination will win here. We need somebody who can explain the economy in a charismatic way and convince voters that their lives would be better if their family members had more opportunity. And that candidate needs to be a regular person, not a super rich elite.

This is the problem with our form of government. The legislative and executive branches are popularity contests. The rights of the minorities are ignored here. Only the judicial branch is intended to protect the rights of those in minority. But that intent is also sometimes subverted by activist judges who look to the popularity contests to guide them as to their rulings.
We need some way to protect the rights stated in the U.S. and State Constitutions from constant legislative attack. We need a bill that requires any bill affecting a Constitutional right to allow for time for a judicial challenge to complete before going into effect. I'm tired of being forced to live under unconstitutional laws while the judicial proceedings run through the system. |

In fact, all new laws should be required to be on hold if a lawsuit is filed within X number of days of being signed/expired into law. The hold should only be lifted when all pending lawsuits filed during that X-day period, and all appeals of these lawsuits, are closed.

I see him as supporting some bills, but hedging his bets.
His main concern right now is his legacy. He knows that Americans are more focused on the economy, and just as his father was behind some major structural projects (aquaducts anyone), he has his own legacy projects. Gun control is not one of them, so it is something I am sure he would throw under the bus if it served his agenda. Likewise it is something he will promote if it serves that agenda. Some bills, I think he is smart enough to know that they are not just bad law, but will cause distracting lawsuits. He may grossly exaggerate his work on the budget, but he doesn't want to make it worse. I think really, at this point, it is such an obsession of Dems in the legislature that in order to get talking about his legacy ideas he knows he has to appease them. I don't think he is strongly for or against the right to arms. Hence I think, unlike Feinstein, it is worth pressuring him, but foolhardy to place hope in him. I would predict, as things stand, signing, say, SB 47, but vetoing 374. That would give him the image of being "reasonable, and willing to compromise" to many, even though it would be nothing of the sort. But we shall see. |

If Brown were to help drive the having the 1994 Fed AW ban applied to California in place of existing CA laws, I would support it ;-)

-------------------------------------------------- I oppose all legislation below and will indicate why below each Bill. I urge you please to vote "NO" on all the legislation as it will never stop Criminals getting their hands on the firearms. Simply, Criminals do not follow the law, and stripping us law abiding citizens of our ability to defend ourselves and meet the criminal with equal and greater force is how we will survive. With rulings indicating The Police do not have to commit or protect citizens Leave the clear and decisive need to protect ourselves with equal and Greater forces is in our hands. Please read the rebuttals to all bills below each stated: Assembly Bill 711 (Rendon) BANS the use of all lead ammunition for hunting. Rebuttal: Lead Ammunition is design for the quick and ethical kill of animals. Ammunitions that are too hard will pass through the animals and will cause longer live times or they run and hide and bleed to death how can you live with the thought of a long death when lawfully and licensed quotas of Game Animals. A hunter wants a quick and clean kill. Hard bullets that do not deliver all the energy that pass through with sufficient energy are still dangerous as they keep going. Lead has been used for 100's or years and there is no evidence given that justifies the banning of it. It is an attempt to stop the ability to reload ammunition and take it out of the hands of the hobbyist or competition shooter. Many gun Clubs extract and clean up hunting areas today, and reclaim the lead so it cleans up the environment. Lead is a natural element created when the planet was created. There are plenty of warnings and safe handling procedures that already protect the use of it. We do not need to ban it. Assembly Bill 231 (Ting) expands the law for Criminal Storage of Firearms and child access. Rebuttal: We already have these laws. Responsible gun owners lock up their firearms as well as teach our children safe gun handling practices, procedures and the Realities on how dangerous they are. Senate Bill 47 (Yee) expands the definition of “assault weapons” to BAN the future sale of rifles that have been designed/sold and are equipped to use the “bullet button” or similar device, requires NEW “assault weapon” registration of ALL those semi-auto rifles that are currently possessed to retain legal possession in the future, and subjects these firearms to all other “assault weapons” restrictions. Rebuttal: When your home is invaded by criminals that have semi-automatic weapons with High capacity magazines, we need to be able to meet that force with equal and greater force to defend our homes families and our very lives. I am not asking for a rocket launcher, Tank or a bazooka, or a machine gun. The definition of assault is when another person attempts to do you bodily harm. it has nothing to do with how firearms are defined or look, again it is criminals that are assaulters not firearms. Senate Bill 53 (DeLeon) requires persons to buy an annual ammunition purchase permit, requires the registration and thumbprint of the purchaser for each ammunition purchase, and bans online and mail order sales of ammunition to Californians. Rebuttal: How many background checks do we need to be subjected to? How much Ammo I buy to defend my home or to compete in an Amercan tradition of sportsmanship should be unlimited and within my own resources to acquire. You are already treating us like criminals. Ammunition needs to be available by all means necessary to be able to protect ourselves. This very law and the one that was repealed interferes with interstate commerce laws. Let’s not waste any more time litigating and wasting tax payers money. You get to collect the taxes on the mail orders so you would be cutting an income stream. You are supposed to be upholding our Civil rights (The Constitution) as you have sworn in the oath of office. Your continuous attacks on out rights must stop. Cease and desist.. Senate Bill 108 (Yee) requires mandatory locked storage of firearms within a locked house regardless of whether anyone is present. Rebuttal: I already lock up and store all my firearms because I am a responsible gun owner. When I am home, I have the right to carry, inspect, practice, clean and maintain all of my weapons and keeping them locked up at all time in itself strips us of the ability to defend ourselves and our homes at a moment’s notice. Then what stops the criminals from the taking those firearms to then create more crime? I Have and continue to train my children in the safe use storage and maintenance of all firearms, and the dangers of firearms. I don't need countless laws to tell me to be responsible. Senate Bill 293 (DeSaulnier) BANS the sale of conventional handguns, if the state Department of Justice approves the sale of “Owner Authorized – Smart” handgun technology. Rebuttal: Some of the technologies force the defeating of a firearm when it is needed the most in an emergency. Clip removal lockout mechanisms disable a gun from firing a chambered round could be the last defense to a lethal and death clash with a home invasion. Passing these laws is unconceivable, and how do you sleep at night knowing you have stripped us of our abilities to defend ourselves. As stated by the courts and many statistics, the police will never show up in time, and it has already been determined by the courts Police do not have to defend or protect citizens. Senate Bill 299 (DeSaulnier) turns victims of firearm theft into criminals for failing to report the loss of their firearm within 48 hours. Rebuttal: Why make more criminals out of victims. In many cases those persons having their guns stolen may not even know they have been taken, All this will do is cause less reporting because this would mean jail time for a crime you didn’t commit. The criminal that stole the weapon is the real criminal here. Senate Bill 374 (Steinberg) expands the definition of "assault weapons" to BAN the future transfer of all semi-auto rifles that accept detachable magazines (including those chambered for rimfire cartridges) and virtually all semi-auto rifles with fixed magazines (primarily those chambered for rim fire cartridges), requires NEW "assault weapon" registration, requires registration of ALL those semi-auto rifles that are currently possessed to retain legal possession in the future, and subjects these firearms to all other "assault weapon" restrictions. Rebuttal: When I bought all my firearms in the state of California, they are already registered. Double, triple registration is nothing but costly, and burden to the Law abiding citizen. Criminals are not going to register their stolen guns, or acquired stolen guns from a black market. Rim fire ammunition is one generation above Cap and ball and these calibers are not powerful enough to stop a home invasion and are used more for target practice. Hindering us at every turn of our lives is a direct attack on the life liberty and the pursuit of happiness. We have far too many regulations and laws that are a hindrance or road blocks to the basic and fundamental civil rights. I must be able to defend my home and family with equal and greater force to stop a gang of Home invasion criminals. When you stop us or prohibit us from lawfully obtaining firearms of equal force, you condemn us to death. How do you sleep at night? I am not asking to own a Tank, Bazooka or a machine gun, but for the ability to own what is clearly someone’s distorted interpretation of what an assault weapon is. When a criminal attacks my home it is an assault. Assaults are the acts of people not how you define a weapon and its capability. To be a proficient operator of firearms Small arms are cheaper to stay in practice to strip us of the ability to maintain skill will leave us vulnerable in a time of crisis in attempting to defend ourselves. Our police forces train every day. Proficient and Law abiding Gun owners need to be afforded the same training an expertise. Senate Bill 396 (Hancock) BANS the POSSESSION of any magazine with a capacity to accept more than ten cartridges, including currently legally possessed "grandfathered large capacity” magazines. Rebuttal: High capacity magazines are the equal and opposite force needed to defend our homes when a multiple Criminal home invasion occurs. Forcing me to 10 rounds or not allowing me to change out a magazine quickly to meet with equal or greater force will get us all killed. Again, the police will never be there in time and by law do not have to protect you or your family. That by my Civil rights is a task I assume the rights to do. Senate Bill 567 (Jackson) expands the definition of shotgun for “short-barreled shotguns” that are illegal to own. Rebuttal: Most in close combat situations in home invasions a short barreled Shotgun gives a wider blast range to take out the criminal. A short barreled shotgun in a struggle is harder to take away than a 30" goose gun, and easier to maneuver in your home during an home invasion. These bills are short sighted and do not have any statistics behind them to even unjustify their existence. Stop trying to take our rights away. You swore an oath to defend the constitution not to destroy it. All I see is a constant attack and stripping of our privacy and civil rights Cease and desist. Senate Bill 755 (Wolk) expands the list of persons prohibited from owning a firearm. Rebuttal: Where does the list ever stop? Once a list like this gets created, you will find every reason on the planet to add everyone to it. Referring to the mentally ill, let’s design and implement programs that fix the broken mental health system in this country and build better rehabilitation programs. It seems you simply have given up on us Americans and our basic rights. Assembly Bill 169 (Dickinson), which BANS the sale of handguns not on the state-approved roster. Rebuttal: Good people exercising caution always make good choices in private gun transfers. FFL03 with Certificates of Eligibility holders are persons that have gone through the rigors of background and Good moral character checks. We are asked by the DOJ to help monitor the exchange and transfer in private party transfers to flush out criminals. We are required to log transfers even for curios and relics, as well as use an FFL01 to transfer modern day handguns into the state of California. Collectors of firearms collect just like a stamp collectors collect stamps or a coin collector collects coins. They have the right to collect as many as they want with no restrictions to when it was sold or used. In closing you need law abiding citizens to help deter the Criminals by allowing us to meet them with equal or greater force to win the battle against crime. The theater Massacre and Sandyhook are examples of Gun free zones that to a criminal are free for all killing opportunities. If the theater would have had CCW holders carrying, the shooter would have been met with a force that would have save lives. We need to fortify our schools and teach our children that Firearms used properly and how to defend themselves in the long run teaches good citizens to be safe and learn the consequences of submitting and cowering. That will only get you killed Why not go after Video Games or Hollywood movies that seem to endlessly portray violence, and leave us gun owners alone, to protect ourselves in how we see fit. Again Assault is what people do to people and is not a word or phrase that should be used to define firearms that used in the proper manor allow us to exercise the rights to traditional sportsmanship, competition shooting and self-defense. Thank you |

He'll sign anything...
that does not cost the state too much, and there are a lot of things that have been offered that fall into that category.
So I think that bullet button bill (SB 47), storage bill (SB 108), mandated reporting (SB 127), unsafe handguns (AB 169), AW owner restrictions (AB 170), pre-emption exception for Oakland (AB 180), ammunition taxes (AB 187) are all likely candidates, if they reach his desk. They would give Brown a lot of reasons to brag that California remains the state with the strongest gun control. Ammunition purchase permits and increased background checks MIGHT get vetoed if Brown thinks they cost too much money, but that would be the only reason, IMHO. The only reason AB 180 won't get signed is that Brown thinks firearms law should be handled at the state level, but he is a former Mayor of Oakland, and I would be surprised if AB 180 was not discussed with Brown before it was introduced. If Oakland gets AB 180, look for SF and LA to beg and whine to be added to the list. It would be a step toward making California like Illinois, and Los Angeles like Chicago. |

I've written Jerry brown a couple times with no response. Snail mail and email.
We are doomed if villaraigosa becomes gov. It's unbelievable IMO that he would even be talked about as a governor. The only thing I recall of him doing is potholes (FAIL in my neck of the city), sex scandal, and Hispanic rights. In regards to 2A he has been a critic of the NRA and also has said he will not wait for Washington to respond. |
