Default WEGC 9-29- 13

i figured we should start a new thread on what we are going to do. i am 100% open to changes.
1. [2] classes one for scopes and one for open sights. both on metal targets at 100 yards. how about a smaller target maybe 4-5 inches for the scope class and my bigger 12-14 inch plate for the open sights class. count the hits until you miss.
and we need to make sure the shooters that just want to shoot without being in the competition are welcome also. we are more interested in meeting you and seeing your rifles than anything else. if you have never been to WEGC do not worry it is a first class range and you can shoot as a guest for 10 bucks. you do not need to own a C&R to come out.

Whatever everyone decides is a-ok with me, I do have to admit though that I personally have liked the competitions or at least the friendly competitive aspect of the competitions from the first two shoots . . Maybe an Allied vs Axis Match on the side.

The matches go by so quickly and you are limited to only one rifle per class that I would be down for some smaller rifle specific matches before or after the main one.

Garand match
SKS match
k31 match
Mauser match
Enfield match
etc...

with 3 or 4 people these mini matches go by pretty quick as you just load up a clip or mag and shoot the steel until you are empty and whoever gets the most hits wins. Armistice's sudden death idea would work well as a tie breaker. The mini matches will give you a chance to shoot the "breeze" with some others that own the same rifle.

If anyone is interested let me know.

shoot metal until you miss, we can have all the classes we want. fine by me. as long as we have 2 people with the same rifle let them have a shoot off.

Great idea.

Who wants to challenge me in the 91/30 PU Sniper category?

I'll let you use my rifle

Normally people shoot sitting at the little tables they have there. But we could do a standing/sitting match.

Something like 3-5 shots each with:

Mosin non-scoped, 50 yards standing
Mosin non-scoped, 100 yards sitting

Then the same with scoped, or other rifles, etc.

standing with iron sights at 100 yards should finish that contest pretty fast. i am all for letting you enter as many shoot offs as you have rifles.
how about
1. standing mosin iron sights 100 yards
2. mosin PU 100 yards [ bench]
3. standing SKS 100 yards
4. standing 100 yards 1903 springfield, M1, Mauser, swiss K31, M1 grand and others not mentioned
5. standing 100 yards M1 carbine and mini 14

please add to this list as you please, no leaders in charge here.

don't wanna sound like a stick in the mud here, but I think opening it up to a lot of non-c&r kinda cheapens the effect of a gathering like this. an ak or ar here and there I get but pretty soon I fear it'll become a mall-ninja shoot. granted I only made it to the first one, and probably won't make this month either, but I had a really good time at the first and i'd love to see this stay fairly pure. there were non-c&r's at the first one too, but not many. not trying to be a snob, just sayin'

How about we go back to the 1st shoot, the categories were:

Mosin - scoped - 100 yards
Mosin - non-scoped - 100 yards

C&R - scoped - 100 yards
C&R - non-scoped - 100 yards

This would be cool, Mosins are the most popular C&R's, but a lot of members have other rifles as well.

I think it would also be cool to have a 50 yard iron sights shoot. C&R rifles only, standing only. That would be pretty challenging, some of these old rifles are pretty heavy

not to worry, this is a mostly mosin shoot. but most mosin shooters also bring other cool C&Rs. we formed this group to honor C&Rs. nothing has changed.

i have no problem with that. are enough metal plates going to be their ?. my metal plate is big enough even i can hit it at 100 yards pretty often. a smaller metal plate at 50 yards would be ok if they let us do it ? i think we agree paper scoring is kind of a pain.

Personally, I think 50 yards for steel is too close for the kind of rifles we would mostly be shooting. I have a 10" AR500 plate I can bring to the shoot and I'd feel better putting it at 100 yards.

I just had an idea

I'm really bad with names, I kinda remember a few of you guys from the last couple of shoots

What if we get a bunch of these stickers and write our user names and real names on them? I remember the user names for some people, real names for others, but sometimes can't put them together, hehe

What do you guys think?

Default Details

I guess it is time to crunch out the details. Baboosh will not be able to be their so it is up to us to pull this off. We need volunteers to be in charge of whatever rifle class they want to shoot. so lets hash it out.
i will use my large 14 inch plate to shoot the mosin scoped and un scoped shoot at 100 yards ,shooting from the bench. we will keep track of how many hits you make out of 5 shots, if no misses keep going until you do miss. that is about all i can handle.
so others please chime in and come up with a plan you like for other rifle classes. work it out. this way we can have many classes going at the same time. the only problem with this plan is some will not be able to shoot in multiple classes at the same time. you still should be able to shoot in more than one class.
I will be their before 8 am. maybe we can start the shoot off at 9:30. that gives everybody time to practice.
so we need more stands with metal targets and people to put together a rifle type competition with the C&R of their choice.

All classes do the same. Shoot until you miss

We should have the last 2-3 benches dedicated to the comp and each have one bag rest

We need to figure out how many plates and stands we have that are the same size. If we have two plates that are the same size we can use those for the Mosin and Non Mosin main match. That way more than one shooter can go at a time.

I have an 8" plate which is about 1/3 the surface area of Notabiker's plate that we can use for the scoped competitors if you guys want.

I do suggest that if people have plates they bring them so we can have backups set up and ready to go. It sucks when Armistice people shoot a chain or a shephard's hook and knock the plate down rendering it unusable until after the next line break.

As far as the mini-matches go I am planning on bringing my SKS, Garand and a Mauser. If anybody else is planning on shooting one of those rifles and wants to get in on a mini match let me know and we can get a list together and make it happen.

Default Sign up for Mini Match

If you want to sign up for a mini match, you can add your name to this sheet or just let me know and I will add it for you. If you do not see a firearm listed that you would like to bring and shoot in a mini match then add it and maybe that will encourage someone else to bring theirs out too.

I have 3 12" circles and a double shepard's hook. However, I really should get some cheap carabiners so that they don't flip off the hook when shot

I'll have:
1903
91/30
K98 Czech and RC
SKS
SVT40

No big deal to show up at the last minute, But it would be nice to get a up date on who is coming for sure.

Lets just copy the info from the other thread about this shoot, a bunch of people signed up there. This is the information from the last post:

I think Baboosh said he won't be able to make, but I'm not sure. I'll leave his name on the list just in case

go ahead and take me off the list, things keep getting worse around here. hopefully a job will come through in the next couple weeks and I might be up for the next shoot. things are getting pretty depressing around here. meanwhile I'll be working on my projects that don't require money, including a couple of steel plate targets and some more reloading, and a couple rifles that'll be ripe for the next shoot as long as i'm not in as dire straights as I am now. thanks, and sorry guys, i'll bring the whole damned arsenal when I get out again, I promise. you saw what I brought the first time. i'll be bringing far more when next I appear. just look for Adam12.
