Default Harpe upper

Ares armory selling Harpe upper for $500.00. Seems like sweet deal. Just wondering if anyone has installed one or had issues with!

I doubt you'll get much feedback as it looks like a new product that hasn't been released yet. Great pre-order price though given the components used!

Just looked at it. Didn't see whether or not it was chrome lined, or did I miss something?

No Chrome, its Black nitride finish, read a little about it and sounds good. Put in a pre-order this morning for one, Ares just takes forever to get things out...

Seems like a fair price. Considering the gooberment pays around $450.00 for the highest quality M16/ m4 and it doesn't cost any more to make atop quality AR15. The mass consumers don't realize how over charged they are for AR15s.

"Ares Armor" + "Pre-order" = proceed with caution.

lol
Funniest thing I've read all day

But getting back on subject -- this "Harpe" upper in its current configuration at the advertised price point is certainly intriguing. I wonder what the catch is.. there is always a catch (foil hat)

We aren't getting a volume discount.

Did they give you an approximate arrival date? I'm considering one myself.

They say approximately 90 days here...about halfway down the page...

http://www.ar15news.com/category/rec...per-receivers/

Given the rep that Ares made for themselves, if I bought one, I'd bet 50-50 I'd never receive it.

Apparently, you're cc is charged at the time of order, not when the upper is shipped...

http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_3_118/639479_.html

Charging you at the time of order, and then guesstimating that it might take 3 months to ship, is a PERFECT example of a small company with seeds-to-stems cash flow.

Again, given Ares' rep, and given Ares' owner's BS responses, I would not remotely consider going forward on the upper with my money.

Ymmv, but proceed cautiously.

I'm seeing the same thing here that I see all the time here...raving about plastic lowers and then finding they won't fit a normal lower is a perfect example.

Anyone buying this is an idiot.

It's a non-existent product from a company with a reputation of failing to ship products on time if ever. Furthermore, to even buy the stupid thing you need to make some agreements spelled out in plain English on the ordering page here: http://aresarmor.com/store/Item/aa_BAupper

Quote:
New orders can take 90 days to fill*
Yes, I know my product can take 90 days.
Not a big deal.

Wait, what's that right underneath?
Quote:
Sales ticket on out-of-stock item*
Yes, I am buying a nonrefundable ticket.
Really? So not only are you paying up front now, but you are agreeing that you're buying a "ticket" for the product to be redeemed for the product rather than the product itself, and such ticket is non-refundable. So if ares doesn't deliver within 90 days, or never delivers are all, you can't get your money back. But lets take a look at their official policy page
http://aresarmor.com/store/StorePolicies
Quote:
Return / Refund Policy

All Purchases are NON REFUNDABLE.

At the time of your order your card / account will be charged in full (the reason for this is with the amount of items that are being ordered and shipped if we had to go back and re-process payments it would take an additional 2 weeks to complete shipping).

Some items, like our Kydex and Nylon products, are custom and built to order; as such please allow 2-6 weeks for product delivery. However, popular items we do tend to keep in-stock. By placing a order for these items you agree that you will wait for your items and that there will be NO refund available.

Our Website does show stock. Live inventory shows products to be in-stock or out-of-stock. By placing an order on this website you are agreeing to WAIT for your item. Some items have substantial back-orders with an opt-in email program to send notifications when products are back in-stock. By placing an order you are agreeing that you will wait for your items and that there will be NO refund available.

PLEASE DO NOT ORDER UNLESS YOU ARE WILLING TO WAIT FOR YOUR ITEMS! LEAD TIMES FOR SOME ITEMS COULD BE AS LONG AS 9 MONTHS!

Every item we sell is carefully inspected before it is shipped. If you are not satisfied with the goods and inform us within seven days of your receipt of the goods, you may contact us to set up an exchange. We will exchange items if they are faulty on delivery to you and we are notified within 7 days of the customers receipt of the product. All products to be returned must be carefully repackaged in their original packing
That is complete and utter bull****. Anyone falling for it deserves to get ripped off. Wait, not really deserves to get ripped off, but shouldn't be surprised if/when it happens. There are plenty of other retailers and manufacturers out there who also have items with lead times of months, and they don't have such utterly ridiculous policies. Restocking and cancellation fees sure, but a flatout no refunds? Even some of the shadiest operations out there wouldn't go with a policy that ludicrous.

I'll just stick my neck out there and say I ordered mine a few days ago. Honestly, I was spending too much time browsing online stores and forums so I just bought what I wanted to get it over with. I hope to get the upper in July or August but I anticipate receiving it as a graduation gift (summer 2015).

This kind of thing always bothers me:
Quote:
Retail: $1,150.95
On Sale: $497.56
You Save: 57%
I'm assuming that the sale price is NOT below their cost. So, if their cost is less than $497 then their price mark-up, for "retail", is greater than 100%?

Default Ares Armor

All I can say guys is I live in San Diego and have bought numerous products from Ares. I haven't had any problems with them and the guys there have always been friendly and really helpful. I did finally cancel an %80 308 lower because it just took too long. Kinda wish I hadn't now as they got them in a few months later. They had no problem refunding my money and canceling the order. I do see that their policies have changed and they state up front what they will and won't refund. So you may have to wait for what you want but everyone there is great and they are a stand up company doing what many people are not willing to. I say Go Ares Armor.

GSA pricing is the lowest price I am able to sell, to anyone, even wholesalers.

In the commercial world, you have a channel, and everyone gets a cut: Manufacturer > wholesaler > dealer > consumer

April 9 received a email saying that Harpes were ahead of schedule, April 10 received a email saying that my Harpe is underway in a box to my place of residence. So it only took about a little short of 2 months...

With all thats been going on with Ares, I think it fitting to put it on a certain receiver that didn't make it past the ATF inspection...

I'm anxious to see if the upper is as nice as it sounds. Glad to see Ares actually getting these shipped as quickly as they are

How come all these guys with the pre orders and almost no post count? Smells fishy to meet... Seems like Ares Armor needs some lawyer money.

I think it's more likely that the folks who have been around here for more than a few months would be the ones least likely to do business with Ares considering their history, and the users registered more recently just might not be as familiar with them.

If Ares does actually get product out the door(all of it, not just a couple here and there) and we aren't seeing posts 6 months from now of people complaining they still have nothing, great.

This.

I kind of noticed that, so I went and had a count.
It seems to me that there are 5 or so different poster's on here that posted they ordered "the GREAT deal !!!" and all of them put together have under 100posts between the lot.

Just obvious, that's all. Not insinuating anything.

uh huh ...

All the constitutional stuff aside, these guys (in my opinion) are pretty low the way they conduct business.

Ares does take a while to get things out the door. But, I do have many items from them. Did I wait forever? Yes but they are all quality items I have received so far. I ordered this upper about 2 months ago and received shipping confirmation yeaterday. I should have this upper in the next day or so. I will post pics when I receive it.

If you guys are interested in this I would get it now as the price usually jumps up with Ares once they have the item on the shelf and in stock.

I saw the Harpe upper at the National City store during the grand opening. Honestly, I don't see what makes it a $1000 upper? Unless the Ares Armor parts are rebranded high end parts. Someone could easilly build a similar upper for $500.

No, I'm familiar with Ares Armor through a close relative. It took over a year for them to deliver but they improved the design and sent a free compensator for the inconvenience. Ares keeps sending out vague emails about shipping the upper but no results yet.

Regarding the more recent posts here about people with low post counts like myself, totally accurate; I also advertise for Depend if anyone is interested.

Received it in the mail yesterday. Pretty sweet looking rig. I will be taking it out Wednesday and let you guys know what I think. I am pretty intrigued by the EFFIN-A Compensator 5.56 MKII and how you can adjust the ports.

Because it isn't a $1,000 upper. It's a sells gimmick, put the MSRP really high and put the sales price at half it to make you think you're getting a deal. Judging by the parts and spec this upper is worth no more then $600-700. Lets see them try to sale them at the $1150 MSRP. I bet sales would drop dramatically. Its a buyers market right now, the price of $500 is decent for this upper but I wouldn't pay more then that consider I could build a better one with a CHF Barrel & high quality parts from known manufacture if this upper cost more then $500.

I ordered and have it in hand in about 65 days. Fit perfect on a Quentin lower and so far it functions flawless. Still working on tuning the EffinA in, may end up throwing a Cooley on and calling it good
