Default 2014 Golden Bullet Norcal Section USPSA match

The Golden Bullet is being held in Richmond at the Richmond Hot Shots range on June 27-29, 2014. June 27th is for Staff/RO's and June 28-29 is for everyone else. It is a day and a half format.. 12 squads of up to 15 competitors. Overflow or people who cannot make the weekend are being given the option to shoot with the staff/RO's on Friday with approval by the MD (me). There are 8 stages plus chrono. There will be a 1 hour break for lunch and the clubhouse will have lunch for sale.. Probably 3 or 4 choices.

Stages are posted!!

http://richmondhotshots.com/gbc2014/gbc2014.htm

The Fee for this year is $125. The match info can be found on the USPSA web site under "major matches" or at:

http://www.uspsa.org/uspsa-match-listing.php

It is under "Sectional Championship Match Schedule".

We have a facebook page which can be found at:

https://www.facebook.com/GoldenBulletChampionship

You need to be logged onto Facebook or have an acct to see it.

We are currently looking for stage and match level sponsors.. please contact me via PM or via the email address on the match Web page on the USPSA web site. You must be a member of USPSA/IPSC to shoot this match.

The last time Richmond had the match, we had 240 competitors. There is an application link on the web page as well. Range officers will be re-imbursed at the match and if they work the entire match, we will pick up the cost of their lunch at the clubhouse both Sat/Sun.

Likely shoot time will be 7 am-noon, 1-6 on Sat.. and 7am - noon on Sunday. Time for RO's/staff on Friday is TBD for now.

Squadding will be on the USPSA web site. Please include your email addres ont he application since there will be info sent to it when I process your application. We will try to score this one electronically, so there will likely be other information about where else to register if we go that avenue.

The Official "Match Hotel" or rather the hotel that I chose for match participants to stay at is the Courtyard Marriot in Richmond, CA. This hotel is right off Hilltop Drive with the Hilltop Mall nearby and right across the street from Chevy's. It is within view of I80.

You can start making reservations by calling 1-800-321-2211, or call the hotel directly at 510-262-0700. Please mention the match, “Golden Bullet Championship”.

Rooms will be held at the group discounted rate through the reservation cut off date of May 26, 2014. The rate is $129/night. I know there are less expensive places around the area, but I chose this one since it has access to the freeway and is about a 10 minute drive to the range. The rate is $129/night, Double Occupancy plus the current 10.065% tax rate..

Please make sure that if you can't make it, you cancel with the hotel and give them adequate notice. Competitors are responsible for their own charges..

As usual, I'll monitor this thread as questions arise.

25 competitors entered and squadding is open on USPSA.. Right now is the best time to sign up since all squads are available right now.. Refund policy is if something comes up, I will refund up to first shot fired on Friday June 27th.

One sided are likely going to have the vertical golden bollet emblem with the year on it on the left breast.. two sided will have the same on the front with the large Golden Bullet emblem on the back. The co-MD went with Oxford gray. I'll see if I can upload the pics in a day or two.. or see if he can do it.. I am not at home so can't do it this moment.. They will not look like my lame ones of two years ago..

I think that you just answered the true subtext of the question I was at GBC two years ago, love the match. The shirt? Less so...

I'm in again this year and I dropped the coin for a shirt even!

Looking forward to seeing our friends up north again!

GBC 2012 was a quietly subdued shooting shirt one could wear anywhere...though it attracted too many winks & knowing smiles while
walking the streets of SF after the match...
Any chance of a long sleeve polo version?
Check is in the mail; San Diego will be represented again.

I'm co-MD. I just emailed our designer, asking him to make a mock-up of the shirt that we can put up here. It will be similar to the logo on the facebook page for the GBC.

Courtyard by Marriott seems to be about the best easiest to get to that is higher brow than Motel 6.. I've been trying to get off my lazy *** and get over there to negotiate a deal for the match but well, just haven't gotten to it yet.. I don't see a real emergency need since no tourists usually stay in Richmond... I hope to get over there this week to secure something. I am away in the Sac Valley doing some late season goose hunting.. and not doing too bad..

I stayed at the Courtyard Richmond Berkeley two years ago and it was clean and close. Right next to a mall in case you need to pick anything up. I'll probably stay there again this year. Hopefully Vince can get us a better rate, they're quoting 129-143/night at the moment for that weekend.

Chop chop!

If it's any value, here is a page on local amenities around the Richmond range:

Ok leaving to send my registration form and dinero now. I am venturing out of my happy place in the "local" shooting scene... what should I expect at this FUN HOUSE? Any tips, pointers, things I should pack that I don't normally bring to the local Matches? Whats the weather like up in NorCal in June?

It's a longer day than a local match. Bring snack bars/food, sunscreen, etc. Richmond can have wide swings in temperature throughout the day (especially in Summer...mornings can be freezing cold with hot afternoons). Dress in layers that you can strip off or add on as the day goes on.

Regarding equipment, bring spares. Any spare springs you can think of. Spare firing pin. Anything that might break and can be easily repaired at a match (if I travel for a match, I take a spare gun...it would suck to spend all that money for match/travel and then have the day cut short because of a major failure with your pistol).

Check your gear for legality (including your ammo power factor). Big boy (and girl) rules..."I didn't know that was not legal" or "I didn't know my ammo doesn't make power" doesn't fly at a big match (even if you are shooting factory ammo whose marketing specs says it should make power).

There will be some snacks available for sale.. Usually water is available on the stages for gratis.. The Clubhouse will be selling lunch starting about 11:30 am.. Working on a menu for that.. will know more when we get closer.. thinking burgers, hot dogs.. and a taco/burrito bar.. There will be a vegetarian option also.

102 competitors entered.. check your spam folders..

I have a few questions regarding the match:

1. Squads are available to shoot sat am/pm, sat am sun am, or sat pm/ sun am so what time does am stop shooting and pm start?
2. If a shooter is done shooting on Sat if they were in a Sat am/pm squad is their anything going on Sunday that Requires them to stay?
3. What time is the match officially over on Sunday? (I am betting question number one will answer this for me but in case there is some other thing going on sunday I am going to let the question stay)
4. I am insanely cheap and didn't spring for a shirt and now I am having cheap guy remorse will shirts be available for purchase at the match?

Thanks for the answers in advance and all who replied to my last inquiry!

I don't have official answers but these answers are informed by my experience from attending 2 years ago:

1. Morning is probably 7am-12:30pm, afternoon squads are probably 1pm-5:30pm (ish)
2. If you want to collect a prize then you should be there for the match wrap up which will include awards and prize wall. The shooting should probably be over by 12:30, final scores posted by 2pm at which point the wrap up starts.
3. The match wrap up usually takes a couple of hours to get everyone their prizes and such. So that places completely done at about 4pm
4. With most matches there are usually some spares but you're rolling the dice. I think that these shirts are on the higher end for match shirts so the odds of spares (especially in a particular size) are lower.

Like I said, I was just a participant but that was my experience (+/- 1 hour on most times).

Hope that helps!

Stop shooting at noon for morning squad, start shooting at 1 pm for afternoon squad. We break an hour or so for lunch. There will be details posted later.. Shooting will be 7a-noon for morning, 1-6 for afternoon, and 7a-noon for sunday morning.

Quote:
2. If a shooter is done shooting on Sat if they were in a Sat am/pm squad is their anything going on Sunday that Requires them to stay?
Prize table by raffle and cash awards payout via 3-5-7 by division/class.. Also there will be some vendors. Every shooter get 1 raffle ticket. You MUST be a registered competitor to get a raffle ticket. First item raffled will be the Major Prize (Something from Limcat). Other firearms will then be raffled off to allow an equal chance at a firearm.. Once you win, you will be out of the running. Raffle ticket Number will be tied to competitor #. Cash prizes depend on oorder of finish in your division/classification. Usually HOA, HOA Master, then 1, 2, 3 for M, A, B, C, and D. Unclassified does not get a cash payout so get classified if you want a cash payout. GM's generally fight it out for the top slot.. and we tend to not get too many of those..

Quote:
3. What time is the match officially over on Sunday? (I am betting question number one will answer this for me but in case there is some other thing going on sunday I am going to let the question stay)
Noon on Sunday is when shots should be last fired. Usually an hour protest (also known as lunch) period once scores are posted, then tear down and then prizes.

Quote:

I will only be ordering a few extras so if you want a shirt, you better order one in advance. I always seem to wind up with extra shirts.. I still have shirts from two years ago.. in very large sizes.. I'm only going to get a few extra in med, large, and XL..

C'mon guys.. Mail is not like email, it sometimes takes 2 weeks depending on the mail system in your area to get mail to me. I had one guy ask me if I'd received something on the 24th since he;d sent it on the 20th.. this over a weekend.. The post office can be very good, but I'm not going to check the mail every day where I'm having you send it.. I check the mailbox at most on Weds and on Sunday.. If it's been over 2 weeks, then get concerned.

I got a large stack from the club last night and I will be trying to process these today or sometime this weekend.. I will update this thread and the facebook thread when it happens... you who are looking or have smartphones will know as soon as the emails get sent.

141 current competitors.. if all of you squad at once... I'll have to open up the remaining slots.. There is an option to shoot on Friday with the RO's and staff... We're getting to that point already..
