My father grew up in rural early 1950's Czechoslovakia and fondly remembers finding a military rifle out in the woods with his buddies. They had fun polishing it up, bringing it back to life, and taking shots at trees with it. Word got out pretty quickly though and a local police officer came knocking at his home asking for it be turned in, and so it was... Incredible to think that this was a common childhood experience for so many generations of Europeans following the war.
