Default Good book to learn about computers?

So, part of my job includes working on computers and networks and what have you. I know about zero in regards to computers and I don't want to be to far behind the learning curve. We use Dell laptops with Windows 7 mostly. I don't know much about computers and I am looking for a good book or 10 to learn about computers. Eventually I will probably go through Security+ and Network+.

Windows 7 for dummies, "insert field here" for dummies.

They've always worked good for me.

What aspect so you need to know is something you need to elaborate on.

Do you want to be proficient in Microsoft office, excel, word?

Do you need to know computer aided design?

Do you need to know software programming?

Do you just need to know the basics?

I need to know enough to troubleshoot computers. I need to be proficient in Microsoft Office, mostly excel, power point and outlook. I need to be able to set up a network and troubleshoot existing networks. Those are long termish goals. I want to start with the basics and work my way up.

The A+ curriculum is a great place to start. Also, find a book on how to troubleshoot. That helped me alot in my first gig.

Look for http://www.amazon.com/Upgrading-Repa...ref=pd_sim_b_1

Or something similar. That is always a good book to have on hand if you know NOTHING.

If you are in socal and your job is hiring techs lemme know. I am currently waiting to get into a few places.

Many of the BIBLE books have good information if you have 0 skills. They can assist you in walking through troubleshooting and so forth. AMazon is your friend.

I even have a few e-books laying around here somewhere...

Thanks. I will have to check that out. I found a few ebooks but I get distracted to easily with those, and I want something I can take places with me.

My work is always hiring. I'm in the Army .
