Default Password Help

I wish that upon my death a specified person has access to, say, a picasa account.

However I want my account information (username and password) to remain secret from him until I die.

How can, say, my brother, who might be handling all of this, get the necessary info upon my death to access a web account without the involvement of lawyers, paying money, trusting third parties, etc.?

I don't want to have to write my passwords in my will.

Sorry for replying to my own post, but how about creating a program that expects to receive an "I am alive" email every week? This program has access to the account information. In the event that you do not send the "I am alive" email to the program, the program sends an email to the executor or other chosen person.

ETA: This could be done with existing software I believe. I bet it could be done on an Android phone using Tasker.

To simplify things, I would tie the "I am alive" message to m Windows login. If I don't login in 7 days, I must be dead, or on a good vacation.

Make sure to include an option to let it know you will not be checking in for X number of extra days.

Try this:

Granted, it does violate your criteria of not involving third parties, but short of coding your own dead man switch, this is the path of least resistance.

Write it down, stick it in a safe deposit box. When you die, the bank will turn over its contents to a spouse or immediate family member. They'll require a copy of the death certificate and the will saying that person is allowed to access it.
