5th Deployment
Just got a short notice deployment, yay! My wife's not too thrilled as I've only been home for 9 months but she know's it what I have to do. Back to Afghanistan...Also, my little brother found out the same day he is being deployed too...We're both USAF, he is Security Forces and I'm a 2T2.
Sucky part is we had leave planned for a family reunion like 4-5 days after I'm supposed to leave. It would be the first time in 2 years actually getting to see my parents/brothers and all of us being together. My mom was sad but she also understands. I always have 60 or 70+ days of leave saved up hahaha, what a PITA! |

SF in afghanistan provides base/flight line security where I was but I think they do some convoys too. They have ravens that travel with aircraft for security purposes too. Not sure exactly but may there is an SF guy on here and can explain their duties there?!? Thank you. |

I just got home from my 3rd in 5 years. I know how you feel about the leave days. I'm sitting somewhere north of 85 days as of now.

They definitely seemed to know their stuff when the shooting started and that's what really matters. How long do you expect to be gone? Good luck to you and stay safe.

To the OP, I feel you brother on the multiple deployments. Keep up the good work, and don't get your fingers pinched when closing the ramp.

Good luck on the upcoming deployment man. I feel your pain on not ever seeing your family together, i joined the Marines at 17 and my sister was already in the USAF. Since 2003 my parents, sister and i have only been together three times. One funeral, one wedding and one Xmas. Damn deployments! Stay safe man.

Nothing wrong with being "in the rear with gear" because that gear saves many others' rears. 8)
Still, be safe and watch your six. No matter where you are, it's still Afghanistan. Many thanks to you and your little bro for your service. God bless ya. Last edited by krisjon; 04-30-2012 at 2:11 PM.. |

that sucks, we are deploying as well. i was also reading as of this month that deployments have been reduced to 9 months for us with no r&r, but supposedly its not branch wide, just certain mos i guess. like i said in another thread, im sure my unit will still continue to deploy after 2014.

Last time we had 2 cops that were playing a "game" like 'do you think I'll do it?' (Point weapons at eachother/pull trigger). Well 1 guy took 5.56 to the knee cap/down his leg. The SF guy that shot was of course locked up and escorted home by guard, headed to leavenworth or one of the prisons we have... Last deployment was just under 200 days, so about the same as last time. They rush to get us in there but take their sweet time getting us back home. We expect 6-8 months... Quote:

Thank you for your service! I know how deployments get! Been through a few myself. I got a brother and sister in the service both of whom just got back from their respective deployments (Army/Air Force). Wish you and your brother safe passage!

Thanks, not quite a loadmaster. I stay on the ground and assist the loadmaster with the upload/downloads. Get to drive all the cool stuff on and off, move the people and all the supplies they need. Luckily my job is very rewarding when deployed whether it be sending people home to be with their families or sending out ammo to those who need it or loading air drop bundles to those who dont have an airstrip close by. Thanks for everything, I'm less than 10 days from redeploying. Feels good, almost there! |

AF Security Forces / MPs are good in my book, they ran all kinds of security and what-not at Camp Bucca in I-Raq. Duties in Kuwait, astan and elsewhere.
THE SUCK IS THE SUCK, REGARDLESS OF UNIFORM, MOS OR DUTIES... JUST MY .02 - EMBRACE THE SUCK !!!! ... and I have been volunteering (to deploy again) monthly for well over three years to no avail. I reckon the good lord, or the Naval Reserve sees fit not to?
