Default mosin target match JULY 28

a few of us have been thinking of putting a mosin match together. so here goes.
place west end gun club [ lytle creek private gun club] not the other public lytle creek range farther up the road.
time 8-9 AM Sunday july 28
Membership not needed, one time guest 10 bucks

how about 3 classes
1. mosin with scope
2. mosin without scope
3. all other military wood and steel rifles.. M1, Mauser etc.
lets keep it simple, bring your target [ target frames provided free]. we will take over about 5-7 stands all to ourselves and have some fun. lets keep score but no awards. surplus magnetic ammo friendly range. we will be shooting at 100 yards. do not be intimidated [ i am not a great shooter myself]. i am not a great organizer so lets keep it simple and FUN. PM me with a ph # if you want to add your 2c.

Just for clarification we can bring any type of Mosin right? Not just limited to a 91/30

I'll be there for sure, I'll also bring a few people with me.

I'd also suggest awards based on the amount of people, we can make it fun like it's 10 rounds of 7.62x54 to enter the match. Winner gets 60%, 2nd place gets %30% thuird place get's their rounds back. Just something to make it fun

all surplus rifles welcome. but m-44 and m 91-30 with scope one class and one same without scope.

sounds good to me. this is not a public range, each member can have a few guests for 10 bucks each. if a pack of non members show up and only me as a member somebody might have to buy a 1 year limited membership for 50 bucks. they are pretty lax on this, one time i brought 4 guests without a problem. this range does not fill up. so i think they will be happy to get the 10 bucks each. go to their web sight for MAP. this is a very well run range, you will like it.

Damn, I can't do that weekend. I have my son and his mom is going to be out of town. Maybe it is time to bring my 4 year old out to the range.

Interesting. I have a few "open class" M39's that I could take for a spin. Could you please put me in as tentative.

HEard back

Quote:
Dear *****,
Sunday morning, July 28th there are 2 matches scheduled in the back ranges. This is normally where we reserve bays for Annual members who have more than the three guests allowed by club policy. Applications to start this process are available at the Main Range from our range staff.

However, in your case, this will not be helpful for you on the 28th. The range staff has the authority to solve issues like hosting more than the 3 guests per Annual member policy at the Main Range. Using/renting 5 lanes on the rifle side of the Main Range for a few hours on a Sunday morning is possible, however we need more precise information in order to try and accommodate your needs.

The total number of shooters and guests, how many are Limited or Annual members, etc. Please get back to me with this information, a contact phone number and time to best reach you and I will call you to go over your options.
Best regards, Bruce *****, President, WEGC
If we can get an accurate count of people I can start getting this scheduled.

I'd also need to know who will be attending and who is a limited and who is a full member.

YOU DO NOT NEED TO BE A MEMBER TO ATTEND

Thanks for looking into this Baboosh and NOTABIKER.

I might be down to attend even though I don't have a Mosin. I'll have to bring my carbine, but should still be a good time.

I would like to attend. If there is room for one more. I am not a member.
Can I shoot in more than one class? I would like to shoot my scoped M38 mosin and also maybe my iron sites 91/30. It is just so hard to choose.

Please send details as to time, etc, as I would love to come shoot and hang out with some Mosin folks. I think I bought some PPU ammo from notabiker before.

so far nobody has asked me to be my guest, 10 bucks you are my guest. official opening time is 8 am. every time i go their things are already in full swing at 8 AM.
it will be fun but keep your expectations low. this is the first time and we all are just shooters trying to have fun. too many classes might get to complicated.
1. mosin no scope ,surplus ammo from bench
2. mosin scope , surplus ammo from bench
3. other than mosin wood and steel WW1 up bolt and simi auto, from bench,
how does that sound ?.

I have a feeling this is going to grow and I hope it does, now I just need to figure out if I am going to shoot the Garand or the Mauser in the Other category.

Do we need easy ups, extra tables, ice chest full of drinks? I can provide logistic within reason.

All of the shooting positions are covered so EZ ups are not really needed plus people park right behind the shooting stations so there may not be room for them, unless you want to make some shade in the back of your truck. There are benches/tables pretty much the whole length of the shooting area and you can back your truck up to behind your shooting station for extra storage room. On the back benches there are wooden rifle stands that can accommodate up to 8 rifles I believe so if we had 6 or 7 shooting positions a good 3 or 4 of those gun stands would come with it.

Are we allowed to BBQ in the parking area of the main range?

So I went to the west end website and read about the memberships.

I see the limited memberships and the full memberships. It looks like anybody can be a limited member and shoot at the range. Is that correct? I did not see a limit as to how many times you could visit the range.

Looks like a full membership is kinda hard to get though.

I see the limited memberships and the full memberships. It looks like anybody can be a limited member and shoot at the range. Is that correct? I did not see a limit as to how many times you could visit the range.

Looks like a full membership is kinda hard to get though.
Limited is Friday through Sunday excluding holidays and only when a range officer is there.

Oh I'm bringing a Mosin too haha, I just can't decide on which one of my "Other" guns I am going to shoot in the "Other Category". Maybe some day there will be a separate semi-auto and bolt action categories. SKS' vs AK's vs M1's etc and Mauser's vs 03A3's vs Enfield's and so.
