Default 600 yds - Ruger Precision Rifle in 6.5CM

I'm completely new to long range and will likely never compete, but I'll share my foray to 600 yds, which is the limit of my local range.

RPR in 6.5cm, Hornady 140gr ELD-M factory. Bench, bipod, craptasitic home-made mono-pod on the rear.

About 100 rounds down the barrel, most at 100 yards.

For reference, the red circle is 10". There are a couple of old hits on the target I colored in in black. The very high bright hits are mine. Strelok had me at 4.25 milliradians. I dialed back to 3.3 mil and was basically on the bull. I own all the horizontal stringing (and, of course, most of the vertical).

For video, I'm using some FPV drone components. On my cheap Walmart spotting scope, I mount a CCD camera attached to a FPV transmitter. The receiver is a FPV receiver specifically made to connect to android phones via micro-usb. I need to work on video quality, but not bad for a first try. I want to get to 1000 yds before I move from the California desert and have limited choices.

The video doesn't seem to work. Here is a direct link... [edit] figured out the video thing...]

That gun is shooting well if the red circle is 10 inches

Nice work. Take it out to 800 plus and 600 yards will seem like a cake walk.

Find me 800 yards of safe space. Preferably 1000 yds.

I think I've found a 1000 yd spot. If I have time, I'll go take a look this weekend.

We will have a 1200 yard station running Friday at SSZS which is in Barstow. During the event Saturday there is a 850 yard line.

Barstow is close enough. What is this SSZS and what events and how might I come and play?

Having some experts around me would be fairly useful.

I am by no means an expert but I get on steel there without a problem.

OH! That thing. Heard about it, don't keep it in the front of my mind.

I happen to have a kitchen pass for Friday/Saturday. Sunday I'm cooking breakfast for a couple hundred folks, so that doesn't work.

Let me think about it.

Nice shooting! I also have the Ruger in 6.5 and that thing literally shoots itself. Glad to see you’re getting the same experience as I am.

Thanks.

Does anyone know what is up with Strelok not being correct in ballistics? I don't think Strelok is in error as it roughly matches on-line calculators.

If you post your inputs and where they came from, it should be straight forward to figure out. The conditions, velocity, BC and it's standard (G1 or G7).

Could you post a link or name for that micro USB receiver? Any details on the camera? I've thought about setting up something similar and am curious which lens worked with the spotting scope.

I think he is using the camerafi2 app running on an android phone to capture streaming video from an FPV camera connected with an OTG cable. Here is the video to USB converter

Here is the camera from the camerafi store.

You just need a way to fabricate a barrel clamp to attach the camera to your scope...

This is the benchmark FPV camera

Cheers,

You were good this far. Hardware is different.

I have a different thread up in "General" about ballistics. More info up there.

I was wondering when someone would be interested in the video tech instead of the actual shoot.

I'm probably going to do a little write up on the camera system. It will take a day or two. I'll bring it to the SSZS as well, provided I don't change plans.

The system is super-trailer parkish.

I’d be interested in hearing more about the video tech. I’ve been dabbling in digiscoping for the same reason. I’ve used a spotting scope, universal phone mount and an iPhone 6 from the firing line / bench. Been decent out to 400 yards seeing splashes on steel. Nothing close to the detail you have on that 10” circle target at raw capture.

Thanks

I made a new post for the video scope system... Needs some fine tuning, but it works.
