Who has a Vortex Strikefire - Questions for you
I picked up a Vortex Strikefire Red/Green dot on sale from a PSA daily deal for a little over a hundred bucks shipped. I received it and the dot appeared to be more of a small blob and not very solid. PSA took it back no questions asked and sent me a new one before I even sent back the old one. I received the replacement and it looks the same.
I had several people look at it and they say the same thing. Is this just the way they are or what? On a side note how do you like it? I know the controls are kind of odd, but how is it holding up? |

You probably returned a Strikefire that had nothing wrong with it. They are good optics and a great value at that price point. If you want something nicer spend more money.

I have a Vortex Sparc now and I like it better than the Strikefire. Neither compares to my Aimpoint Pro but they were less than half the price.

It is solid, and will stand up to plenty of abuse. If I had any gripe with the Vortex the mounting screws get chewed up if you aren't careful. Either hand tighten only or use something that won't chew upthe bolts.

Mine looks like a few dots close together, especially if I have it set a bit too bright. I've been told this is mainly due to astigmatism. I just use it as if it was a bigger MOA dot.
My Sightron is crisper.

If you're looking thru your optic with uncorrected eyeballs, especially astigmatism, it does a great job of blurring and doubling any reticle. My EOTech reticles look like poo without my specs. Wearing your prescription will help. Keep the dot brightness to just what is needed to be useable and that should go a long way to improve the dot's appearance.

The strikefire works fine in the sun. I don't have one but I have shot rifles with the strikefire on it in multiple occasions. I have astigmatism and the weird thing is that looking through a RDS indoors vs outdoors is completely different. When I looked through Aimpoints and the Strikefire indoors I saw sunburst but when I look through them outdoors they look like perfectly round dots.

When I first got my strike fire I noticed that the dot was a little oblong. When my wife looked through it she didn't see what I was seeing. I called Vortex and the first thing they asked me was "do you have an astigmatism". I do, and was told that, that can affect the shape of the dot. I posted about this here and a number of people verified that the problem might very well be my astigmatism. Especially since the dot look fine to my wife.

I've got both the Strikefire and the Sparc red dots and have no complaints. For the money, they're tough to beat. The dot does get a bit of a burst on the brighter settings though, but i never run them that high anyway. Both hold zero well, even after re-mounting and thousands of rounds.

I thought mine was defective as well. So i took a cellphone picture and it looked perfect, complete opposite of what I was seeing.
Also had kids look and it was round to them. Guess it's just my old eyes. Funny, but my Aimpoint didn't seem messed up by my astigmatism |

there is a great likelihood it is your eyes and not the sight.
for diagnostics, look through the eyepiece. Rotate while looking through the eyepiece. If the abnormality twists when rotating the sight then the sight is bad. If the abnormality stays the same when rotating then it is your eyes. Many people go lifetimes without being diagnosed with astigmatism |
