Default Shipping guns via USPS

Been using Fed ex and UPS without any problems. I received a handgun the other day through USPS. Is this legal for us dealers and if so are there any special steps we need to do to use USPS? When I went to the post office to speak to a rep, they told me only long guns.

Thanks!

USPS is allowed for dealer to dealer shipments, including handguns. There is a USPS form that needs to be filled out and accompany the shipment. I forget the form number but it is easily found by searching the USPS website.

Every handgun we have ever shipped has gone USPS with Stamps.com insurance with no losses. The only hassle is having to take every form 1508 along with that day's shipment to the post office for signature with ever present glacial lines. When we first started doing this the clerks didn't know what the form 1508 was and demanded we leave the premises. Discussion with a manager cleared this up. Still, on occasion, a newb clerk will not know what the form is. It's fun to see reaction from the other clients in line when one of the other "experienced" clerks yells to the newb "THATS FOR A FIREARM".
