For that price you could get a brand new Ruger 10/22 with a decent scope or a Marlin Model 60. Both are reliable and accurate guns, with many accessories available.

Ruger 10/22, it's all you need.

I think everyone in America should own and shoot a 10/22. They're simple to work on, accurate, easy to modify with tons of options and a blast to shoot. That being said the
Marlin 795 is also a great little gun.

That's a good price. The T/C 55 is an excellent rifle, always accurate but of course not much by way of add ons. Steel receiver and the barrrel is threaded not clamped/press fit. I'd snag it in a heartbeat at that price. I'm buying one from the Kittery Trading post on line, it's the laminated target version with a "throwaway" scope for about $80.00 more.

I have a Ruger 10/22 Target, bought it about 5 years back. I like it, did some add ons for convenience and accuracy to include an expensive barrel. I'd take the T/C over it by way of quality, I wouldn't buy the new 10/22s with all the plastic parts, matte painted type finish.

The TC R55 semi 22 is an excellent rifle and it will be a collector someday. The entire rifle is made out of steel not like my 10/22 Aluminum receiver

What Viper49 said +1, i got a chance to fire this rifle and it was awesome.
I think the mags will be an issue, kinda pricey, but it is a well made rifle
