I really like my Ruger 22/45. It's 5.5 in. bull barrel and it just feels right when I aim it. The weight of the barrel balances the gun quite nicely.

Plinking, S&W 22A with 7" barrel. And like some .22 pistols, it's only as trouble free as the ammo you feed it. Ranging from pretty good for bulk stuff to perfect results with anything from the clear plastic box with the sliding lid. I have a very early version and my buddy Mark just bought one a month ago. Both reacted almost the same to ammo choice and accuracy. And they are so fun to shoot!

Yes , those S&W22A are good pistol to shoot, my is a 4 inches that had more than 30,000 plus rounds through the pistol and had made on trip back to Smith for a broken firing pin at 20,000 plus rounds. It all pay for by S&W. They back up there pistol.

Ruger Sr22. I've had mine for about 3 months, shot about 800 rounds through it and have had no issues. Also good for wife/girlfriend.

Second this. You can almost get two for $500. Love my 22/45, it is highly accurate out to 50 yards. I have not really tested it beyond that distance.

I have a mosquito as well. I was worried about all the bad reviews I've read, but went ahead and bought it anyway. I was never fond of how other 22 pistols looked, but loved how the mosquito is based off of the p226. After changing to the lighter spring that was included, I've had no issues. I'm regularly using remington golden bullets and it feeds and ejects just fine.

Another vote for the Ruger Mark x series.
I have a Mark II with bull barrel that has well over 15,000 flawless rounds eating anything.
I've plinked, shot matches, etc.
All around awesome 22.

I have owned 3 of the Ruger Mark III series (22/55, Hunter, and the stainless 5.5" target) and shot thousands of rounds through them with little to no failures with all types of cheap 22lr bulk ammo even with the notorious garbage Remington Golden Bullets. If you want reliability that pretty much shoots all type of 22lr thats under $500 then look no further and get a Ruger MKII or MKIII.

My Walther P22 has been by far the worst handgun I have ever owned and now I hear the slides can crack in addition to the feeding woes. After some tweaking over the years trouble-shooting it and using only CCI Minimags it can be fun at the range these days, but I have never had a more accurate or reliable .22 than my Ruger MKII Gov Target. They are awesome. I am planning on buying an SR22 soon as well.

As others said. Browning Buckmark or Ruger 22/45.. Although you'll hate the first time you takedown the ruger to clean.. But it's a tank, I've shot over 10k rounds and no issues yet.. Let us know what you get and we can help with the add-on's later..

Is it one magazine that is giving you issues? The P22 bible is extremely helpful, post any problems on the Walther forums, and M1911 (user there) will walk you through the fix.

1GT is right the Mark 3 is one .22 you aren't likely to be disappointed with. And with some upgrades, they are pretty amazing shooters. Here are a couple of mine:



He's also right in saying that they are a PAIN to break down at first, but once you get used to it, they aren't too bad.

If you look hard you can get close to that with price with a used 17-9 S&W. Will not find anything more reliable. :-) I have a K-22 that this model is based upon. Sweeeet trigger on SA. Straight out of the box Smith and Wesson guaranteed it will shoot 1.5 inch groups at 50yards. Not too shabby.

I love my S&W 22A. Accurate and a great shooter. Only issue I have with it is the it is a little picky on ammo.

S&w 22A / hope you don't mind send it in every few k rds for a cracked frame. Just got mine back and re DROSed it yesterday after waiting 2 months I found out it sat in Maine's vault for a month and customer service never contacted me for my FFL.

S&W 22A worst pos I have ever owned. Felt like an airsoft gun and jammed more than a Hi-Point. I now have a Ruger Mark III. Never had a problem although a huge bloody knuckle pain in the ***** to break down for cleaning.

I have the polymer lower version of this. Was a lil cheaper. But it's never jammed once, even with your basic 22lr value pack ammo. Reliable out of the box since day 1 for me.
