Default Odds of getting CCW at 21? (Sac County)

Hey everyone, new to this forum!

I was wondering if anyone has had experience with getting their CCW permit right after turning 21 or would they think you're too "immature". I am turning 21 at the end of this year and I am looking to apply for my CCW in Sacramento county shortly after. I have a clean record and nothing that should disqualify me. I am just worried they will deny me because I am requesting one so quickly after I turn 21.

What do you guys think?

Clean record is key, you should be fine. Do your homework and make sure everything is in order. Sac seems to like to send people back to the back of the line if they don't have their "i's" dotted and their "t's" crossed.

If you meet the requirements and aren't a prohibited person then why not? It shouldn't make any difference if you are 21 or 71. Of course this being California we must apply common sense and reason very sparingly...

Wasn't a probably (Placer County though). The interviewer tried to throw in a trick question about CCW on campus because I was still in school at the time but I wouldn't be too concerned. Just be honest, polite, and do a bit of research before. Having everything else done before that you possibly can do (livescan, class, all paperwork, etc.) will go a long way with them.

Give it a shot (no pun intended) As long as you have no booze issues and have a reason then at least apply. Like the posting said above, worst case is your out $20.

I would say that if you have a clean record, go for it. The Livescan has been the biggest hold up for most applicants, up to 6 months, and depending on your system interviews can be a few months out. You don't get your approval from the interview, that is a total package. Fill out the application entirely, take your course, and do your livescan. The interviewer will likely look favorably on being prepared and you will abbreviate the wait after the interview for the CCW to be issued.

I'm 25 and have my permit, so don't let age be the factor of starting the process. If you have a clean record, are a sound individual, then go for it.

Agreed if your record isn't spotless but if you know your record is clean and you're sure you won't have any problems, I would do the Live scan ASAP.

In CA, the minimum age for CCW is 18. Many states are 21.

I applied when I was 20. When I dropped off the app, a detective came out and starting asking me how I could apply without being able to purchase a handgun. I explained to him how I legally own the guns listed on my application. He then questioned how I would buy ammo for the guns, so I asked him how long the process would take to get my permit. After he said it would be at least 6 months (which I already knew) I told him I would be 21 by then so it wouldn't be an issue. It was a little strange that he seemed unaware of the intra-familial transfer process.

At my interview, a different detective made the remark that my background check was very easy since I had such a short (and clean) history to go through. I asked if there were many people my age getting permits and he said there was a girl in her early 20's who had just gotten her permit before me.

Being young certainly has a stigma attached to it, but its' up to you to show maturity and responsibility. Legally, your age is no longer a factor. I would be prepared to answer questioned about carrying and college campuses, especially if your a student.

Age a factor? No. I was 22 when I received mine.
