Default GCA Video of CMP Philippine Garands

The Garand Collectors Association just released a new video with a glimpse of the huge new batch of Philippine M1 Garands returned to the CMP recently.

It appears that the GCA did not anticipate the traffic this might generate as the site has been crashed or slow all afternoon. Once the dust settles, check out the video and consider joining this fine organization if you have not already:

They do look pretty rough. I might be interested in a Winchester or an IHC, or both.

Those painful looking rifles have come to a good home. They will be refurbished, rebuilt, restocked and sold to a US Citizen grateful to hold a piece of US Military History in their hands.

Some might just be torn down for parts, some will look brand new when they're sold. Bunches will be in excellent working order and look just as they did when they went into a warehouse 70 years ago.

Excellent video. Fascinating for anyone interested in the CMP and Garands.

No, but here's a bunch of people asking the same questions that you do.

This will take a while for the CMP to refurbish and sell, but more Garands to be distributed out to the population is a good thing.

So based on my math, it cost the CMP about $60 per rifle to get them delivered.

I'm thinking 1 million bucks to throw a termite tent over a building full a rifles is a bit steep.

But maybe I'm missing something here.

Some of them look really nice and some look rusted out. What is the CMP currently sending out? I know they have been selling a lot of Turkish returns, are they sending out anything from any other countries? Have the Garands from US forces dried up already? I can't watch the video with sound right now, does it say when the Philippine rifles are expected?

The video did not indicate any estimated time frame for them to be up for sale. By the way it’s Garand itch, not garland.

The CMP has a grading criteria on their website, they send out rifles based on that criteria. They arent going to send you a nonfunctional rust bucket and call it a service grade.

All these Garands were from "US forces". After the war they were sent to other countries for their use. Every CMP Garand is a genuine USGI rifle. It may not be perfectly correct, but too bad tough titty they were used in a really big war called WWII and Korea not to mention any number of other conflicts throught history.

Pretty sure the CMP has been sending out rifles that were returns for at least a decade. This is nothing new. Its simply the nature of the program.
