Default In the beginning...

I thought someone should post a pic of the first successful auto-loader/semi-auto center fire rifle. John M. Browning registered the patent in 1900 for a long-recoil auto-loading rifle. Remington built it as the Model 8. In 1936, I believe, they introduced the Model 81 with redesigned stocks and some minor improvements. This is a pic of my recently acquired Model 81 built in 1938.

Stock models have a 5 round fixed mag. A detachable extended mag was available for LEO use. At least one of the stock 8 or 81's was used in Frank Hamer's ambush of Bonnie & Clyde along with another J.M. Browning design, the BAR.
