Default 100 hour candles for cheap

It’s a basic $1 store candle stick in a mason jar of crisco, but damn it works.
Here’s a video link.

Why not just use parafin? And save the Crisco for a Crisco Party.

Most any household grease or oil will make a "candle".

I prefer a vigil/prayer candle in a jar for light/bang/$ efficiency. Case of them for $12. (12/case)
I get 80 - 90 hrs / candle. (indoors use)

Kerosene has always worked for me and its way cheaper the Crisco.

Why make this tougher than it needs to be. Not sure it would be a good idea to burn cooking grease, you might need it.

I neglected to build the reservoir around the candle (After the crisco solidifies-dig a trench around the wick)... Candle flame went out after about 24 hours...

or grow olives and press to make olive oil to eat, lubricate and burn for light.

grow and press and repeat... worked for several thousand years.

time to pick up some olive trees to grow up near your mountain cabin.

Burn olive oil in a regular Kerosene lamp

I buy these at the $.99 store, I love them and have 100 of them. I leave the wrapping with the Saints on the candle - I figure if I need an emergency candle I'll need all the help I can get.

For the exact same price per hour you can get 100 tea lights from Ikea. $3.99 for 100.

That's $.04 each for 4 hours of light. 100/4 hours = 25 tea lights. At $.04 each that's exactly $1.

The benefit of tea lights is you have the opportunity to use more of them if you need them. And with less glass they weight less.

The downside is once they've been burning for a while tea lights are useless if you put them out and try to relight them. You use them fully up or not, which is why I like the 4 hour time frame personally.

Of course none of that matters if there is a gas leak after an earth quake and you cannot burn anything. Then off to the flashlights we go.

YMMV.

Being patient helps too, I snagged a few today in the clearance rack at Ralph's that were .79 each.
