Default Wow. Cabelas is just about gone and nobody has said anything about it yet.

I heard it on the news a few weeks ago and never saw much about it.

Apparently Brass Pro Shops has purchased them for about 5.5 Billion.

So kiss all of the cool stuff goodbye unless they allow them to keep their branding. I just can't help but think that soon I will be getting nothing but Brass Pro Shops catalogs in the mail...

There's been all kinds of talk, speculation, and strategizing going on since the news broke months ago.
Where have you been?

Since the approval just went through, I have been here and a few other places and saw nothing about it.

Usually all of the drama queens would have been out by now moaning and making sure the topic stayed at the top of the first page in all of the forums...

Hey, I never start stuff, I just jump in and make others cry harder... I can't help it if there are a bunch of hipster for parents drinking sissies running around here.

And while we are talking about crying, half the stuff I say is misread by that Kestryll guy. I have demanded to speak to his boss on several occasions and have gotten nobody. I tried calling calguns and the line was disconnected. It is one thing for that guy to not get my humor, but another for him to step on my 1st amendment right as a US citizen and delete my posts and ban me for stupid things that the crybabies all take the wrong way... The boss of Calguns should be ashamed of himself!

Now if you will excuse me, I need to get back to cleaning the MP4, I was going to take it out to Reseda and ask the guy with the truck where he gets all of his Calguns stuff ...

Cabelas, Gander Mountain and Bass Pro Shops are all the same--a three headed hydra.

The Gander up in Palm Beach recently closed and the two BRS in Miami and Dania Beach are fairly overpriced for what I can get locally. The Dania Bch. BRS does have decent reloading stuff, but back well before Obama and Sandy Hook, they were gouging things like $29 cans of powder and $50 cartons of primers, so screw them.

They're interesting places to walk around at, to kill 30 minutes, but they ALL are woefully overpriced IMO.

Chris

Last I had heard the deal was stalled despite having been announced as "done" several times. I dont think the deal will get done, as Bass Pro has its own issues to deal with and adding Cabelas does nothing to help them.

Gander Mountain was bought by the guy who turned Camping World around. It is rumored that the will be keeping 75 of the existing stores and potentially adding some "Overtons"- Ganders marine branding- stores into the chain, which I perceive as an effort to go after the market Bass Pro has pretty locked up.

I was talking to the manager at the Cabelas in Sidney, NE (corporate headquarters) about this not to long ago. (They had a "now hiring" sign up)
He said the only thing really changing, product-wise, will be in the fishing dept.

Fishing wise - the only thing I [ wife ] buys is the braided line [ she ties the plants with it and wants color real close ] This is fine , go look at fish when done , I will be in reloading section .
Fishing around here stopped for me years ago when they said the mercury count is to high . No real time . Nephews / nieces got old enough to go to range. Set on bank and feed mositqos or reload .
Boat is setting at my brothers house

Just as a side note that would be an excellent way to kill the competition, pay someone high up in the chain to issue a statement like that and bam company dies....ive often wondered if things have progressed to that level yet.

As an Apple stockholder, I wish someone would pay Tim Cook to STFU.

My understanding is that the Cabelas brand will remain. They have great customer service, and if you pay attention, some good deals, and lots of discounted gift cards on eBay. The real question is, will they have to start charging CA sales tax after/if/when the merger finalizes?

Corporate Sabotage.

And the geniuses at CG reloading sub forum figured it out faster than those brainiacs at 4chan...

I'm still surprised that bass pro bought em. I thought it'd be the other way around. I've been to both stores in multiple states and everytime I'm in a bass pro shop I can't stop thinking how much it sucks compared to Cabela's.

I was at this store last week and the info is still the same.
They just completed a new corporate office complex on site.
Bought a Caldwell chronograph from the bargain cave, $55.

Bass Pro has purchased Cabela's but they are keeping both brand names and merchandise. You shouldn't see any changes other than good. If you were a Cabela's Club member, you now get benefits at Bass Pro.

Corporate buyouts and market consolidation are always good for the consumer.

California sales tax is definitely not good.

Not sure where you got your Econ PhD, but actually, yes, consolidation can be very good for the consumer. A larger company can have greater pricing power from suppliers and shippers, and other economies of scale. See: Walmart, Amazon. Good or bad for consumer pricing?

Of course, once consolidation approaches monopoly, YMMV.

Anyway, looks like that Stilly was obnoxious enough to get banned, but his thread lives on...

I am in the bay area and I don't know if Cabela's is in Calif . I don't expect to pay Calif tax in Reno , but they also have a sales tax .
In Reno [ Boomtown ] the lines are shorter and the people don't act like yesterday they were selling burgers . But , I am lucky to make it there 2 or 3 times a year .
In 2018 maybe it will be more .
