Default Trust nobody at the range

I left my stall to make a quick run to the restroom, came back and all my pmc 223 ammo was gone/stolen.

Make a note to never let your eyes leave your guns or accesories, and take it with you if you have to go somewhere.

Just WRONG! Times have really changed. No respect for others, or themselves. Shame a guy has to pack up all his gear if it is out of your line of sight. Hope Karma and bad juju finds this guy.

Sorry to hear that! If alone at the range, I always make sure to use the bathroom first. If with others. We use the buddy system.

Hadn't thought much about it before, but does metcalf have cameras? If not, they should get them.

I worked on cruise ships for 3 1/2 years, and it never ceased to amaze me where/when/what people would steal. Stupidest person I ever heard of: someone MUGGED another guest in the casino onboard! Ships have TONS of cameras, but guess where they have the most?????

Sorry for your loss. I shoot at Metcalf. Luckily, I never go alone, so someone can watch the guns/ammo when the other has to step away.

someone should make stealing illegal. That would put a stop to it.

Why would you trust anyone at the range? What makes you think they are any different from anyone on the streets? just cause they are gun owners?

Sorry to hear. When I'm at the range I leave nothing out nor would I leave anything at a table behind me that I can't keep my eyes on.

If I was in your situation I would ask the range master to keep an eye out and tip him.

For me at ASR I put everything up at the table where i'm shooting. and when they call cease fire and I go adjust my targets I know my items are safe because if anyone approaches the table the range master will yell "BEHIND THE YELLOW LINE"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm just shocked how people just leave their guns on the back table unattended where someone could quickly walk by and snatch a rifle up.

This. I used to frequent ASR and that would keep my mind at ease. I've also wondered if I shouldn't leave my rifles in that back table but there was no other option as the rifle tables were too crowded already with ammo and my current rifle. A lot of people seem to leave their rifles on the back tables as well, but maybe because they're usually shooting with lots of friends.

Sorry to hear about that, it sucks. I always leave ammo and my gun out at the range, even when I go to use the restroom or go to the front to talk to the employees, haven't had any issues so far.

Always felt that there was a certain amount of respect/camaraderie from common love of a simple hobby, but maybe I'm just being naive and should really keep my eyes on my stuff more often.

Thank God it was ammo and not a firearm though. Not saying it was "just" ammo, but just thankful that this story wasn't a whole lot worse than it already is.

Is there no video camera in the range? I know my local range has camera's all over the place. Might want to ask to see if they can review footage.

Sux. I always hate going to the range alone fearing someone could swipe my guns while I'm 200 yards down range. Hopefully they get AIDS and cancer and live forever.

Definately report it to the range master.
Ask if they may have footage of the theft.
Get that scum bag arrested and convicted of the crime.
Maybe is was Diane Feinstein or Barbie doll.

Yeah, there's some pretty sketchy looking characters shooting at Metcalf at times. I rarely leave my stuff, but only during a cease fire and I usually strike up a conversation with the people around me. They'll usually keep an eye your stuff and you can use common sense to determine if you'll ask them to do that.
Odds are if they did it to you they probably are repeat offenders and will get busted eventually.

That's amazing. I was thinking to myself "there's no way it would be metcalf, they are too civilized there". I shoot there more than anywhere else. Hell, I've left guns and equipment on the pistol side and walked over to the steels or rifle side....

Never had a problem. Sad to think that that is not because of the clientèle, but rather due to luck. I'd much rather think good on people.

sad. Very sad.

And metcalf or no, I know for a fact every other gun range round here is worse. That makes this story that much worse.

This is sad. Review the footage, hell post it on here for all the people that use that range to see who the thief is.

Bummer.
Maybe next time someone else just might water the horse on the left side of the 25 yard line while keeping his ammo in sight.

That is complete BS man - Nobody deserves that. Come down to Sunnyvale RGC Tuesday 4/16 (if available) and I'll give you a few boxes of .223 to help replace what was stolen. I know ammo is scarce right now and I'd like to help a fellow Bay Area shooter out.
