Sucks to hear about the theft of your property. What a bunch of low life scum bags. That's no better than someone stealing your just opened or half finished beer while you go to the head. And that's happened to me before.
Let's use this as a reminder, take care of your own s#*t or someone else will (no fault of OP, just a lessons learn for all of us). Last edited by kdruff2; 04-13-2013 at 1:19 PM.. |

No cameras there I believe, at least none that cover the shooting tables. Jerry is the main man out there and deceptively observant. Him or one of his guys may have caught a whiff of somebody acting strange. Have you spoke with them yet?

Sorry to hear that went on at your range. I'd report it immediately to the management and next time take a table closest to the range master so he may help you keep an eye on it. Mail Clerk |

theft
Yeah, I know. I would rather piss my pants than leave my gear unattended among like minded firearm enthusiasts. Specially if it's at a reputable range.

I suppose I have been lucky. At Burro Canyon I have often left my stuff and gone to the can. Everything is always there when I return.
Perhaps the thief will have his gun stolen. That would be karma! |

Shot at Metcalf today, behind me in line while paying were 2 FBI agents...they were asking to talk to the Rangemaster.
No clue what the agents wanted, but it was hilarious that the 2 guys behind them in line heard the agents ask to speak to the Rangemaster...and they said they would come back another day and left. The agents waited till my party of 3 were done paying, and then they got to talk to the Rangemaster...I didnt see when they left but they were long gone after we were done shooting in a couple of hours. |

I had someone steel my homemade pvc target stands at Burrow Canyon. I had disassembled them and sat them aside while I was putting the rifles in the car. Times must be pretty tough when you have to steel $20 worth of pvc at the range.

How many rounds were stolen? If it was 500, file a police report. If it was 20 rounds, it's a lesson learned, and a good one.
With the number of children around the ranges in Sac, no one should leave a firearm unattended. And now ammo is so expensive, I'd at least lock in in my range bag at my feet. I know for a fact that someone took a brand new rifle, new in box, never fired off a large and busy range last weekend. You can't rely on the people beside you to watch your stuff. They're busy. Sorry this happened, but it's a lesson to all of us.

Stuff gets stolen off tables at gunshows while the owner is 3 feet away, and incredible as it may seem (I know some folks will find this hard to believe) sometimes even cops steal stuff!
Trust no one! |

Sorry to hear that misfortunate event. I hope the person who stole your item would get a bad karma.
Anyways, lesson learned. Use the buddy system next time you go out to shoot.

I had a buddy this happened to. This is how he remedied the situation.
He hand loaded a "special" 223 round. He knows which one it is and never shoots it but has it in every box of ammo he takes to the range. If anyone ever steals his ammo they are in for a big surprise. Because he loaded the "special" 223 round with Bullseye powder. This round will destroy any AR. |

At ASR they yell at you if you try to walk in the office with a case on your back. People leave them on the floor outside. I never do this. I pay then go back to my car to retrieve my stuff.
I also do what others mentioned. Keep all my junk on the front table. Although there is some good people at the range I have seen quite a few undesirable's there if I was judging a book by its cover. |

Load up some 5.56 using pistol powder... Wait for the kaboom and the confusion of the perpetrator when he finds out his rifle is totalled.

Ugh...I'm really sorry to hear about that. I hope Karma is swift and painful to those punks. I used to shoot there almost every week when I lived in San Jose and the regulars would look out for each other, lend equipment, etc. Thanks for the heads up...I'll be more vigilant now.

Kinda reminds me of someone that was stealing gum out of my desk.
I got the gum and rubbed it ALL OVER my junk. A couple days later it was missing. I then left a note in my desk indicating what I had done, and asking if it tasted good. I know, I know. Cool Story Bro............

This is a good idea!
Put 5 rounds in a retail box. Leave on bench. I will use unique. I hope this makes a good Kaboom! I know times are tough but stealing is not accepted. . |

I always shoot with a buddy and when I do not I am always looking over my shoulder. I like the Riverside Magnum Range. They are good folks there. Get a reloader to make some dummy rounds that are double charged and coat the tips a certain color (pink or purple) and keep them with your stuff. Then remember to never shoot them but leave them out for easy grabbings (in a bag) and then whoever is the thief and snatches might just get what they deserve and maybe they will learn the hard way later down the line. +1 We really do need to make that illegal to steal. THAT would stop it completely!

Sorry to hear, my family shoots there frequently.
Have you told the range master and other staff who was around at the time?

You'd think that with all the legal liability potential at a range, they would have cameras all over to cover their rears.

Gun people, and I mean real gun people. Not the "I bought an AR-15 cause it's popular and am gonna use it to justify the cost jajaja" people, but real salt of the earth gun people, they take care of their own. (range) Liability is not a problem at a range that caters to gun people.
And though I agree with milw 100%, "golly officer, those rounds are perfectly safe in my bull barrel large ring bolt rifle, only an idiot would use those rounds in a service rifle! ..... Why, is someone hurt?" |

That is crap. Sorry, mate. It is a shame that you can't trust fellow shooters. I hear about horror stories with guns and ammo getting stolen. I always worry about it.

I typically leave my stuff out on the table behind me while shooting. But this experience by the OP has taught me a lesson and I will not be doing that any more. It just sucks when you can't just run to take a piss and not have to worry about your stuff getting stolen. I've had to leave my guns out on the table outside of the front desk to check in, because they won't allow any guns in the office even if they are locked up in the case at Angeles. Will have to keep everything locked up in the car until I'm all checked in and found a bench.
Really sorry about your experience, but thanks for sharing and reminder to not trust anyone at the range. |
