How do you mean? I've seen complete 416's being sold here in California. PT had one not too long ago.

nope, you might have seen .22 cal "416" clones by umarex for sale, but not a real hk416. real hk416's have full auto lowers so they cannot be sold here in ca. that 80% has the correct 416 profile and markings but is capable of only semi auto fire.

Oh sure, but why not a 416 upper on a 556 lower?

you'd have to ask someone that has made a 416 clone, but i speculate these reasons: people have been making 416 clones long before the MR556 was produced or even announced or planned for production by HK. so i'd say most of the ones you see around are from the pre-MR556 days. also, even if you did use an MR lower, it would say "MR556A1" on it and not HK416.

Because it wouldn't say HK416 on it.

While I cant bring myself to paint a rilfe and intentionally give it artificial wear marks, I am tempted to intentionally give it a light/crap paint job so it wears rapidly.

Nice stuff in this thread as a whole btw.
Carbines w/ 16in barrels look goofy to me

The Recon Rifle actually costs about three times as much. Go figure!

As for KAC RAS...

You'll see soldiers selling theirs off on ebay. Pretty unusual to see people trying to pass off fakes as real. What they'll says is KAC style...and be upfront about it. So you can tell them apart. Mine is directly from a distributor, but I have purchases soldiers selling theirs on Ebay for friends and family and they were legit.

Will probably run you about $120-$150. Retail would be around $325 last I checked.

I sell Midwest Industried and Troy Industry versions that are close to that price amd work just as well.

the 16" barrel is a better all around choice. there are no positives with the 14" barrel especially since there has to be a longer flash/brake supressor to make the length length.

Not an M-4 profile, but still 14.5":

14.5" Sabre Defense M-5 middy with pinned KX-3
Midwest Industries SS-12 free float
Magpul ACS stock and MBUS sights
Primary Arms Micro Dot sight and QD mount

I built it for my wife, hence the "Mamma's Fire Pig" engraved into the buttstock. She hates it though, so it's pretty much mine. Glad I didn't paint it pink.....

Yep, I know how it is. I have a very similar rifle that ended-up costing me a pretty penny. But for as accurate as it is, I still love shooting the carbine more.

Also, thanks for the RAS info. I'll be keeping an eye out for one.

Same gun as in the second post, but now with KAC M4 RAS and Surefire light. Couple more goodies and it'll be done.
