Default Determining what FFL I bought from, from DOJ paperwork

Someone suggested this go here...

I filed the paperwork to get DOJ to tell me what guns they know about.

It doesn't have the name of the FFL, but it has a code associated with the FFL (ones I know I bought at a specific FFL are all the same).

If I forget what FFL a specific gun came from, is there a way to look it up?

One I know is that ORI/CA0431400 is Farwest Photography.

New DROS copies (2014-current) will have dealer Name/Address
Old DROS copies will Have the CFD # that other FFLS can tell you dealer info.

That ORI number I have no clue what it is.

So those number appear to be ORI (Originating Agency Identification Number) Not FFL info

Here is a list: Just PD agencies. https://www.eff.org/files/2015/11/18...s_04282015.xls

Crap. In that case I'm not sure how to figure out where some of them are from... I wonder if I can somehow get that info from DOJ.

I don't see anything here that would tell me where you got it.

From the guide:
Quote:
14. Enter the date acquired:
If you do not know the precise date, don't worry, just enter your best estimate. For example, if you only know
you acquired it "sometime back in the mid-2000's," enter 01/01/2005. If the firearm was purchased after 2013,
and you enter the wrong date, DOJ will likely require you to resubmit your form with the correct date. For pre2014
longguns, they shouldn't know what the date was, and will have to take your word for it.
So anything not on the DOJ list you have you can take your best guess.
For ones on that list I would put in the date shown and your best guess. If its rejected you will have 30 days to update it. From now until that time I would suggest emailing FFL's you shop at with a list of unknown serial numbers and asking if they can tell you if your firearm went through them.

Most of them I'm pretty sure about (including that one - I remember it was at Digital Instincts), but there are some where I'm not positive. It's too bad they don't put that info on it.

Some of the FFLs are no longer around too.

Have you tried contacting DOJ directly and saying what if I just dont know. Can you put that in the comments field?

I feel like there is a huge legal issue if they refuse to accept that as nothing in the law required you to keep that info.

I'll be applying tonight and seeing what happens. I just spent way too long putting together a list of what I have and where I got it in a google docs sheet.

Thanks for the help. I paid for info from DOJ to make it easier for me, but it seems they don't like to give out all the info.

So that number tells me what jurisdiction it's in, but not what FFL? That at least helps narrow it some, but I'm not positive on whether I PPT'd something at Solar Tactical or Elite Armory, both of which are in Castro Valley, so I guess it doesn't help with that.
