It's time to start experimenting with lapping compound grit to make room for the finish to not need final lapping after finish is applied.

If you fitted this one at 1200 and it tightened up, fit the next one at 600 or 800 grit and it will be a little looser, but tighten up to where you want it to be.
Doing it that way sure beats re-fitting after finish as you leave more of the finish intact.

For sure.

The slide to frame fit should be fine I believe.
The barrel bushing to barrel fit is very tight. The barrel bushing to slide fit is very tight.

Definitely something to consider if the test fire is unsuccessful. I will definitely try to prepare more for the finish, but I thought that ionbond was the least dimensionally significant.

I will bring this one by for you to check out and let me know what you think if you don't mind.

How are the fit on the pins and screws, etc.?

I agree with you on that trigger... It needs to be cerakoted black or anodized.

Overall, with the help of some precision machining and your typical skillful eyes/hands, you've created another beauty...

You're setting the bar high for me! And I need a "Randall" near where I live too.

Use some 1200 grit clover on the bushing to slide.
Don't lap it free, just reduce the tightness.
I can hone the ID of the bushing on the sunnen so you don't have to touch the barrel.

I donít want to hijack this thread accidentally but to answer your question. You canít predict the exact dimensions hard chrome will add so itís best to fit it have it coated then do minor re fitting afterwards for a precise fit. Is it a little more work? Sure, but when a customer is paying for Precision thatís just part of the work.

Sounds good. I would want you to look at it first though. Maybe it is not a "bad" kind of tight. I tend to overthink things.

Agreed, I have very little experience still to even try and pre-fit for a particular finish, because I don't even have experience with all finishes.

Would be good to make some practice pieces that fit into each other, send them out for various finishes and see how much material is added (or what the consistent range is).

My original "tight" fits are starting to loosen up (albeit little), but since accuracy is not affected, I tend to let slide fits slide (no pun intended)...

Slide fit isnít nearly as pertinent to accuracy as a properly fit barrel. And as you said they will loosen over time. Which is why depending on the use of the gun Iíll have a tighter fit barrel than on other guns.

A friend of mine has an vintage Gold Cup that rattled like nobody's business when shaken, but shoots on par with my DW Valor (meaning, very small groups), so I am very well aware of the importance of barrel fit... Though come to think of it, his barrel fit was good but not THAT GOOD, so maybe it was just doused with good 'ol fashion craftsmanship magic.

Carved out a little time today to go to the range. Made it to Angeles to have 30 min before range closure for the night.

Before finishing I test fired the pistol quite a bit. Then I went to blast the parts, and in a rush to send them out I forgot to polish up (smooth out) the barrel ramp after having blasted it. So I sent it to Evolution Armory as is.

Can anyone guess what happened at the range?

I have two guesses...You polished the feed ramp using foraged items that were found in the parking lot or...You had some ftf..

Bonus guess...It ran fine..

FTF is the right guess. Came home, smoothed out the ramp and tested feeding. No more issues. Will try to get out to the range again soon and film the outing.

Thank you. One more video will be made for this one. And I will soon post some more pics of the finish comparing it to other finishes on some of the guns I have.

Here are pics comparing finishes

The other 1911 has a Nitride finish (Melonite by Burlington Engineering)

Looks like the Ionbond is a bit more on the gray side compared to the Melonite-finished 1911 (I believe) below...

Yup. Definitely looks lighter than melonite or Nitride I guess. Very similar to glock slide color
