Default San Diego Range Reviews

I called out American Shooting Center in the roll call thread since someone asked about places to shoot, and I have been asked to clarify.

Here's a link to my yelp review of the place, http://tinyurl.com/a83tunm

Essentially, ASC is very unfriendly to beginning shooters, and, with the exception of a handful of people, has no concept of customer service. No one needs to be yelled at, no one needs to be treated with judgment or like an idiot, and if they want to enforce safety rules, they should make people take a test or instruct them. As it stands, you fill out a little piece of paper and check that you have gun experience and they send you on your way, unless you tell them (like I did) that you are new. Then they **** all over you. They don't seem to care about doing anything about it, since it's been that way for 10+ years.

The only reason I can see to go there for a meetup is the centralized location. There's also no places to sit, so if we have to wait we'll be standing around, and unless we set up something in advance (if they even do that) there's a very high likelihood we'll be line-jumped by range members, who get priority lane assignments, and our wait will be like 2 hours.

P2K is kind of a drive, but I have nothing but good things to say about them. Same with Iron Sights. (I also have Yelp reviews of them, I think). Never shot at discount gun mart.

Haven't been to any ranges in SD beside DGM (The one on Morena) and so far it have been a positive experience. If anybody wants to go shooting at DGM let me know since I have a membership and I can get 2 people in at half price

I have been to American Shooting Center multiple times, and I have NEVER experienced bad/poor customer service. American Shooting Center was the 1st shooting range I EVER went to, and I told them I was a beginner. They walked me through everything, and were EXTREMELY courteous. They helped me choose a gun to rent, they explained to me all the safety rules, and they showed me how to use the handgun I was shooting. I have also gone with a group of friends who were ALL first time shooters. The people at ASC took their time and explained everything step-by-step to my friends

I definitely like Iron Sights, but it is a bit of a drive, and it takes FOREVER to get everyone set up, if you are first time shooters. It also gets really busy and sometimes the wait can be over a few hours.

P2K is great because it has the indoor ranges, the shotgun trap/sporting clay range, and the long distance rifle range. The only complaints I have with P2K is that they stop shooters, at the indoor range, every 30 minutes to an hour and call a cease fire, and the safety test takes a really long time. This wastes a lot of time if the people who are going are first time shooters at P2K. Another great thing about P2K is that it is near Sycuan Casino, and you can go gamble and enjoy their buffet after a day of shooting. New Sycuan club members get a free buffet

The only place that I had experienced poor customer service was at DGM on Moreno. One of the younger guys who worked there had a terrible attitude and snapped at us when we were trying to sign up for range time. Everyone else there is very polite and friendly though.

Man, why do I get all the jerks? :P

Well at least we can all agree that there's no jerks at P2K or Iron Sights, despite the differing opinions on ASC.

Yeah, I really liked the customer service at Iron Sights and P2k.

I guess the first few times I went to ASC, I was lucky. I was slightly hesitant about making that place my first shooting range because of all of the yelp reviews, but I am damn glad I went.

I think that most people who go for their first time are completely ignorant to guns and gun safety. Before I went, I read up on gun safety, and did some research on certain firearms that I wanted to try; therefore, I could understand what they were teaching me. Maybe that helped too.

Customer service is great at p2k, but their "proving target" policy is a joke! That, coupled with the fact that I've been muzzle swept more than a few times due to all the new shooters that go there, makes me avoid it whenever possible. Don't even get me started on what that place looks like when the groupons they offer all the time are about to expire!

ETA: I have nothing against new shooters, but take a few minutes to learn the basics of firearm safety BEFORE you have a loaded gun in your hand!

ASC - This used to be my range of choice 10 years ago when I would go shooting with my family, we always had a positive experience and good customer service. I moved away for several years and now its just not the most convenient location for me. Sad to hear some folks are not having good experiences, hopefully thats not the norm!

DGM (On Morena) - This is where I've been shooting since I moved back and became active, location wise its just more convenient. I went a few times and felt comfortable so I went ahead and signed up for a membership (I believe we can take up to 2 people for $5 each.). I've had completely positive experiences each time. They have 2 ranges both 25 yards I believe, one pistol only and one rifle + pistol (I think its 8 lanes each). It can get rather busy, but I usually head over on Sundays just before or at noon and never had a wait. Usually when I leave though there is quite a queue of people trying to get in. There is an older guy thats usually working the range counter who is always super friendly, jokes around a little bit and was great when I brought 2 first time shooters in giving them a full run down on safety and such. (I think it helped them be comfortable quickly because he was so friendly and approachable.)

I'm out of town for the next few weekends traveling for holidays and such but I'm more than happy to extend my discount to anyone that might want to come down in the new year.

What places have good choices for rentals? I'm wanting to give a subcompact/micro pistol and hoping to try some out. Hate my dad's ppk and thinking I'd rather have a 9mm

Been a member at DGM for a year now and have nothing but Positive things to say about the ranges themselves and the people. Plus the best price for a year membership. They allow you to phone in a reservation up to a week ahead of time up to one hour prior for a lane. Discounts on merchandise for members and always a hello as you enter and a thank you as you are leaving. PLUS they have both pistol and rifle at the Morena store. Member ship is good at both the Morena and Santee locations. Only $150/year for active duty

Edit: Parking is limited on busy days at the Morena location, but the Santee location has a ton and places to sit down and socialize if you do have to wait.

Just my $0.02 but ASC is my least favorite place to shoot. Staff is rude, prices are higher than any other range I have been to and if you don't have a membership, be prepared to wait a long time... and I mean LONG! Regardless if you are next on the list, if a member makes a reservation over the phone, your wait only continues. On the weekend, you can expect to wait over 2 hours.

P2K is great, only because they have a 100 yard range, however the cease fires get old after a while. The best part about P2K is the Calguns outdoor shoots! Been to two of them and it's been an awesome experience to say the least. Getting to know fellow members, fire a huge array of different guns, and the last shoot, some film maker brought out ballistic gel heads and that was a BLAST!!!

My current favorite is the Dulzura Rod and Gun Club, also known as the South Bay Rod and Gun Club. All outdoors (which I prefer), up to 500 yards IIRC, courteous staff, mostly made up of old timers who can shoot the ***** with you for hours on end. They provide spotting scopes so you can see your target in the distance and there is no uniform Cease Fire. The Range Officers usually take notice if everyone is sitting and twiddling their thumbs and will ask if everyone is ready to call the cease fire and switch their targets. It's kind of a drive depending on where you live, however it's only about 15-20 minutes past P2K. I think it's definitely worth the trip and super fun if you make a whole day out of it!

Now what I'm wondering is where in SD can we go to shoot steel? I know BLM Land with your own steel targets, but I'm referring to a range that has the steel targets already set up. Anyone?!

Only having access to handguns and being in La Mesa, DGM has been pretty solid for me. Friendly people and fair prices. My only complaint isn't even a complaint but something that worries me when I shoot there...you don't have to watch a video or take a quiz, but just sign the paper and if you haven't had experience this is where it gets tricky. My first time in there and first time shooting since I was a kid, I was a lil nervous, I asked for a run down on the 1911 I was gonna rent...I am just glad I had an ex service member who knew the ins and outs of the 1911. The guy behind the counter had problems loading the magazine, then had an issue with the various safeties, kinda felt he might of been new. When on the range my buddy gave me a full breakdown and I was good, so the lack of instruction thing Is what I think about when I see New people on the range. Luckily everytime I seem to get there, its experienced shooters, and lessons going on, Or in Santee ill get lane 3 in the private room which is also pretty cool. Friendly place though and that membership looks enticing. Thinking outdoor ranges would be cool to check out too though.

Iron Sights is a great place, but if you don't live in North County, it can be a drive. Clean, friendly, lots for sale, lots of rentals. It can get very busy, especially on the weekends.

After reading SandDiegoDuner's write up, I thought that I should inform everyone that the SDPD Range is for handguns only, no rifle or shotgun....other than that, read on!

For anyone that is not a newb, you must have range experience, the San Diego Police Range is a GREAT place to shoot. It's outdoors, under a canopy roof so bad weather isn't an issue, no filtered air to breathe....and it's a mere $10 for the entire day, no hourly rates at all.

There are 40 positions on the 25 yard line, but there are about 6 that are out of service temporarily. There is an underground tunnel to get to the targets, so no shut downs for scoring or putting up targets.

The target area is in the 'pit', which is below ground, but open to the sky. The targets are all on weighted pulleys, so you simply remember the number above the shooting position on the firing line and put your target on the corresponding pulley, and away you go. No cease fires, no range time outs, nothing but shooting at your pace, all day long for $10.

The one draw back is that it is only 25 yards, no other distance is allowable. I know that some folks just aren't comfortable at the distance.

I believe that the hours are from 09:00 to 15:00 daily except Tuesdays. Never a waiting line as long as I have been going there, which is about 10 years. Most folks that I have seen on any given Saturday morning (when I usually shoot) for at last 5 years has been in the mid-teens....including myself.

They do have memberships available for I think $240 annually, $120 for senior over 62. They have soda machines and a few snacks if needed. Pellet rifle matches on most Sundays too.

Yes, it's called the San Diego Police Revolver Club, but it's open to the public, has always been since I can remember, which is 1974 when I visited there my first time. Oh, and your $10 fee gets you two targets to boot!

DGM Santee - Been there about 30 times this year. No complaints other than it's pistol only. I usually go Saturday morning right when they open and there is no waiting.

ASC - I had a membership there a few years back. A friend of mine worked there part time and was also one of their instructors, and everyone was pretty cool towards me. I purchased several firearms from them as well. My main complaint was it could get really crowded there at times, and there were lots of newbs renting guns which made me nervous.

P2k has too many jokesters mixed in with real shooters laughing about like its an amusement park. I just got fed up with everything there including the drive and strictly go to DiscountGunMart now that they have the rifle range, but these days the DGM is always crowded so Im assuming other people feel the same as I do.

P2K is ok only because they have a 100 yard indoor range and trap. Like Atlantaboi said, lots of people playing and joking around.

DGM- Santee, pretty cool I like it

DGM- Morena, I usually go here the most since it's closest to me. Lots of friendly shooters here, people have offered to let me shoot their guns or shared extra targets. Only thing is that one guy always giving FUD. Wednesday I went and they checked my ammo but also asked to see my gun, I brought my XD 9, and he told me that I was commiting a felony for having a loaded magazine in the same container as the gun (it was not in the magwell) I told him what the PC stated and he just said whatever if you get stopped you're gonna get arrested.

Always wanted to try out the San Diego Police Revolver Club but never made it out there.

I have shot at the following ranges and will post my opinion below: Iron sights, South Bay rod and gun, Escondido fish and game (trap only), Project 2000, American shooting center, and whatever the range used to be called in Escondido just northeast of the Ford dealer (been closed for years).

Iron sights is my favorite range to shoot pistols. I always request to shoot on the pistol side as most of the new shooters end up being sent to the rifle side. The prices are reasonable and they have the best selection of rental guns in SD. They do get busy on Fridays and Saturdays between 6-8pm so get there early if possible.

South Bay rod and gun is where I do all my rifle shooting. I liked this range so much I became a member and so did all my shooting buddies. If you want to join a range you will be hard pressed to find a better one in SD. They do have a single trap range but have limited hours because only a couple of R.S.O.'s are certified to operate that range (my girlfriends father just became an R.O. and found out for me). They have a pistol range, 100 meter range, and the main range (50, 100, 200, & 300 yards). Yes this place is way out of the way but in reality it isn't too much further than P2K. This is not a range for people looking to rent a gun as there are no firearms to rent.

Escondido fish and game is another great range. The down side is the wait to become a member here takes years of waiting. Don't fret though as they have public trap shooting two days a week. I have not shot at their pistol, rifle, or archery ranges but they look nice. The rifle range is limited to 150 yards which is kind of a bummer for me. Anyway, I have shot many rounds of trap here. The R.O.'s have always been friendly and so have the shooters I have encountered. Again this is a gun owner range so skip the drive if you are looking to rent.

P2K is a decent range but there are a couple of things I really can't stand about this place. One their prices are high for the experience. Look at the great deal you get by becoming a member... A couple of bucks off per hour of shooting... I will sum it up and say I have spent more shooting at P2K in one day than a year membership at SBR&G. Yes they have a nice 100 yard indoor rifle range but it gets old having to stop and clear your guns every 30 minutes so you can put another target up. I know they have been talking about finishing the dividing wall between the pistol and rifle side for only like 6-7 years now... Probably longer but my only prior trip there was before they had the store and you paid for trap tickets at a little shack. Ok I like the idea that people renting guns should be tested before handling any firearms but if I bring a mobile armory with me to the range don't you think I know what I am doing and forcing me to go shoot a couple of rounds at 25 yards is just wasting my ammo. Finally the good part of this range... They do have nice trap and 5 stand ranges. The prices aren't as good as EF&G but normally things are run decently with only two trips there that pissed me off enough I just packed my stuff away and left. I still have two tickets for 5 stand that have been in my toolbox for the last 2 years.

American shooting center was ok the two times I actually shot there years ago. The last time I went there to try to shoot was probably 4 years ago and after waiting for 2 hours early Sunday morning I vowed to never attempt to shoot there again. I know quite a few people have had really crappy service there and I have never had a bad experience shopping for guns there. I just don't shop for guns there as the prices are higher than a few other gun shops I frequent. The whole members get lane priority is bullwhip to me. In my opinion it is a good way to turn people away from your range. Oh well there really isn't much else for me to say about them.

I have not shot at discount gun mart but after the poor experiences looking at guns at the Morena location I don't care to bother with the drive to even look for anything there. I will say the workers at the Santee location seem a lot more friendly but there really isn't a large selection of anything in there.

So to summarize... If you are looking to shoot pistols for the first time Iron Sights is worth the drive. If you own guns check out SBR&G. Looking to shoot some trap Escondido fish and game is the place.

i really like p2k but the prices suck. also having to proof your gun to get to the non busy rifle side gets old if you have expensive rounds. and yea lots of jokers in the pistol side. nothing like using a shotgun in there spraying every damn target lol

I went to south bay rod and gun today for the first time, and it was a great range, shooting out to 300 yards, nice firing line, plenty of range staff, overall a great shooting range.

I'll start by saying that I own rifles.. and I have been known to shoot said rifles. So any range that doesn't have a rifle range really doesn't get a lot of my time. I do shoot pistols more than anything else, but I rarely go to the range for just a quick 50 rounds or anything.. I'm usually there for hours and shoot a little bit of everything.

P2K is, in my opinion, the nicest indoor range in SD. As a result, it is also by far the most expensive. But, they keep the place clean and their indoor lanes are well ventilated. The place is friendly and it's set up to make you feel like it's alright to relax and have a nice time. Staff is nice and the trap/5stand setups are a huge plus. As busy as they get, the wait has never really been too long for me. 1.5 hours was the worst and most of the time its around 30-45 minutes.

There are a few things that I don't like though. For one, you can't just shoot on their outdoor range on a nice sunny day. You have to book it or maybe they have certain days where it's open? I'm not sure, but the last time I asked if it was open the answer was simply "no". Next is the price. Instead of "per trip" or whatever else, you pay per hour. It's pretty steep, especially since I have a minimum of 1 person with me always and sometimes 4-6.. the hourly rate will drastically limit my time there. Their membership is really nothing special.. you can definitely save some money if you go there often, but I spend too much time on BLM to have ever bought the membership.

Absolute worst IMO is ASC. They are just downright unprofessional. The last time I was there I walked out after 2 hours+ of watching their staff make rude comments to customers and playing (Yes playing) with guns behind the counter. Their membership policy is a joke, not only because it obviously makes new customers feel unwanted and creates animosity between shooters, but on more than one occasion (And it's not like I go there a lot) I've seen members have to sit there and wait for hours too. So you get a huge backup of people, all unhappy. What a failed system. The way they are setup, they should be members only, not open to Genpub. And because they are located right in the center of SD, they get flooded with the spur of the moment "Hey I'm bored lets go rent a gun" shooters so they don't care to fix it. Not that it should matter, but I'll go ahead and say it.. there was an extremely attractive female working there last time I was there. Like drooling on my guns attractive. That may have been the one plus about the place.

Honorable mention goes to EFG for being a nice range, but the long wait times have stopped me from attempting membership. I will probably end up putting myself on the wait list eventually.. before my one and only "vouch" for membership is gone () - seriously I know almost no one that is actually a member there.

SBRG seems to have a lot of good reviews, but its a hell of a drive for me. I will check it out sometime soon, but I don't see myself going that far out of the way for an outdoor range, since if the weather is good enough to be outside, I'll be on BLM.

Meety Peety -

I urge you to try the SDPD Range as it is outside, no waiting and is $10 for the entire day. Bringing guests is no problem. 40 positions with usually no more than a dozen on the line at any time, at least on a Saturday. I would imagine that the weekdays are even less crowded.

Once again it is handguns only and at 25 yards only.

I've shot at ASC before and never had any problem with the way they treated us. I wasn't new to shooting when I went, so maybe that's it, but I didn't notice anyone else being ill-treated, either.

I've also fired at Discount Gun Mart on Morena several times and at Iron Sights. Never had a problem with any of them.

Now, I do most of my shooting in Yuma either at an indoor range called Spragues, which is OK, or at a free outdoor range called Adair (Numerous ranges at one place). As far as indoor ranges, I like the 3 mentioned in SD better than Spragues except that you can fire rifles in Spragues (I've fired my .300WSM there before).

Discount Gun Mart in Santee is the best pistol range by far in my opinion. Its never too crowded, the staff is nice and leaves you alone, and the pricing is good. I just became a member and I now I go even more. I wish they had a rifle range, but oh well.

P2K's pistol range is the worst I have ever been to. Everytime I go in there, It seems at every lane there 4 or 5 17 year olds shooting 1 gun, and none of them ever know the first thing about safety. Its just a very immature crowd there. Their rifle range is much nicer since there are less idiots.

The range checks every 20 minutes is incredibly annoying as well.

Might check it out, but like I've said before there's really just no need to. BLM is closer, better and cheaper. And I love to just go out for the day and enjoy nature. The only time I go to a "range" is during fire season so maybe I'll check that place out next year.

As for the mention of P2K's 25 yard range being full of kids, you guys do have a point there. It's usually full of seemingly first time shooters. I used to love the cease fires because I was a smoker. Is what it is I guess.

I hated discount gun mart (santee) because the range was small (50 FEET not yards) pistol only and since I only shoot at ranges during fire season, it was hot as F*CK in there. Zero A/C and only a couple cheap orbital fans (those $10 ones from walmart) that barely worked. It was also dark as hell in there. The place was just cheap but for $12 unlimited, guess it gets the job done. It really seems like a place for someone who just wants to dump 50 rounds into paper at 7 yards to make sure they still know how to work their Hd gun. With how much I shoot, this place had almost nothing at all to offer, other than being next door to Jack in the box.

Went to p2k, first time shooting clays and I'm hooked! The girls made it easy to pick up the rotation and show us how the it all works. The range had a bunch of rotc kids running around kinda not acting like rotc...but anyhow. Trap was hella fun!

It's funny how many people shoot at 8-12 feet at DGM, the beauty of the place is no cease-fires, I hate shooting at a slow pace for hours on end at a target 12 ft away. So it gives me the ability to change targets quickly and get in my trigger time to get in and get out.

Gonna try some blm land soon!

Is South Bay rod & gun friendly to use if you have never been to an outdoor range and are going by yourself? I've been tempted to make the drive, after I repair one of my enfield stocks I need to go blow through some pricey 303.

IMHO, yes, the RSOs are friendly and eager to help out a new comer at their range. It's a comfortable environment to go shooting if you don't mind the drive to Dulzura. Check out a vacant spot and then sign-in with your bench number, pay the RSOs for a day's worth and then grab a complimentary first target board beside the RSO's shack and enjoy.

ASC is my go to range for pistol/handgun. If you don't have a membership, the wait is really long on the weekends and can get somewhat long on the weekdays right after 5pm. But, since I go there at 3:30pm, they usually have lanes open to spare. The memberships are pretty pricey, but since I go twice a week, that more than makes up for it. Even without a membership, it's $15 for the whole day. I've never had a problem with the staff.

I've been to P2K a few times and it's a really nice indoor range. Some caveats, though. They charge by the hour and you don't get to use the entire hour, you have to stop every 20 minutes or so, take a 5 minute break and then begin shooting again. This is so the guys at the 100 yard range can pick up their targets. It's very nice, though, the only 100 yard indoor range in San Diego I've been to. The staff is very friendly.

Iron Sights is the one near Oceanside. This is very much like ASC. Long waits during the weekends, but cheap pricing for the entire day. We found a pistol bayonet there and bought it for kicks for our dad. But, this was when I was working in Carlsbad and it took a very short time to get there.

By far my favorite range is Escondido Fish and Game Association. This is an outdoor range. It took me an entire year to get in due to the wait list and I am told that the list is now 3 years long!! Anyone who wants to get in needs to get their applications in like yesterday. Or last year. All new members are now provisional members who need to work a mandatory 6 hours of volunteer work. I like to work it off by doing coaching the Jr Rifle and Jr Pistol matches. They are a lot more fun than range cleanup and plus I get to check out how they run things for when my own kids will compete. I already have my required six hours, but I''m going to continue to coach due to the fun factor and to make sure I get in next year. There's a pistol, archery, tomahawk (!!! what?), shotgun, 100 yard rifle and 150 yard rifle range. There is a campground as well, but you need permission to use it. There are also bathroom facilities, a club house where range business is conducted and other amenities. Weekly and monthly events are run for very low prices. If you can get in to this range, I highly recommend it. The RSOs and board members are very friendly and will answer any questions you might have.

I first shot at Discount on Morena many moons ago and bought my first pistol from them. I have shot and trained at ASC and had pretty good experiences there. I took all of their classes on pistols and shotguns several years ago.

Was a member at Project 2000 for several years when the kids were young. They started in their Youth Shooting program and I coached for them for a while.

I just joined SBRG this year because several of my friends shoot there and are members and RO's. I love shooting on their rifle range. Around Christmas time I spent a whole day there shooting my reloads. Good fun!

If anyone is interested, I got word from a former operator that Academi (Blackwater) is offering a pistol course here in SD. You can look them up on line. I was told that it's defenitely worth the coin, expert training and friendly service.

+1 for San Diego Police Revolver Club Range. Always nice, smooth, laid back and cheap.

And another +1 for ASC being dicks. Think that's why I still go there every now and again, reminds me of home.

I am a member of South Bay Rod and Gun Club. I live in Chula Vista so It is only 17 miles from my house. It's a great place to shoot (no rent; no guns to rent) free first target and 50cents for aditional targets. I just love this place.

That's Mel. Not only is she drop-dead gorgeous but she knows how to handle guns, AND most importantly she's extremely courteous and professional. She'll actually ask you how your session was and talk to you about things. If you want something personal to talk to her about, just bring up guitar playing and ask her what song she's working on...

I might see how some of you guys would feel that ASC is a buncha' jerks. I'm convinced that if I didn't go in there with a Mr. Roger's smile on my face and a glad hand I might feel the same way but Steve, who usually works the range counter and has been there for 5 years, was very helpful to me, even on that fateful day where I walked in with my 'AR and fired a gun for the first time in my life. Honestly, I just talk to Mel and Steve, I don't want the find truth in the Yelp reviews. The membership is steep at $350, not worth it IMO.

Discount Gun Mart in Morena is the other range I've gone too, and I like it a lot. The shop and the range itself is in much better shape than ASC and there's more room for everyone. Their prices are a little better and the 'ammo is more abundant. I enjoy the almost too-cold air conditioning, and the staff has treated me well. Only down-side for me is that they don't allow shot guns, which forces me to go to ASC because they will take any shotgun and its load as long as there's a stock. Their membership is only $250, which is a better deal than ASC IMO.

I have to make a comment on the jerk attitudes of gun store employees, especially range ones: I've seen a lot of Facebook/Instagram clowns in there whose sole purpose is to take pictures, video and act a fool in front of their half-naked giggling bimbo friends, and I don't have a problem with that, but not when death-dealing tools are lying around; guns are a serious matter. Some of the gunners I've overheard are also jerks themselves-guess they're too f**king tacti-cool to have a pleasant demeanor to someone who's just trying to do their jobs. Being in the service/b**ch industry myself, I can see how an employee would develop a bad attitude in response. In any case, I've had nothing but good experiences with ASC and DGM-Morena...

Even though ASC is right around the corner, I will always decline any sort of interaction with that place. Even if you "know what you are doing" they still stare a hole in your back through the window and seem delighted in making ones experience as uncomfortable as possible.
I will gladly take a few more minutes and drive to DGM on Morena blvd...especially now that they have a range for rifles.
If you need a bit of mentoring, you can rent range time at the Glock Store on Murphy Canyon road...those dudes are really gentle.

ASC is the worst shooting range I've ever been to. I refuse to go there anymore. It's the only place I've ever been hit by ricochets. It's the only place I've been swept by newb shooters. It's the only place I've been told by the employees to go to a different range if I didn't like it. It's the only place that the viewing wall is literally riddled with bullet holes. The staff is rude, the wait is stupid, stupid long. I will never go there again for more reasons than these, but this is only the range review.

Discount in Santee is great for a typical zero wait time. I like the electronic targets. But it's a drag that it's handgun only, and only 50ft. Plus the ventilation is crap. So every time I leave there i feel like crud and my throat is hashed up. I really wish they'd improve the ventilation. As the other guy said, they had an oscillating fan on the new side. That is definitely not what should be in an enclosed range. I do like the staff and it is close. If they'd fix the air, I'd be there every weekend.

P2K is usually where I go, but I try to make it there late so there is no waiting. We have waited 2 hours to shoot a round of trap there. Definitely not ideal. Very clean joint, though. I don't believe you get charged during the cease fire, but I could be completely wrong. Regarding the proof targets.....I saw a dude walk in with a 45-70, put the target at about 3m, shoot three shots, and walk out......Interesting.

I really like Iron Sights, but the wait can be a bit long (we always go with a member) and it is a seriously long drive for us out in East County. Nice staff, another clean joint.

Need to try SBRGC and Pala one of these days.Pala is a very, very long drive for me, though.

I've only shot trap and a steel shoot at Esco. Nice place, but another brutal drive. Kind of a good ole boy atmosphere there, but everyone was cool.

Went to P2k today for the first time, I dont think I'll be going back. It's definitely a very nice indoor range and the staff is nice, but it is on the pricier side. I also didn't like the whole cease fire routine, and the fact that when a staff member goes in there (during cease fire) they touch and move your guns. That just reeeeally got under my skin. I'll stick to DGM on morena, and I still need to check out the South bay Rod Gun Club
