Thanks... I think there were other posts in the thread where people added patina to carbon steel knives whether kitchen or traditional. Definitely it is a common practice with traditionals and anything copper or brass like flashlights, knives, coins, etc...

I see wanting to keep a shiny blade shiny though. Whatever you want to do. I've never forced one before AFAIK... well I guess I did let a Mora sit after slicing vegetables, but that steel just wants to turn orange and rust right away. Oh yeah, I have done mustard on at least one with no real results IIRC... not 1095. I think I scrubbed the rust off that Mora and cold blued it.

Definitely the GEC 1095 seems really rust resistant after bluing even with lemon which I am sure is much thinner than a harsher chem bluing. After first "coat" it wasn't turning orange anywhere. Just blackens.

There is a difference between blued steel and raw steel.

Personally I have had it on a shotgun where a damp sling touched the barrel in the safe, and an old revolver that was not taken care of before I got it... once the rust was removed it was fine and hasn't rusted since.

yeah I was experimenting trying to get a non-uniform coating... if you just dip the blade into a coffee cup full of acid or acidic juice it will put a perfectly even dark grey/black coat on the blade. I was trying for more of a camo look.

To each their own for sure. That GEC 21 is the only traditional I have that's forced patina - so I was "going for" one with that pattern I have many other GEC 21's that are brand new and shiny like your knives. A lot of fixed blade USERS are stripped SR-101 steel or SR-77 so they have various light shades of patina but not too much. I think my user BK-15 has darkened. I just had that MORA out in the yard and it is pretty dark now, no rust.

Everybody SHhhhh..... Dont tell this guy about color case hardening, its not uniform!

not to mention all those pretty damascus knives that would be plain looking steel if it wasnt for the acid wash "patina" that brings out the pattern

Pretty nice! Looks like you have some uneven patina in the file work. Hahahah

Kidding bro. Looks like a nice steak knife. I'll most likely use that big Bull Buster for the same thing and other stuff. I'll post more pics if the steak juice changes the camo pattern.

Went on vacation with the wife and kiddos, bought two Strider SMFs online before we took off. The mail call this morning did not suck.

My favorite Presido look... same as the non-auto appearance-wise. Gorgeous. Love those AL scales. Tough knife. Tanto in stainless is great. Congrats.

Not the latest knife purchase. I have so many I never carry I decided to start carrying old ones. I polished these up today.

Large fixed blade I made in New Zealand last year
Buck 102 Woodsman from 1999
Buck 110 Hunter from 2003
Buck 112 Ranger from 2002
Money clip with Mammoth Ivory scrimshaw

I'll carry the Buck 112 Ranger on a hike tomorrow. That 110 feels like a boat anchor its so heavy!

I put a thumb stud on this Buck 560 Titanium knife and carried it on a hike/beach day out at Point Arguello last weekend. I was gifted this knife in 1998 and carried it till around 2004.

It is a fairly rare version of the knife. Apparently, the original version of this knife was a Knife Works exclusive (ZT0200KW) that was supposed to have been bead blasted but apparently later versions were reportedly "only" stone washed (not sure how you'd tell the difference) and after the exclusive run ran out, ZT issued a limited number of these knives as well. Not sure how many of these knives were made but the one I got is #0379.

I am very pleased w/this new addition to my ZT collection. It's #29.

I owned a 0200 for a couple of years. That is a beast of a knife. It reminded me of my old 0301, but with out the assisted opening. Those knives are bomb proof!

I got reall lucky at a cutlery shop up here. I had been wantin Ken Onion "Shun" knives for my kitchen. Beck when they came out, they were too expensive. Nowadays I have the money but they were discontinued. Anyway, a new shop opened up here that sells new and refurbished blades. Lo and behold there are 2 Shuns up on the wall. 8 inch chef and a "Santility" a sort of cut off Santoku. Both have Ken Onion Prototype, Portland OR on the blades. Shop owner says Onion is a silent partner. He breaks out a cutting board and a carrot and the knives go through it like butter. Owner decides they are sharp enough and hones them to an even keener edge.
Best part? $80 for the pair. I ended up adding two more kitchen knives, filet and a reverse paring knife and I bought a new folder as well.
Then the shop throws a new knife block in the deal for free.
What a great day!

Picked up a zt 0220 titanium frame lock. It is a lot bigger and heavier than I anticipated. Real right lock up and needs to break in on the bearing decent. Seems a really high quality so far though.

ZT detents can feel brutal depending on the flipper shape, gimping. They break in after quite a while, but you can also make sure you aren't grinding the lock bar into the detent while gripping it. If you hold it looser and it is easy to get past the detent... you might try a different grip or a different clip (longer clp will shield the bar from your grip).

I've already flipped it a bunch of times (like I do all my knives) and it is flipping smooth and like a champ. Looking at it is almost too nice to carry. Thinking about bringing a cold steel code 4 tanto into the rotation so I can beat it up. The 0220 is a great knife so far but I doubt I'll put it through the rigors I put my 0350 through. Too pretty....

I say this and I'm still planning on getting the 0456 eventually too.

I thought you meant to say "detent" when you said, "needs to break in on the bearing decent"... hahah. Maybe not. Bearings just need a drop of oil or CLP if they are crusty. I had a 0452cf seized up from a salt water tide pool... and oil brought it back almost immediately.

After I got the 0456BW it is really hard to carry anything else. I don't think there has been one other knife that displaced so many other great ones. I have it 90% of the time now. Unexpectedly great knife for me.

I just got a Brian Fellhoelter FRH folder. I've got a few Fellhoelters and am biased as we are friends, but I think his knives are made with attention to detail that is second to none. I've had a limited edition FRH from a small run he did in 2014 for a small group on another forum, but never wanted to carry it as it was a special knife and I didn't want to beat it up, even though I really loved the design. I was just looking for a generic FRH if there is such a thing, to add to my EDC rotation so I could keep my LE version pristine.

I recently put a call out to see if I could find a plain one and ended up scoring this piece. As far as build, it's identical to my LE one, but not marked Usual Suspect. It's a Ti frame lock design with a CF pocketed inlay on the presentation side, so made from my favorite materials. The blade is 154 CM with a two tone finish with a heavy stone wash on the blade bevels and a polished finish on the flats. The chassis is also heavily stone washed Ti. It's a semi Wharncliff grind that's .150 thick and 3.5" long, so a stout blade in a compact chassis that's just over 4" closed. Brian makes his own custom deep carry clips, so it rides low in the pocket. It's not the sexiest looking knife I own, but may be one of the most functional and is built like a small tank! I love it!

I also included a pic of the pair for reference.

No you were right I did mean detent I got cell phone auto corrected. But I just sat at the computer reading and watching videos and flipped it a bunch. It's now stiff but fast once you apply enough pressure. Just as it's beat to be.

I have to say I have never seen a knife as highly regarded as the 0456. I didn't even know they made a black wash version. I prefer the standard version and look forward to testing it out. I cut myself on the 0220 today cleaning off some lint. Poked my pinky just barely and it sliced me pretty good.

I just picked up a ZT 0450CF. I was walking by the knife case and it caught my eye. Once I had it in my hand I had to have one. Got in on ex expertvoice for $100. Awesome knife

I think the worst from a flipper for me was a 0452CF when it was BNIB first few times I flipped it closed right on my thumbtop... never seen the top of a finger bleed that much. You learn pretty quick after one or two. I didn't know how smooth a flipper could be... but I adjust them all to stay where I put them now and then loctite the pivot. I don't think I ever had to redo adjusting a pivot on a ZT yet. I think my 0804CF slams shut still - it is so smooth.

6 month review

I got this for $30 as a promo and if another deal like that happens, I’ll buy 10.

Has a glass breaker, solid blade and good linings on thick scales.

Everything you would want in a knife.

I use it daily from fishing to box cutting and all it needs is a swipe or two on the stone.

Yes, but their scale cuts are deep, that one looks like a snag waiting to happen, but please buy and confirm.

The Sea Dog has just enough, and the locker liner is very robust.

FRN isn't that sticky, and the scallop texture probably slides on pocket like anything else. Certain textures of G10 are sticky in pockets. If anything that flipper on the Sea Dog might grab a keyring Usually its a trade-off. Stuff that grips better in-hand has friction on fabric or denim. Some stuff can be TOO slick... like some ZT's CF versions compared to the G10 versions.

They offer different textures too... the tan one looks good also, but I like OD.

Been meaning to try a TUYAKNIFE Bruiser, but don't carry the OD green Chinese liner lock that I have already (WEKNIFE 617 IIRC).

Can you confirm they have bearings?
