Ya, but he didn't light it... only broke it

Aren't modern matches unable to be lit unless you scratch them on that rough surface crap they put on the box/book? I remember my friend had a box of old matches and we would light them from the wall and our zippers(never tried it on a face, like in a Western movie)......tried it with a newer match and got zip. Yea it was a joke but still....

Used to light them with my thumbnail, but I got tired of having a small piece chip off and get stuck under my nail... burning Ahh.... gotcha.... http://www.mredepot.com/servlet/the-...nywhere/Detail Diamond or "Ohio Blue Tip" are pretty much all I've ever used. Apparently safety matches do require the box. Survival tip for the day: Coat the above "strike anywhere" matches in fingernail polish to waterproof both the chemical and the wood.

Ah I see, still pretty cool though. Ever since I got older, the only types I've seen are the SOB ones so I figured they switched em for safety reasons. Now I have to go out and buy some SAW...I'm tempted to see if I can light one off of a nice 5 o clock shadow like they do in the movies. >_> <_< If I don't return, I probably burned my face.

I asked my dad about that when I was a kid and he said they were using their nail. I must have destroyed thousands of matches before I found out that striking it on your heel only works if you have steel taps

Are we talking taking the tip off every time or just hitting it somewhere along the shaft? The latter is not that impressive. Not saying it's easy, but I'm sure many people could do it. I could probably do it myself at least 50% of the time.

Hit the wooden match midpoint, breaking it. He was attempting to strike it. Skimmed the head of a Q-Tip, dragging cotton away (may have struck the match with a similar shot). Took the head off of the 2nd Q-Tip. 3 shots, 3 "kills", on a target about 1/8" wide. At 20ft? I can't hold the laser steady on a 1" diameter target. Paper target, consistent centered head shots no larger than a 50 cent piece.

I saw that show for the first time tonight and he was impressive... He is a total monatone annoying guy I think however...
So did I ever mention a story my buddy told me that happen on a set of a movie. (Not sure which one) Anyway Seagal was asking "Judo Gene Lebell" something like "hey Gene do you think you could "choke" me out?" Everybody ask Gene to choke him out I guess... So Gene put him in a head lock and Seagal went out, peed his pants and hit the ground... Cool story would have been a funny story to be able to tell first hand... |

I average about a 1.5" group at 7yds, so I wouldn't get consistent hits on a skinny target like a match or Q-tip, but maybe with a bit more practice I could. Mr. Seagal has been shooting much much longer than I have.

I'd be happy just to hit a box of matches everytime at 20 feet with a handgun.

It was a pretty entertaining show just because it was Steven Segal. I have a bit more respect for him now because he seems more legitimate.
I didnt know he could shoot well. Anyways the guy he was training barely passed his test. That is pretty sad. And whats with all the overweight deputies? They were all about 40 pounds overweight.

I used to put strike anywhere matches in the end of my Daisy Spring Air bb gun. When you shot it (without any bb's) the match would fly out with enough velocity to light when the hit the concrete at the right angle. Daisy incendiary rounds. Not something I'd encourage the kids to do in California.
In addition to lighting them one handed with your thumbnail (burns a little when some of the ignited phosphorus sticks under your nail), it was also mandatory to be able to light one on your zipper. Strike anywhere's were in the grocery store last time I looked. I light the BBQ with one.

From what I've read over at a LEO forum ( from someone that works in that same area ), Segal rides around with another officer, and anytime there's any type of possible action, everyone has to clear the way for him to come through. They didn't speak to fondly of him. But he is active on the force. I have yet to see the show, but am interested.

Yeah I don't get what this thread is about. Some guy posts that Seagull can do this and that, with no links, and everyone else in the thread knows what he's referring to.
Links for those of us that don't watch every move the Seagull makes???

This is a funny story I heard from a sheriff deputy about Steven Seagal. At the height of his career, Seagal actually had bodyguards! And being the pr*ck that he is, he started berating one of his own bodyguards so bad that the bodyguard actually knocked him out with one punch. Nor did Seagal press charges since he didn't want anyone to find out he got knocked out at the height of his career. This bodyguard wasn't even some crazy martial artist or special forces. He was just a fit gymnast who did alot of dignitary and celeb protection. I don't know if its true or not but I find it pretty funny when martial arts celebs like him and Van Damme are in the streets and not onscreen, they get knocked out just by one punch.

The show was good, but it does seem like he has to rush in and be in on the action. Even if he isn't the first person to snatch the suspect, he runs in and takes over. I am not sure if he has seniority over the other cops, but he bosses them around a bit. They always pay respect to him, eg. yes sir, no sir. I wonder if they are just that polite there or if Seagul demands it. His work as a cop does make me respect him more. His shooting skills seem to be great. I would have been embarrassed if I was the cop trying to re-qualify to carry. I am not sure about how I would do in that test, but he has had training and his life along with others depends on his skills with his weapon. He didn't make any mention of continued training after the test. It seemed more like he was just worried about passing the test. If it was me, I would be striving to match the skills of Seagal and also have the ability to pass the test with flying colors. Does anyone know if Seagul is pro 2A for the public or if he thinks that only LEOs should have firearms? He talks about getting guns off the street so that they can not be used against the cops or inocent people. He does mention that most of the people he goes after do not own their guns for fun, and they are likely to use them in a bad way. So far in the show, most of the gun encounters have been with shady people. One stop involved a couple guys driving in a car with an opened hard liquor container. They also had a pistol. They had not been drinking and the gun was clean, so Seagul put the pistol in their trunk and told them to keep the mags in the glove box. He then let them go. That brings up another question. If you wanted to transport a partial bottle of expensive liquor to a friends house, say for a party, would it be legal if you had it in the trunk of a car, toolbox, or locked container so that the occupants of the vehicle could not drink while driving? I am guessing that in the case of an RV it would not be an issue since it is considered living quarters.

I must agree -- the first place I hit pre-Katrina was Cafe du Monde. I was so happy running around without shoes and socks that I was seriously looking at real estate in the Garden District. It's a good thing reality kicked in because Katrina made hell out of New Orleans. It's still funny to think of seeing all that white powder on the floor, the tables, the chairs -- it was like being in the middle of a major coke deal! |

Ok, I saw the show last night and am sticking to COPS and America's Most Wanted.
I don't mind him as an actor, but on the street, I have reservations. The show put me to sleep. I like the way he can handle a 1911, but did anyone notice how far he had his joint on the trigger of the Ruger??? Geez, gives pistol shooters a bad name. As a girl, I could outshoot him at 50 meters -- and I'll be moving, not cemented in place. |

In your case, unsealed, it has to be put in the trunk. I noticed that some of the people he's driving around are ranked Colonel and Captain. Is that typical? Seagal is referred to as Chief by that Captain that had to requalify, with a lot of "yes, Sir." Mostly out of respect and I don't believe they're kissing up. One of the guys mentioned that during the bar drunk scene, they forget that's Seagal's a movie star.

I want to try the playing card trick also. There was a show on tv called sharp shooter the other day. It has this trick along with a bunch of other exhibitionist style shots in it. I thought it was pretty cool that they shot a good portion of the show at the range I shoot steel competition at. Mike Raahauge Shooting Enterprise in Norco, California.
I haven't shot a paper target since I started competitive shooting, so I am interested to see how much I have improved.

Probably only shoots twice a year. Once to practice before the test, and then the test itself.

Yeah I had the same feeling when I saw that. After watching the show I think I'll pass from now on. It's like cops but boring.
