Default Need help picking a folding saw.

Looking to shave some pounds from the BOB/INCH bag and want to swap the hatchet for a good folding saw. I don't want to spend a ton of money, but I also don't want junk.Any good recommendations?

I recommend the Kershaw folding saw. I used to use a standard folding saw that you get from gardening/hardware stores but the Kershaw blows those away both in terms of sharpness of the teeth and ease of cutting. I like how it locks like a knife instead of tightening a wingnut. The Kershaw is also much lighter too. Can't remember how much I paid for it but I*know it wasn't much, around 20 dollars perhaps.

I also found this video review of it here... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M3HpcH3Amh8

I have one. It breaks down nicely and all its into that leather case it comes with. doesnt fold though.
"Wyoming Stainless Steel Saw With Wood & Bone Blades The Wyoming Saw comes with wood and bone blades that permits cutting either on the push or pull stroke. Features a stainless steel frame and die cast aluminum handle and a finger guard that prevents bruised knuckles. Can be assembled in seconds. When in the leather case kit weighs just 18 oz. Can also be worn on a belt or carried in a backpack."

These Corona saws are rugged and cut fast, and are pretty affordable. Check Lowes or Amazon for good prices.

I have a Gerber that I've used, along with a machette, to cut miles of trail through dense brush. It works well and is light weight.

It has a deep cutting ability allowing you to cut larger logs, it doesn't tear up the inside of your pack as much, and its easier on the hands (for me at least)

I wonder if Bahco makes the folding saw for Kershaw because they look exactly the same.

The body looks the same the teeth look different though. The bahco cuts on both push and pull very well.

I got a Black & Decker folding saw at Big Lots, this morning for $8.00. It locks open and locks shut.

I just tried it on a dead palm tree limb and it went through it with no problem.

Fiskars has a decent one as well, similar in design to the Kershaw.

Not sure it this it the one, but for under $10 it looks like a good deal.

Looks like it AND you get the shears to boot? Nice. Lifetime warranty as well.

BTW, don't buy the Coleman equivalent. It will let you down after only 1 season of camping.

+1 on the Bahco Laplander

(Bahco makes the Kershaw one as well, FYI Bahco is Snap-On Europe).

The laplander (& Kershaw) blades are replaceable.
