It’s really awesome camping up there but I don’t think I’ll volunteer for blackberry bush clearing duty again. I'll only do it if I'm asked, LOL. Many were small - 24” or less but there were some that were taller than me. Probably shouldn’t have worn shorts for that.
Two more pics. One, oddly enough, of blackberry pie made with the berries we picked and baked in the foldable Coleman camping oven, and one of the picnic table we put together. It’s a picnic table “kit” and you cut your own wood. The cool thing is that it’s all plastic bases so it will never rot. My GF had this thing at work for some reason, never used it, so we donated it to the cause. You can chop the 2x4’s however long you want. We went eight feet. Had ten people eat dinner there last night. One chair at each end and you've got a dozen for Thanksgiving dinner! IMG_4605.jpg IMG_4543.jpg

Looking good. It's nice to see the progress and the good times.
One day I'd like to do the same thing. -g

Today we took the router and sander to the picnic table. No more butt splinters. We had to wait for our friends to bring the tools back. Did I miss anything in OT while I was away?

Forgot the pic of our dinner on the new table. People looking in amazement as the pork was being chopped up. The oil lamps are just so awesome.
We'll be back up there for Labor Day, but I'm not sure if that's a work weekend or a relax weekend. IMG_4603.jpg

Thanks. Can't wait to get back up there in another nine days. Trying to leave early Friday morning to avoid the holiday traffic. Getting home always sucks on Labor Day, but want to get an early start on Friday. Owner is trying to come up later that day, or possibly the next morning.
My Labor Day plan is to drink beer, grill some dead animals...and be well armed in case another mountain lion rolls through at 1:30am. Looking at Blackhawk CQC holsters as I post this. That mountain lion rolled through the property at 1:30am 24 hours before we were there two weeks ago. F that.

BTW, make sure you have the right caliber firearm if you want protection from a mountain lion. A .38 will probably just piss him off. If you are looking at long guns, a 30-30 lever action or shotgun will more than likely do the trick. Of course, this is presupposing you even see the cat before he sneaks up on you and jumps. |

The GF got Friday off so we're definitely headed out early Friday morning. I'm sure we'll hit the normal Fairfield & Vacaville slow downs. Hopefully the traffic isn't too bad. The property owner and his GF are now planning to head up Thursday and will use their wifi hotspot to work from home/cabin. From here on, I will just refer to the property owner as "Robb", because that is his name LOL.

Thanks. I love the van! Already got a thread going here about our Sportsmobile... http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s....php?t=1158225
Lift kit went on in post #104 Last thread update was in June...only small upgrades since then. Gathering components for the solar system right now. I'll update that thread with some new pics after this weekend's camping trip at the cabin.

Robb texted me this afternoon to tell me to bring work gloves. I guess it's going to be a work weekend after all. When we were up there three weeks ago, I probably shouldn't have been shooting my mouth off about how easy it would be to winch large trees up hill with his van, or pull small ones down with the quad winch. Crap.
I informed him that I have one pair in our RV and left a soaking wet pair of leather gloves there in February (see post #132). He says he's still got those...and they've apparently dried out LOL. We're both gonna buy small gloves so our GF's can carry small stuff. We'll see how that goes after they've hit the Prosecco

Curtis does have it pretty good. He didn't help at ALL clearing all the trees and brush from up behind the cabin the past two days. We're all exhausted. He's all like thanks for the pillow Mom...
Many more pics to come when we get home, of course, but we got at least another cord of wood down the hill today and got it cut in to rounds. Looking to fell a couple trees tomorrow perhaps. We'll see. Today was pretty tough. If we do it Robb and I will both have to move our vans, and we may end up blocking the driveway and have to call in sick this week. Not sure we have enough beer for that. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Labor Day Weekend report…
It all started off with a huge bummer. Robb and his GF got up there late Thursday night and realized the quad, that we really needed for tree/brush clearing had a flat. I texted him from the Grass Valley Safeway around 1:00pm on Friday asking if they needed anything. He asked me if I would go pick up his quad wheel at Mike’s Motorcycle Shop, which would be ready in 10 minutes. Sure! After 45 minutes, the shop ‘guy’ let me know that they had popped or pinched three tubes…the only three they had. So, no quad this weekend. 01.jpg Realizing a while back that the new front porch and 10x20 outdoor kitchen weren’t going to happen this year, we got a temporary structure up above the side door of the cabin. 02.jpg There are now two really nice hammocks right at the top of the hill that leads down to the creek. They even have fancy pillows. Nice to 'hang' out there and listen to the creek flowing. 03.jpg We had a little project to finish up the insulation underneath the stairs. It only took us five times dragging this piece of ply in and out, and cutting the insulation. Measure twice, cut five times. 04.3.jpg 04.5.jpg
