Default Los Angeles City (LAPD)

Thought I'd start a new one for people to share their experience with LAPD so as not to clog up the LA County thread.

My brother went to drop off his application during the prescribed times of 8am-4pm M-F, and surprise, there was no one there to accept it. The officer at the front desk said that unit is not organized and confirmed that they have received around 1,000 applications and he anticipates thousands more. He was also adamant that you should hand deliver your application and not mail it in. Hope this info helps those in LAPD's jurisdiction.

I think there is already a running thread for non-LASD Agencies, including LAPD at this link:

I’m aware of that one, of the 88 cities in the County, Sheriffs cover 42 and with over 3 million people in LA City, the other 45 cities would get drowned out (see the LA County thread with almost 400 pages). Also, an update on the LAPD process:

My brother emailed the CCW unit to let them know he couldn’t drop his application off. In the response to his email, the CCW unit said he could have dropped it in a black box on the back wall, but it wasn’t necessary to submit the application until his in person interview. All he (or anyone) needed to do is send an email to ccwprocessing@lapd.online and that puts you in the que to be scheduled for an in person interview.

I was using imgur, which was not working. Edited using a different service and the screenshot is up.

And here is the initial reply, with instructions on where the black box is located and why it is not necessary to drop the application off..

Other than the Black Box on the wall, the instructions are on LAPD's website.

Once the Standard Application is completed as specified above, it can be submitted to LAPD in one of the following ways:

1) In person at the time of the scheduled in-person interview.

2) Drop it off at the below address on Monday to Friday, between 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

3) Mail to:

ATTN: Gun Unit – CCW Coordinator
Los Angeles Police Department
100 West 1st Street, 6th Floor
Los Angeles, CA 90012

This is the part that I think causes confusion. How do you submit your application at the scheduled in-person interview, if you haven't submitted your application to get an interview, haha. Not sure if they were being intentionally vague, but it seems they encourage email, and it will save those applying from taking an unnecessary trip downtown.

Sent an email to ccwprocessing@lapd.online with my name, number, and email. They emailed back confirming I was now on the list, etc. It works.

Just have the application ready for when you actually show up

Sent my email yesterday at 1050am. Got a mostly canned response at 4pm.

"Good afternoon,

It is high recommended that you submit your CCW application and required documentation at the time of your scheduled in-person interview. Your email places you on the list to be contacted to schedule your interview. Mailing in or dropping off your application does not place you any closer on the list.

Respectfully,

The LAPD CCW Unit"

Thanks for the info. When did you finally get on the list if you weren’t allowed to turn in the application?

they told me in the emails they would reach out when they were starting. they clearly were waiting for bonta and newsom's bill to pass which barely failed. took them about a month after that. they (doj, I guess) actually changed the application. where it used ask for good cause reason, it now asks to "provide any additional information that should be considered in evaluating your moral character"

Did you provide any additional moral character information? Has anyone else been putting anything there?

Quick question for those of you who submitted a request to be interviewed via email: could you provide a little example of what you used in the composition of that email? Thanks in advance...

Just got a email response from them:

Quote:
Good afternoon,

We do not accept applications via email. Please visit our LAPD website for how to apply for a CCW license.

Respectfully,

The LAPD CCW Unit
I guess they are NOT accepting email submissions anymore. I will NOT reply since it wi.l be futile. I will just go drop the application off since I am super close.

Applications are submitted in person or by mail. You can request via email to schedule an interview, where you will then submit your application. Alternatively you can drop it off and you will be called for an interview once they get to your application.

I emailed them once on October 15, 2022 asking for an interview for my CCW and I re-sent it on October 18, 2022. The second e-mail was tracked to with a service called "Mail Tracker" to see if they read it, but it doesn't show anyone opened it. The next day, October 19, 2022, I received a phone call from "anonymous" and I picked it up. It was a deputy with the LAPD and scheduled an interview at the LAPD Academy near Dodger Stadium on December 5, 2022 at 8:30 a.m. He told me all the interviews were happening on Mondays, to bring a cashier's check to for $53 made payable to City of Los Angeles, bring a photocopy of my ID, other proof of residency, my application, and livescan.

My buddy emailed them the day after I did and got a canned response saying "you're on the list". I never got that e-mail. Why did I get picked for an interview so quickly? I have no idea

That’s good news!
Everyone’s times are random.

I pick up every phone call now, I have ATT so it’s “Spam Risk” & I pick up all the calls. Still stupid spam.

Waiting for the right call from LAPD.

Good luck!

I'm thinking the same.
I get so many calls from "Spam Likely" "Spam Risk" "Unavailable" "Blocked" "Unrestricted" that I stopped picking up. My line of work requires me to be on the phone, so usually I wait till I see a voicemail.

I just pick up every call now hoping it's to schedule.

However last week I did get an email to confirm my contact information.

I got this email yesterday. My application didn't get attached so I sent it again.

Good afternoon,

I do not see your attachment with your application. Also, I ran your address to make sure you are in LAPD jurisdiction. Is 90026 your zip code because that address with zip code is not coming up in our jurisdication.

Called to follow up and was told I'm on the waiting list. That they processing the people in the 300's, that I was in the 800's, would be called sometime in Dec or Jan.

My brother emailed the CCW unit to let them know he couldn’t drop his application off. In the response to his email, the CCW unit said he could have dropped it in a black box on the back wall, but it wasn’t necessary to submit the application until his in person interview. All he (or anyone) needed to do is send an email to ccwprocessing@lapd.online and that puts you in the que to be scheduled for an in person interview.
i was told to call a number to get on a wait list...
the number is 213 486-5712. the phone will go to message and you are supposed to leave one to get on a wait list.
i called regarding the waitlist, but they were unwilling to even let me know if i was on the list.
