Default Oh snap. The US was behind Stuxnet

Quote:
Mr. Obama decided to accelerate the attacks — begun in the Bush administration and code-named Olympic Games — even after an element of the program accidentally became public in the summer of 2010 because of a programming error that allowed it to escape Iran’s Natanz plant and sent it around the world on the Internet. Computer security experts who began studying the worm, which had been developed by the United States and Israel, gave it a name: Stuxnet.

i am not surprised a bit, in fact i expected it was the U.S. we have a habit of forcing our will on sovereign nations without a declaration of war and wonder why we are hated in most of the world ....

There's a word that comes to mind when reading that the US and Israel were behind stuxnet, that was specifically written to attack Iranian nuclear facilities...

Oh now I remember what the word is

Yup. We're hated because we have food. We're hated because we don't live in a wasteland. We're hated because women can vote. We're hated because of television. We're hated because of bacon. We're hated because of our system of government. We're hated because we're awesome. We're hated because of Vanilla Ice. If someone living in a cave on the side of a mountain can hate us just because we exist, what's one more reason matter?

your brain would explode if the us government ever released all files they have on ops carried out by cia/dia/nsa/(insert any abc agency known and unknown) in countries friendly/neutral/hostile to USA.

easiest way to explain it is if you are into comic books, the character Batman. he has ever piece of information on each member of the justice league, their strengths, weaknesses, mental health, etc. it isn't b/c he is bad, it is just so that one day if anyone goes rogue, he can take them out with least amount of casualties.

it would be silly to think that countries don't do the same to other countries allied or not.

I'm not surprised we were involved, or even ran it for that matter. What I am surprised at is that we're admitting it.

Seriously. WTF?

i didnt say it was good vs bad. i said straight up we are bad. do we also do some good stuff? sure, but not nearly enough to even come close to justifying the evil acts we intentionally cause.

Not how it plays up Obama's involvement, more "Obama the hero" rhetoric IMO. Yawn - Stux was us - yawn - you don't say, oh yeah and the Israelis - surprise.

The fact that they are admitting it is a huge surprise, and mistake, IMO.

This is not a surprise once you understand the powerful and their extent to which they will go to retain control of the world. And, yes, they are the bad guys. Those in power are very very bad. They don't care about you or your safety. They lie for their interests, not yours. Just stop watching TV news and listening to radio news and reading newspapers/magazines (truly a brainwashing campaign), and you will start to see through the obvious ridiculous lies and understand how the world works. In other words, you will wake up.

Election year politics.
Reason why this is coming out.

Interesting to note that development of Stuxnet began in 2007.

It's not the point, this is not the way our country is supposed to operate, whether you agree with it or not. This is why our country is in the ****ter, because people are okay with breaking the rules provided it benefits them or does something they personally agree with. but 50% break the rules to do **** you do like and 50% break the rules doing **** you dont like.

No one is forcing you to stay in a country you clearly hate, nose. Just because we aren't "at war" with Iran doesn't mean we need to let them start a war.

I'm sorry but the disconnect with reality is beyond my minds ability to comprehend.

It's a vicous evil world at times and sitting on the sidelines thinking it won't find it's way here is how we will end up with US cities clicking with radioactivity.

Iran is governed by a tyrannical vicious evil regime obsessed with obtaining nuclear weapons and run by Islamo-facists with bizarre and dangerous supernatural beliefs.

Iran's nuclear ability is a major and growing global concern for security, we can't just wish it away.

Not to mention that Iran has been indirectly responsible for a lot of death and maiming of US forces in Iraq and Afghanistan, and fighting proxy wars with Israel. I'm perfectly OK with setting back their nuclear weapons ambitions - they are not our friends.

So am I, but I don't think it's wise admitting to sabataging a foreign country by using methods that the US Government considers to be akin to an Act of War.

True, a US v Iran conflict is going to happen.

We all know that the real reason the US needed to invade Iraq was to obtain a ground base to launch an invasion into Iran.

It was a covert operation that should have stayed covert, admitting to it just gives more fuel for Iran to use aganist the US, instead of Isreal (who everyone thought was solely, with a hint of US involvement, behind it).

And the timing of it being outed (election year/campaign time) leads me to believe the only reason why it was outed was for re-election politics purposes.

We are now. A cyber attack is an act of war and thanks to the big mouths within the Obama Administration we can't complain if Iranian hackers decide to shut down our power grid - we started the fight and have admitted it publicly. It's an act of betrayal by an administration desperate to hang onto power. The Obama Administration is betraying our allies and intelligence sources as fast as humanly possible while goading the Iranians to attack us.

Screw the cyber attacks. Let's just nuke all the countries building/having nukes.

If you love America, you'd be ok with it. If you are not ok with it, leave this country!

Idealism can be noble, righteous, and romantic. It also can be childlike and naive, such as in this case. We operate in a world of grey ethics.

I guess Bush got tired of mommy and daddy (UN) not taking care of it and decided on a little insurance. Obama then stepped it up a notch.

Nom nom nom....who cares? Don't they have one of our super secret drones? (Trojan horse?)

Isn't Iran on the UN's council of women or human rights? Who's ally are they anyway?

F Iran

Stuxnet and other such things have been something I've been elbow deep in for some time now. Anybody worried about the future of being employed, take note: Start training in industrial computer security RIGHT NOW! All I can say with certainty is that this will become more prevalent, and if a specific house resolution currently being debated passes, ALL utility communications and computer functions will be under ther auspices of DHS, and they must be notified of all attempted intrusions in a specific format within specific timelines. Currently, it is not a requirement that these protocols be followed on a single intrusion attempt, but that will soon change. All US corporations that handle industrial contol systems and communications will be forced to have personnel on hand to both monitor and maintain the security equipment, servers, and software per the federal mandate. In another 5-7 years, there will be a trained, experienced workforce and the ratio of job seekers to available jobs will be less.

Due to what I do for a living, I have more than a passing interest in this, and advised my GF to begin this training in this industrial niche over 2 years ago. She is now well on her way to certifications and training. This is already being done on more than just this specific front. Stuxnet just made the news. Most don't.
