Default How to Join Richmond Rod and Gun Club

Hi all,

I just moved to Berkeley and was wondering how to go about joining the Richmond Rifle and Gun Club? I have been going to San Leandro but I cannot use my M1 Garand or M48 there due to FMJ restrictions. Any comments would be great! Thanks

You're better off going to BLM land. Good luck in getting a table at that place without a long wait.

Any places you can recommend or places for more information?

Not so much anymore.. the cold weather has set in.. and as a member, the first 2 hours of the day are specifically for members..

BLM is quite a drive away.. you'll burn more gas and time rather than just joining the club.. but then.. I'm sorta biased..

Anyone know how much are the membership fees? I recently moved back to East Bay and looking for place to shoot that wonít break the bank.

You may want to consider Yolo Sportsman's Association near Davis, $15 day range fee for non-members. If you visit at least 5 times in a year, get the $50 annual membership, it'll pay for itself in 5 visits as members are only $5 for the day.

The 100yd range is currently undergoing safety renovations, but currently you can shoot at 7, 10, 25, and 50.

Thanks for the heads up. Might have to consider that even with paying a toll fee each visit.

Yep, yolo is probably your best bet, then Linden and Sacramento. Unless you shoot 22lr then United Sportsman in Concord has their Multi Purpose Range open to rimfire.

Linden goes out to 200 and I believe Sacramento goes out to 300.

I highly recommend joining the clubs like Richmond Hot Shots for their matches. Very well run and a great atmosphere. They have matches for almost everyone's interest.

You'll need to take an intro course. Richmond offers this course, but if the class is too full, you can also take it at Yolo.

Nice!

I'm sure you'll have a great time. The vibe at Richmond is great, most of the shooters I've shot with have been awesome. Don't be shy and ask questions, most/all vet shooters are more than happy to help/coach you through stages. Once you take the class, you'll be able to Branch out to do matches at other clubs like Yolo.

Sign up for practiscore because that's how you register and find matches.

Thanks for the advice. I'll keep that in mind. I'm signed up for the intro class on 2/9. Last week I shot at the Richmond range and everyone was really friendly

I'm also taking the intro class at Richmond on 2/9... look forward to seeing you there.

I noticed in some photos that the action bays seem separated by railroad ties. Is this wall multiple ties thick? What prevents rounds from travelling between bays due to a gap/weak spot in the wall?

The walls are there for splatter prevention, not as a backstop.

Targets are placed so the walls are not in the line of fire.

But somebody could shoot in the direction of a wall without breaking the 180, correct?

Anything is possible. Shooting the wall is a DQ.

The walls were reinforced last year with steel plates where there was wear and tear on the ties.

I forgot to specifically seek you all out. I was the guy shooting the CZ with the red grips.

I'd also recommend Linden or Sac Valley for rifles.

Far better than Richmond which IMO is best for their action pistol and 3gun activities. The rifle line is limited and always crowded when I've been there. The public handgun line is pretty primitive but adequate if you just need to shoot a few rounds.

As for joining the club, not sure why that's necessary unless you shoot enough to offset the annual membership fee versus the discount on the shooting fee. You can still participate in all events w/o being a member. I think the annual membership fee was $100/yr when I was looking into it. Don't know what it is now. A staff person who didn't even know me offered to sponsor my membership app if I wanted to join. Didn't join because it's too far away from where I live and I don't shoot there very often any more.
