Default Uhoh... magazine broke

I inherited a 17 round 9mm glock mag that was pinned to 10 from someone who passed away and it looks like something broke and now it allows me to press 11 rounds into it.

How do i get the magazine fixed? I have never taken one apart. Im afraid of getting a felony and am thinking about just shipping it to family in Boise Idaho.

Take it to a gunsmith to have it repaired (premanently modified to 10 rounds). [PC 32425]

That's an automatic felony with a guaranteed sentencing requirement of death by firing squad (operating featureless rifles) in the state of CA.

Or you can just get it fixed.

If there is a small hole (approx 1/8 inch) in the body of the magazine, the mag was most likely pinned via a rivet. You can just pop a new rivet in the hole and be back in business - although there are likely pieces of the old rivet stuck inside the mag, so I would recommend disassembling and cleaning it first.)

If there are no obvious holes in the mag body, there was likely some sort of block that was epoxied to the follower or floorplate, but the epoxy has since failed. You should be able to open the mag and re-epoxy the limiter.

I don't know what the solution is but the first thing you should do when you can squeeze more than 10 rounds into a magazine is announce it all over the internet. (sarcasm)

There are plenty of videos on YouTube on how to disassemble a magazine. Just do a search for the type of gun you have and the words magazine disassembly. really not that hard or complex.

That should be your first step in my opinion.

Good luck with the mag Glock mags are the biggest PIA mags to take apart that I've ever owned.

By the way it's not a felony.

A replacement factory glock 10 round magazine for the g17 is only about 20 bucks at brownells. Try fixing it yourself, or dump it in the trash and get a new one for 20 bucks. Magazines are consumables.

Buying a new magazine will be cheaper and faster than taking it to a gunsmith.

OP ten round Magpul Glock mags go on sale regularly. I bought mine through Primary Arms at about $10 a pop, IIRC. They work fine in my G19, and reliably feed all types of ammo.

Don’t waste your time taking it to an armorer or smith that’ll likely charge you more than what it’s worth to pop a rivet in it. As others have said, mags are consumables and disposables.

I cant understand why you are breaking the law by FORCING more than 10 rounds into the magazine. Clearly YOU, not the magazine, are at fault as you WILLFULLY forced an illegal round into the magazine and forced it to fail.....

This is a clear cut case of magazine abuse!!!

To play a devil's advocate, mere possession of such magazine is legal and the OP didn't manufacture, import, receive, etc. a high capacity magazine at any time.

In theory, which PC would he even be charged with if a DA wanted to force the issue (say, it's an add-on charge to something much more serious)?

Joking aside, any G22/23 10 round magazine will hold more than 10 rounds of 9mm and can hold a fistful of .22 LR. There has been quite a bit of discussion on this topic...
