Yes. You can fit a whole chicken in the combo cooker.

We've checked out the big ones at BassPro and always left without one because of the size. I honestly didn't even notice that this was the 3qt.. I jumped because of the price, and picked up a 6.5" and one of those little 3" too. The 3" isn't good for much other than melting butter, but the 6" would be good for eggs and sausage for 1 or 2. Need the 8" for bacon though.

that one someone else pointed to:
https://www.amazon.com/Lodge-L8DD3-D.../dp/B000LEXR0K Because it has no handles, it is better for the oven (i.e. baking) than the one with long handles. Use baking paper and you won't ever have to wipe it off nor clean it (we don't ever). This paper won't burn in oven, keeps the pan clean like new, pretty much forever. https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_n...rds=oven+paper

I just got the 5qrt delivered... I didn't realize the diameter is identical to the 3.2qrt - I guess reading description would have been a good idea So the only difference is depth - and handles... As it turns out, I'm favoring the smaller (3.2 qrt) primarily for the handle... If the 5qrt was bigger diameter, I might favor it. Even with the 10.25" diameter, both are great choices - and as it turns out, I'll be keeping both sets... So if they are still on sale, I'd recommend both - but if only one was needed or wanted, I'd suggest the 3.2 Seems a good deal at the initial sale prices.

I have two sets of Lodge and love them. My first set was ordered during an Amazon Black Friday deal, 6 pieces set for $75-ish. When the set arrived, one pan was damaged due to poor packing from Amazon. I called Amazon for a replacement but they were out of stock and it was a one-off deal so they were not getting more sets in stock. I called Lodge, they sent me a replacement without any need for proof of purchase, I offered it and to send back the damaged pan. They declined, by the end of the week I had the replacement. Made in America and backed by a great warranty.
There are some new American made cast iron makers, Kent Rollins has reviewed a few on his YouTube channel. But I have not tried them. For cleaning: I have several chain mail scrubbers and found them not to be that effective. I also have a Lodge brush, the handle separated from the brush head, thus I do not recommend. Now the Lodge plastic scrappers have proven to be the best tool so far. Also the Lodge silicone handles are far superior to the Amazon Basics brand. For seasoning; definitely bacon. But any high heat oil will do. For those that are unaware; cooking oils have varying heat resistance. For oil, I use flax seed. |

That's defeating half the reason people use cast iron. It's supposed to be easy care - just wipe it out or quickly rinse it and wipe it out (or let the residual heat evaporate the water). I've been using cast iron for over 50 years and never had a problem. I probably only re-oil once every 2 or 3 years, and that's only if it looks like it's getting a little dry. I learned that from my mother who cooked with cast iron for her lifetime, and she learned it from her mother who cooked with cast iron over her lifetime. The same holds true for wok cooking. Wok's are the Asian equivalent of cast iron. The only pieces that might get oiled every time are the pieces that rarely ever get used and sit in storage for long periods of time.

I guess if you never cook anything fatty in your pan you'd have to re-oil every use.
