Anodizing and Engraving
Can anyone reccomend a finishing company in either Sacramento or Woodland that can typeII anodize a completed 80% raw lower?
I also need to have the engraving completed. Someone told me about a place up in Roseville, but somewhere closer to North Sac/ Woodland would be nice. Any ideas?

+1.
The Dr's got it right! I get all my anodizing done here for all sorts of parts. It's a lot cheaper to have a whole batch done at one time compare to a 1 off part. |

really dumb question, but if you anodize an 80% wouldn't the bare metal show when you go to drill out the trigger area?
Shouldn't you anodize after making it 100%? I recall something to do with the company requiring FFL or something to anodize a firearm, but not sure. You 80% guys just deal with the bare metal after drilling? |

There is a place but it is up in Placerville. I'm drawing a blank on the name, but it has been mentioned in many of the other anodizing threads as there a guy up that way that helps with 80% builds.

So if you buy a raw 80% lower and do the milling. How much prep needs to be done before it can be anodized? I see 80% lowers for sale that still have the machine marks still on them.

I'd like to give Dr. Death a big thank you! If there's anyone out there that needs some help with an 80% build, give him a shout. I now have a completed, anodized lower reciever assembly. I never did get the engraving done, but maybe the next time around. I'm going to go back and talk to Dr. Death about my AR10 build...

The 145$ is a minimum batch charge for the type III mil spec hard anodization. Ive used them before and they do fantastic work. All the prices include the bead blasting as thats a required step for a good finish. I believe he said each batch would do up to 5 lowers. So if you round up a few lowers you can split the 145$
They also do the type II for 90$ a piece if you cant find anyone else to go in with you and want to save some money. If anyone wants to go in on a type III batch late next week to split the cost pm me.

You are correct. Now you have a lower with a bunch ofexposed, raw aluminum. Many will argue whether or not it matters but I personally believe in doing it "right the first time". Some say "egging" of the fcg reciever holes can be an issue without anodizing them but ive yet to see someone with any proof of that actually occuring. 80% raw lower-->engraving-->milling--> hard anodization. Youre good to go, everything is protected and and surface hardened from the ano.
