Whoops...the only picture I could find right now was my 3 shot group of .188". The .200" group was a 5 shot grouping.

Blast from the past, I was looking at my notes from 2010 and according to them this was my pet load with a BR2 under a 168 A-Max but I can't find published data for anything over 45 grains of varget.

I finally got another .308 gun and I am working up a load for it.

IIRC most consider 45gr a "max load"

44.5 gr of Varget works really well behind a 168 gr A-Max.

Remington 700 aac-sd
20" 1in10
40.5 imr 4895
Win brass...win primer
Smk hmk amax 168
2.015 coal
Getting under an inch group on a good day at 200 yrds
@65 degrees
Only about 2400 fps though...around a 5" drop between 100&200 yards. Gonna have to bump up powder to increase velocity but not sure the group will be as tight.

175 gr. SMK HPBT 11.34 grams
OAL = 2.78"
43.5 gr. of Accurate 2495
CCI BR2 primers
LC brass trimmed to 2.00"

Windrunner M12 with a 26" Pac-Nor med. heavy barrel

The load and the rifle give me .25" MOA out to 1k.

I, too, would like to see this group. Just ONE will satisfy my curiosity.

Does anyone have a good load for a GAP-10 in .308? I will be receiving my rifle soon and would like to work up some loads before it gets here. Thanks.

Guys, I have a question regarding my AR10 DMR setup... (if I missed a previous posting with the same question please excuse me)

Does anyone have a similar setup like mine below and which bullet works best for you at 450 to 600 yards?

AR10 semi-auto, 18" 1:10 twist, rifle length gas, Ares Armor barrel (not match)

Newbie reloader here with the following bullets, brass, powder, primer....
Powder: IMR 4046 / Primer: CCI 200's
Bullets I will be testing and requesting your opinion for near optimum (not maximum) powder load.....
168 grn Horny Amax BT
178 grn Horny Amax BT
180 grn Horny Interlock SPBT

200 and/or 220 Sierra MK or Lapua BT (I dont have these but thinking about buying some to test)
....do I need to up the powder to 4839 (is it? forgot the #) on heavier bullets?

Thanks for your input guys!

Powder you have is good stuff, tried and true. You might want to try some 4895 but see how the 4064 treats you if you already have it. If you start going to the 200's and larger you might be loading singles as they probably won't fit in the magazine. But if you're shooting that range, you probably don't need the rapid fire anywise.

I did a search on this thread about the Berger 168 Hybrids but couldn't find anything. Does anyone have any data with those using H4895 or Varget?

Ok I had a question but didn't want to start another thread. Has anyone managed to get a safe load that will stay supersonic at 1,000 yards from a 20" barrel?

Or better yet, one that will do all that and fit in a AR-308 without having to single feed? I've read about some recipes that would meet the criteria but the shooters were all using bolt guns.

I'm looking into the Berger 185 VLD but that sucker is LONG.

If that's not possible what is your favorite loading for shooting at 1,000 from a 20" barrel?

Bolt guns can reliably run higher pressures than gas guns so you are fighting an uphill battle here.
Your best bet will be to shoot at really high elevations where the air is thinner as well as on really warm days while the air is thinner.
Both of those will help you.
Your worst case scenario is to shoot at Sac Valley where you are at around 100' above sea level on a cold day.

Sierra says their TMK 168 will stay supersonic at 1k, but I haven't seen anything to back that up.

I'm shooting 165 SST with H4895 43.5 grains (max load listed) right at 2700 fps 18 inch barrel. No pressure signs on win brass large win primer.

Hey y’all, I’m looking to load for my AR10 (18” 1:10 twist barrel) I bought some of the Sierra MK 168gr BTHP.

Was looking for a load for this, I found AR15 recipe list for powders, but I was wondering what powder y’all get the best groups out of?

I use RL15 and Varget for my semi-auto .308 loads.

Sierra 175 HPBT MK, 42.5gr of Varget loaded into Winchester Match brass, and ignited by CCI #BR2 Large Rifle Benchrest primers. These are my Long range precision loads. Does anyone have a good 308 hunting load for CA? I'm interested in hunting either Boar or Deer.
