*** 2012 CA Service Rifle Team - National Championships at Camp Perry, OH 2012 ***
The service rifle national championships started today in Ohio. I will post the results of our CA shooters in this thread as they become available. Link at: http://clubs.odcmp.com/cgi-bin/repor...i?matchID=7982
Day 1: Presidents Rifle Trophy - 1. Jared Perry........Porterville, CA 2. Ty Cooper..........Sonora, CA..........*** CA Grizzly - former jr. shooter, now with the AMU and living in GA *** 9. Bob Gill.............Visalia, CA 33. Dirk Seely........Chowchilla, CA......*** CA Grizzly - jr. coach *** 38. Chad Kurgan....Twain Harte, CA....*** CA Grizzly - former jr. shooter *** 80. Robert Taylor....Sonora, CA..........*** CA Grizzly - jr. coach *** 90. Lane Ichord.....Waterford, CA.......*** CA Grizzly - jr. shooter *** Mind you, there were 1276 competitors in this match. The highest 100 scores qualify for the Presidents 100, a very prestigious award in rifle shooting. Both Jared and Ty fired perfect 300 scores, then went to a shoot-off, where Jared won the match. He also set a new national record in the process. We have a great service rifle team representing CA. Will have to see how the next four days of individual and team matches unfold. And EVERYONE shoots the same rifle, as below. Except for the knuckleheads with the m1A's and Garands. It is a pure marksmanship event, not an equipment race. Day 2: National Trophy Individual Match 2. Ty Cooper..................Sonora, CA........*** CA Grizzly - former jr. shooter, now with the AMU and living in GA *** 6. Sagen Maddalena.......Groveland, CA.....*** CA Grizzly - jr. shooter *** 9. Jared Perry................Porterville, CA 12. Bob Gill...................Visalia, CA 34. Forrest Greenwood....Ceres, CA..........*** CA Grizzly - jr. shooter *** 38. Robert Taylor............Sonora, CA........*** CA Grizzly - jr. coach *** 62. Chad Kurgan............Twain Harte, CA..*** CA Grizzly - former jr. shooter *** 81. Jim O'Connell............Alameda, CA......*** CA Grizzly - jr. coach *** 92. Morgan Owen...........Sonora, CA........*** CA Grizzly - jr. shooter *** Sagen was the highest scoring civilian and the highest scoring junior for todays match, out of only 960 competitors. We were also 2nd and 3rd for civilian shooters, with Jared and Bob. We likely have the highest contingent of top notch civilian shooters in the nation. Wow!! Day 3: Freedom Fire Junior Team Match 1. CA Grizzlies - Berger 3. CA Grizzlies - Varget 6. CA Grizzlies - CRPA There were 83 teams entered in this event. Once again CA comes out ahead. None of the juniors on the top teams will age out this year, so they should all be back next year to do it again. Day 4: National Trophy Junior Team Match 1. CA Grizzlies The CA team stomped the competition today, while defending their title. They won by almost 100 points over 2nd place. They placed #9 when their scores are compared to the adult teams, including all the military teams. Day 4: National Trophy (civilian) Team Match 2. CA Coalinga Rifle Club The CA adult team had the match won today going back to 600 yards. Two of the shooters fired great scores, while the other four had disappointing scores. Our top two shooters were ranked #1 and #2 out of all the civilian shooters. They ranked #2 and #9 out of all the shooters, including the AMU, USAR, USMC, and USMCR. Tomorrow is the Rattle Battle and the CA teams are expected to lead the field. Last edited by Ahhnother8; 08-02-2012 at 12:31 PM.. |

I think Guido Armanini would think otherwise, being a lifetime member of the Powder/Bullet Flavor of the Month Club.
moot at this point since he legged out this past April |

You can still shoot the Presidents 100 if you are "legged out"

Congrats to the Junior's team captain for earning the high civilian award! It really came down to the 600 yard stage.

Wow, that is some hard holding. For those that are unfamiliar, this is shot at 200 (standing), 300 (rapid prone), and 600 (slow prone) yards - using an iron sighted service rifle with no sighting shots. All shots are for record - same as a leg/EIC match.

All the juniors (and some of the adults) have only had a fixed mag and learned to shoot with a BB. Didn't hold the junior team back any a couple years ago when they beat EVERYONE in the team match.

No, because a nationally recognized rifle team may have a little more political clout than the average Joe GunGuy. Do you think the CA Grizzly shooting team reads this forum? I'm not sure they do, but the bill effects their sport, so just maybe they would have something to say, and some political clout to say it. |

Two members of our California Grizzlies Junior Team, Sagen and Forrest, beat all 82 other teams and set a new NATIONAL RECORD!
From AccurateShooter.com: "Congratulations to the winning Rifle National Trophy Junior Team, Sagen Maddalena and Forrest Greenwood. Competing as Team California Grizzlies Berger, Sagen (left) and Forrest (right) set a new National Record of 968-21X in the two-person match held last week. Sagen also led all competitors, racking up the top individual score of 488-15X. The winning team receives the Freedom’s Fire Trophy. Team Coach was Robert Taylor II and Team Captain was Mike Barranco. Notably, two other California Grizzlies shooters, Lane Ichcord and Wayne Morgan, finished Third Overall with a 964-24X. This proves there are still some great young shooters coming from California, despite the many restrictive laws in the Golden State." The Grizzlies are NorCal juniors who shoot at Sacramento and Coalinga. This is not the first year they've beat 'em all, either. |

Thanks Lane
Thanks for posting this Lane. In the National Trophy Team Match not only did the Grizzlies win they set a new national record of 2880-93X breaking the existing record which they already held.
In NRA Competition this past week the Grizzlies were the highest scoring junior team winning the Fred Edgecomb Trophy again. The second and fourth place junior teams were also California Grizzlies. Many of the juniors and adults did well in the NRA individual matches this past week. Killshot, the Grizzlies are a State wide team, several of the members are from SoCal. Lone_Gunman I would like to see some coverage of the Grizzlies achievements in the mainstream sports media, then it might be easier to point out how SB249 would affect the program to joe average. There's an article about the Grizzlies - a pretty good one. It also shows that they are quite aware of the bullet button problem.

We have a great group of service rifle shooters in CA. Some of the best in the entire country, and we are continuing to get better. If only our .gov will leave us the hell alone. |

I actually scored/spotted for Jared for the 2010 Presidents Hundred match at Perry. I think he came in 3rd that year just behind Sherri Gallagher. He told me he had not been shooting XTC very long at the time.

He came from silhouette, where he did quite well. Always been in CA. We took him to Phoenix a few weeks ago for the AZ Palma State Championship. Kinda got him hooked on long-range now.
