Took My Family To Church Today. It's Been A Long Time.
I grew up in a Christian household. We went to church every Sunday (twice. American church in the morning and Korean church in the afternoon) and I attended bible study and VBS as a child.
Although I didn't live by the values taught by the church, I did learn them. As an adult, I appreciate Christian values taught to me and attribute who I am now to the lessons taught to me long ago. My faith isn't as steadfast as it should be but I'm realizing my children aren't even being given the opportunity to find or reinforce their faith. I've used the excuse that my wife works weekends to not go to church but no more. Every Sunday, myself and three little ones will go to church. They will have the opportunity to learn the values I did and hopefully, those values will adhere to them better than they did to me. Prayers for my kids are appreciated. |

Yeah I feel the same way as the OP about:
"Although I didn't live by the values taught by the church, I did learn them. As an adult, I appreciate Christian values taught to me and attribute who I am now to the lessons taught to me long ago. My faith isn't as steadfast as it should be but I'm realizing my children aren't even being given the opportunity to find or reinforce their faith. " I have been struggling with going to church but maybe this is a sign. So I will take this and run with it and start taking my Family back to Church. Thanks OP

you probably don't realize how much that teaching stuck with you.
most religious rules mirror much of society has already written into law (our society is based on judeo-christian values), but add a critical element (what happens if you don't get caught breaking society's rules?). the religious dogma is superfluous. this is why american atheists' claims of inherent moral guidance is a joke. none of them were raised in a society that was not based on judeo-christian values, so the fact that they may have never attended church means nothing. they follow god's teaching despite whatever they believe or don't believe. |

Welcome back home! If it’s true what they say about heaven, then we should emulate them and worship and thank God every minute of every waking hour til the day we go back to Him, because every pain is a suffering we can experience in union with Jesus and every happiness is a reminder of His Love.
