I'm a POG. Former 19D in a light RSTA unit with a 11B Platoon Sergeant. Never been in a Bradley outside of OSUT, hardly did recon, and have an EIB. But I could never do what the Infantry does! They still love to jest me!

Infantry here, enlisted after graduating college. I was fortunate enough to be in platoons with other like minded guys. We enjoyed all the infantry had to offer but joked a lot about how being an officer in some pog branch was the way to go for a career.

Very true indeed. I was reading the bio of a recently retired General and in his 40 year career he did two years in Germany and a year in South Korea. 37 years CONUS? That made for a great family life.

POG.

Army 35G. Deployed once and we got mortared plenty but never saw anything in person that was scarier than that.

With our drones though we were able to save a lot of grunts on the ground. Worked in every RC in Afghanistan and helped every branch and NATO countries guys, not just US Army.

I never pretend to have been a ground pounder. Respect and admire the guys who did it but I joined the Army to get a security clearance/to open up career prospects, not for ****s, giggles or thrills.

Ironically, my big mouth ended up destroying all those doors after I got out but whatever lol

No. Every MOS is not basic infantry - but toss 'em a rifle and the cooks will get it on! The pogues/pogs... not so much. Supply, Motor-T... most are good to go. Airwing? Forget it!

Once upon a time, many years ago (more than 40), I was a POG, though back then I never heard of the expression.

I guess a 13B Cannon Crewman is a POG. M198, 110mm towed artillery. We load up, unload, dig fox holes, fire, load up & repeat every 12 hours.

I am now 1st Civ Div but I have kept up on P.T. as if I were still on active duty. Per Marine Corps order that Officers and Enlisted men will maintain a trim athletic physique.

Gotta love these "discussions." Generally, the only grunts who seem make an issue about it are on their first enlistment and haven't done ****, therefore feeling the need to act tough.
That being said, I am a Marine POG and on my last Afghanistan deployment alone I would hazard that I spent more time outside the FOB than the majority of grunts do in their single enlistment. Taking daily SAF and rocket attacks is always fun as well.
I have to hand it to grunts for dwell time training. Those poor bastards spend way too much time in the field for my taste.

It is a piece of crap is what it is. I never could understand why people liked it.
I never heard the term woobie before this thread, so I had to look it up.

Quote:
Noun
woobie (plural woobies)
(US, childish) Any object, typically a blanket, garment or stuffed animal that is used simply for its comforting characteristics.
How about that, I guess you do learn something new every day.

I was USAF so I'm automatically a POG.....

I know I know I"m asking to get flamed but I said "what the hell I'll get some funny responses"

Aircraft mechanic deployed to Balad AB/Camp Anaconda in 2004. Been to other places but that by far was my favorite deployment. Taught me the true meaning of comradarie among servicemembers...something the AF lacks nowadays IMHO
