I drove around there yesterday also. signs up, still closed. On my way out there was a Ranger at the end of the road I should of spoke with but decided to mind my own business. by the looks of the place seems like its getting used often.

Does anyone know if there is a specific BLM ranger station one could call to speak with a ranger on the subject?

Does that mean Hodge road in Barstow is closed? Because I've been shooting out there the whole time.

From the map...looks like Barstow falls under Stage I Restriction. So recreational shooting is okay.

And from the map, basically any highly populated area is still under Stage III Restriction: NO recreational shooting.

And the restrictions are ongoing until further notice. I would hope that after the last rain storm that the Stage III areas would get downgraded to Stage II or I soon.

For the official document with map
http://www.blm.gov/style/medialib/bl...ns%20Order.pdf

And for the BLM website where I keep checking for updates...

Open. Please be safe and Keep It Clean!

Hi, again, thank you for contacting us with your question; we do appreciate your desire to locate legal and appropriate places for recreational shooting.
Yes, the Seasonal Fire Prevention Closure Order that was put in place in May has been lifted for Bureau of Land Management (BLM) lands administered by the California Desert District which includes the Needles, Ridgecrest, Barstow, Palm Springs and El Centro Field Offices. This includes BLM public lands in San Bernardino, Inyo, Los Angeles, Kern, Riverside, San Diego and Imperial Counties.
Due to recent wet weather conditions and sufficient firefighting resources, seasonal fire restrictions are no longer necessary. owever there are year round fire restrictions that still remain in effect. or a complete list of those restrictions please visit: http://www.blm.gov/ca/st/en/fo/cdd/fire.html
Thank you for your patience and good sportsmanship. Be careful out there, haul out your trigger trash (and maybe a little more than your own), have fun and be safe on your public lands.
Regards,
Cam D’Angeles

I went out there today. No shooting sign is still up. I was the only one out there which is a nice change from the weekend wild west show out there.

Soft clay/mud everywhere and some of the roads had some mudslides from the rain. My 4wd f150 with rear locker and bfg all terrains handled it no problem but I'd tread cautiously if you go in a 2wd until it dries up a little bit.

I've shot here for years and it was a nice spot until people started talking about it on calguns, similar to the rock quarry spot in banning that got closed down. So I don't give directions to my local shooting spots anymore. If you really want to know where it's at, the information is easily found.

Smart man.

I have a spot that I've been frequenting for the last few years and never had a problem. Very recently it got trashed by some people who must have stumbled upon it. I haven't even told my son about this spot, I either go alone or with my wife, PERIOD.

Have you been to Steele Peak?

Didja happen to notice the yards of oh, say 90% of the inhabitants of that rural area?

I'd rather they didn't treat it like their own back yard!

And no. Don't ask me to post a pic of my own back yard. My son moved out over two years ago. No more kids around the house, and a fence means I don't step out there unless the wife says it's a fire hazard!

I use to take the family there but it has gotten so rediculous with idiots shooting where ever they want and not paying attention to where the rounds are landing. I've shot there for over 20 years and I love it there but rather pay my membership at Wrens Ranch so I can take my family and not worry about getting shot by some Homie lol.

Just went out there with a couple of friends. Had a great time!!!

(There was a lot of old pallets and old lumber and trash near the entrance that I'm going to be prepared to haul away next time I go - if it's still there.)

But, just as we were leaving a gentleman stopped by our trucks and said we were too close to the road (we were about 100yds from the road)...

QUESTION: can anyone clarify how far away from a road you need to be to shoot legally on BLM land???

I live in Perris, what are you implying?

Lol its true, Perris is getto as hell. Wrens Ranch is really surprising given its location/proximity to those people. Great place to shoot!

I only live in Perris because my parents live here and Im trying to keep costs down while I go to college. Id rather be homeless or even go back to the Army than choose to live in Perris! (Im technically in Perris, but Im right on the border of Sun City) and man, its totally different world just going 1 mile north up murrieta lol

I would too but unfortunately the rifle range isn't done yet at Wrens Ranch. In another month or two hopefully it will be ready and then there will be no reason for me to do BLM, but right now I really want to play with/zero my new 308s...

Not hatin' on Perris.

When I've gone to SP I drive through the part of Perris that's west of the 215, the real rural area.

Perris has parts that aren't bad, the May Ranch area as well as the area south of the airport aren't bad. That whole area south of the airport on Goetz road is where I used to go shooting and off roading back in the day.

Hahaha! Yes, been going there for years. Just a figure of speech for the newbies that may be going there.

Sorry to hear about your yard but my yard is like a golf course... clean, manicured and nice to look at.

Please don't post the location on a public forum with 36,000 views and only 300 posts. It is easy enough to find. Heck, looking at a map it is easy to find. As a local (live in the western part of San Jacinto) I am bummed when I frequent Bee Canyon regularly and see the trash people leave there.

You should visit the BLM web page and get all the rules from them. Your going to catch a lot of flack from members on this forum for asking questions that you can get the answers to on the BLM web page. Also get your self a BLM map and find the legal shooting areas, that way when you do find Steele peak you wont owe anyone on this forum any thing just remember to keep it clean and you will get a sense of ownership since you worked hard on finding its location. Maybe you too will feel a little guarded when someone asks " can you give me directions to your shooting spots"?

First place you need to go is the hardware store grab a rake and a box of bags.

Please be safe..take out more than you bring in...teach positive shooting habits to your friends, kids and gkids.

The area will be permanently lost to shooting if it is trashed again i.e. pick up your trash and any that you can pack out. Our non shooting friends would love to see it closed to shooting sports and vehicles-Don't give them traction.

Just got home from a quick shoot at steele peak. Lots of fresh snow on the ground (for southern California) and it was a blast to shoot in the snow for a change. Doubt it will stick around for long, but it's nice while it's here.

I was there Monday just as it was getting dark and saw that that trash is built up again. I guess it's ok as long as you pile it up?? It's funny how grown *** men never learned from their Momma how to clean up after themselves! This is so frustrating because I love to shoot there and people treat it like a place to party and dump their trash. It sucks that we all have to clean up after these pigs but with that said someone has to! I'll be there if there is going to be a clean up.😡
